When Greg Wilson started posting the Time Capsules...I couldn't listen because of speaker problems ---but that's been resolved and I have listened to most of his shows--although not the most recent one yet. I agree it is a good place to compare and contrast the songs of the era. I'm especially curious to hear the Lee Eldred song....:-):-):-)

I like to hear the ones I've never heard of the most!!!

As for The Brothers Johnson & Ohio Players...I guess the Brits were more attuned to the FUNK in disco; certainly these records musta been played in clubs in the USA--but for chart purposes were considered more "radio" tunes; they chart R&B & Pop--but not DISCO--at least not yet.

I love "Happpy Man" --but don't think I've ever heard the other track "Give A Broken Heart A Break", which actually is the bigger hit. But I recall "Happy Man" from back in tha day---maybe from radio in SF??? I instantly knew the tune when I heard it on some Robbie Leslie comp. A short version of "Happy Man" is on a new cd from the UK "Creme de la ...something"....:oops::oops:

I'm listening to Greg Wilson's TIME CAPSULE for June and it occurs to me that this is a good accompaniment for your charts Marky.

Greg offers the British slant to what is going on at the same time ( through one DJ of course ) and it's interesting ... the differences there and here ....
Since Greg is offering up each tune one time only ... many of the current consensus songs have already been presented on his earlier shows ... or will get played on his shows in future months ......

but for now:
... a look at his matching June playlist shows the opportunity to hear these current charters :

12) LIPSTICK Michel Polnareff

I think this is one of the most enjoyable songs from back then that I've only come to know within the last year. Unfortunately ... as I did to most songs back then too ... I've about played it out .
It's a fine spry instrumental ... Crown Heights Affair sounding but with more sweeping violins and a flute leading the way much of the time ( do the hustle ! ) The wailing sax adds the perfect occassional touch .... it's an odd one because it's both funky and pretty and shifts back and forth between the two ...

20) HOWS YOUR LOVE LIFE ; Lee Eldred

--- Sort of an Archie Bell dialogue tune with a gravelly-less James Brown vocal style , with quite entertaining lyrics ..... ( he asks a housewife "How's your love life ? What ? None of my business !! And you ain't gonna tell me ??:lol: ) and has a reference to LADY MARMALADE ...

27) FOXY LADY Crown Heights Affair

--- Hallmark Crown Heights sound ... lively vibe ,endless horns and organ ....and a piano nod to TUBULAR BELLS snuck in here and there ....

34) HAPPY MAN ; Damon Harris & Impact

--- Had a DJ told you this was Eddie Kendricks .... you'd have probably fallen for it

37) (R) IT'S BETTER THAN WALKING OUT - Marlena Shaw

--- How appropriate that this gets saddled with YOUNG HEARTS RUN FREE ... that and the I'M GONNA LET MY HEART DO THE WALKING tunes are advising one attitude .... this one is saying something else . ( How different would my life had been had I paid more attention to this one. ) BTW , like Candi on YHRF , ...Marlena takes command of this song as soon as she opens her mouth . ... A well structured tight tune.

Here them all at :

http://www.samurai.fm/timecapsule/

I think it's also interesting how many of Greg's tune DO NOT chart here such as ... WHO'D SHE COO-- Ohio Players ( right ? )
and especially I'LL BE GOOD TO YOU --- The Bros.Johnson .... I still can't figure that one out ....

*****
Ya ..... this is just a sneaky way to pull my post forward !!!:-P:-P:-P:-P

But I also wanted to comment on Tom Moulton's mention of :

Quote:
The Commodores new LP, ”Hot On The Tracks” (Motown) has a strong cut in ”Let’s Get Started”. It sounds a lot like Kool & The Gang with a Latin feel.
This could've been a fairly big record IMO. Wonderfully LET'S GROOVE Archie Bell meets DANCIN" Crown Heights Affair (... moreso to me than Kool & The Gang )

Hey Motown ! ...you've already figured it out with LOVE HANGOVER ....so this one too needed to go right back to the mixer and a 12" re-edit created 8-). Instead , when left at under four minutes, this groove drops out just as you're ready for it to kick in and amp up.

When Tom Moulton speaks , Motown ... you oughta listen !!! .
All the more so when you consider that in a couple of years you'll decide that this is the one act of yours that you'll think is perfect to be featured in a... DISCO movie !!!:-P

[BACKSTORY]

__________________________________________________ __________

Billboard Notes: Disco Celebrates 2nd Anniversary!!!
________________________________________________

In the July 24, 1976 edition of Billboard, writer Paul Grein writes....

"Two years ago this month, the Hues Corporation's "Rock The Boat" and George McCrae's "Rock Your Baby" were back-to-back No. 1 singles in Billboard, dramatically signaling the start of the disco boom and opening the floodgates for no fewer than four dozen disco tunes that have since become top hits...."

This is followed by a two part article on the contributions two years of disco have made to popular music. I'll print it when we get to that week's charts.

This is the first week in that time period:

July 6, 1974

Billboard Pop Chart #1:
1) ROCK THE BOAT - The Hues Corporation (1 week @ #1; last week #6)
(Gordon Lightfoot & Bo Donaldson & The Heywoods are @ #2 & #3)
4) ROCK YOUR BABY - George McCrae (last week #9)

Disco Action
Record World "National Disco File Top 20" #1: DISCO PARTY (week #5); (This is the chart being used by Joel Whitburn in his book for this time period--you know, the one chart versus 5 or 6, sometimes 7-- chart thang.)

But I've resolved that issue by combining the current 6 Billboard charts into one.

New Rule: from now on there will be a constant 6 charts published each week through the end of August, 1976--when a national chart takes the place of this format. 3 NYC retailers and 3 audience response charts from NYC, LA/San Diego and a guest city will be printed each week.

Billboard charts:

A= Top 15 Audience Response Records in NYC Discos
(#1= “WHERE THE HAPPY PEOPLE GO” LP ( All Cuts)) (9th week) ( single “That’s Where the Happy People Go” charted #1 for 7 consecutive weeks prior to the LP release; so 16 weeks in total)
B= Top 15 Retail Best Sellers: Downstairs Records (NYC)
(#1= HERE WE GO AGAIN / MOVIN’ IN ALL DIRECTIONS) (1st week/ 2nd week)
C= Top 15 Retail Best Sellers: Colony Records (NYC)
(#1= “WHERE THE HAPPY PEOPLE GO” LP (All Cuts)) (9th week) ( single “That’s Where the Happy People Go” charted #1 for 7 consecutive weeks prior to the LP release; so 16 weeks in total)
D= Top 15 Retail Best Sellers: Melody Song Shops (Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island)
(#1= SUMMERTIME) (1st week)
E= Top 15 Audience Response Records in LA/ San Diego Discos:
(#1= CATHEDRALS) (1st week)
F= Special Guest City Chart: Top 15 Audience Response Records in Houston Discos:
(#1 = "WHERE THE HAPPY PEOPLE GO") (1st reported week)

6 charts with 15 items apiece; 15 points for a #1; 1 point for a #15; 90 maximum points. Add them up and voila!....

(Is it just for old disco we live???.....;-) well IS it????)

TRAMMPS CHAMPS FOR 10TH WEEK!!!!!

This week THE TRAMMPS break their own 9 weeks @ #1 record and up it to 10 weeks @ #1!!!!!!

The following quotes appear on the back cover of "Where the Happy People Go" LP....

Quote:
"We at Atlantic are proud to be associated with The Trammps. Not only are they an incredible band, but a creative, warm group of people as well. It is a rare and wonderful phenomenon when every once in a while a truly great artist or group emerges that thrills everyone who hears them. To us, The Trammps are already superstars. We feel that this LP will win over the world to share our pleasure in their music."

Anita Wexler, Atlantic Records
Quote:
"The disco phenomenon is in full swing and everyone seems to be getting on the bandwagon. Several artists have been mainly responsible for the emerging of the disco scene.

The Trammps (considered to be the top disco group) not only helped in popularizing this scene but were instrumental in creating it through the writing, arranging and producing talents of BAKER, HARRIS & YOUNG. The excitement and high energy that is created on a Trammps record is equal to none and cannot be imitated. The spontaneous magic creating happy joyous music wherever they are is their sound and their's alone.

If there is such a thing as the disco underground, The Trammps
are at the top of it and this their first LP for Atlantic shows why The Trammps are legends and why they just don't have fans they have loyal fans.

Tom Moulton
"A Tom Moulton Mix"
TRAMMPS STATS:
A= #1; B= n/c; C= #1; D= #5; E= #7 (DISCO PARTY!!); F= #1

This week, with 65 points, they have their lowest point total since they first reached #1 and have now lost chart B...so they seem vulnerable to toppling from their peak.... :-?;):-?;)

The most likely suspect for takeover is Tavares at #2; with 2 different titles currently charting from their new LP, their point totals have been getting split; this week "Don't Take Away The Music" only gets 3 points and would have tumbled down to #48 or so...so I've bundled it with its sister LP song "Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel" ; you'll see why I did this next week; "Hey I'm THE DECIDER!!!" :-P:-P:-P

TAVARES STATS:
"HEAVEN" : A= #4; B= n/c; C= #3; D= n/c; E= #2; F= #7
"MUSIC": D= #13 (#1 last week on D and #2 on chart B last week!!!)

Entering the Top 10 for the first time this week:

Barrabas @ #3 (#11 last week)
The Whispers @ #6 (debuted @ #31 last week)
Damon Harris & Impact @ #8 (#34 last week)
the very patient Lou Rawls @ #9 (#13 last week):grin::grin:
& People's Choice @ #10. (#19 last week)

Candi Staton charts a 2nd title ("Run To Me") from her just released LP which oddly will help her already charted single "Young Hearts Run Free" ( currently with 12 weeks on the chart; peaking thus far @ #16) get a boost up the charts. For the first time, a record that has dropped off Chart A (Audience Response in NYC Discos), "Young Hearts" will return when bundled with "Run To Me" and move up. Chart A had it at #14, 12, 13, 13 for 4 weeks and is now gone. "Run To Me" gets #15 on A this week; next week, the bundling begins.

"RunTo Me" is a carbon copy of "Young Hearts Run Free"; I wonder if composer/producer Dave Crawford had only a limited time to compose tracks to fill Candi's LP---cuz most of them sound suspiciously like the first hit!!! And I thought Motown had copycat followups to their hits!!!:oops::oops: Whatever, "Run To Me" is still good--just not as wonderful as the original "Young Hearts" which has great lyrics printed on the back of the LP cover and sounded like a breath of fresh air back in 1976--a wonderful throwback to the Southern soul of the Sixties/early Seventies with a disco beat and a wonderful arrangement, topped by Miss Candi Staton's plaintive and wistful vocal warning young hearts to never get hung up like her man and she. ;-)

Next week, we are down to 49 total items; the Top 10 readmits 2 titles and actually debuts another!!! Alll told, 12 records debut, 7 return and 23 dropoff!!! 3 records will have logged over 20 weeks (5 months!!!) on the chart.

Debuts include new stuff from Tavares, MFSB, Bottom Line, & Dr. Buzzard returns. The Commodores, Simon Said, Ronnie Laws, Manhattan Express, Tommy Stewart & Chairmen Of The Board are also among the debutees........oh, and a couple future blockbusters from the family Ritchie and the brothers Gibb!!!:grin::grin:

OK, now let's check to see where the recently charted items rank in the DISC-O-LA FORTUNE 500 ......

[last posted in the 3/26/76 column]

The rarefied air of the important CLASSIC records on the chart this week led me to take a look at their positions on the Disco-o-la Fortune 500 Discotheque Songs of the 70s list compiled by someone named Ed Rothschild (with assistance from Johnny Tripp and Chipper McKearnin), that appears in its entirety in the back of Mel Cheren's book, Keep On Dancin': My Life and the Paradise Garage (2000); (Supposedly, this list came to fruition sometime in the Eighties; I don't know the specifics. The list goes back as early as the late Sixties for a few titles and then culls some from the early Seventies and stops at the end of 1979--no records from the Eighties are included--a few charted in 1980--but were actually released in late 1979)

Previously, the highest ranked record on the Disc-o-la list that has already charted here, was actually in early 1975-- the #5 ranked Gloria Gaynor classic medley HONEY BEE/ NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE/ REACH OUT, I’LL BE THERE.

DISC-O-LA FORTUNE 500 Rankings:

#03) TRY ME, I KNOW WE CAN MAKE IT
#09) LOVE HANGOVER
#10) THAT'S WHERE THE HAPPY PEOPLE GO

#36) TEN PERCENT
#70) TURN THE BEAT AROUND
#81) MORE, MORE, MORE
#85) I'LL GO WHERE YOUR MUSIC TAKES ME

#115) HEAVEN MUST BE MISSING AN ANGEL/ DON'T TAKE AWAY THE MUSIC
#147) CAN WE COME TOGETHER/ DISCO PARTY
#155) TOUCH AND GO
#157) YOU'LL NEVER FIND ANOTHER LOVE LIKE MINE
#160) COULD IT BE MAGIC/ COME WITH ME
#166) NICE AND SLOW
#175) YOUNG HEARTS RUN FREE /RUN TO ME
#196) IT'S BETTER THAN WALKING OUT

#219) TROUBLE-MAKER
#240) TAJ MAHAL
#277) THIS IS IT

#332) CATHEDRALS
#338.) LOWDOWN/ IT'S OVER
#348.) I GET LIFTED

Default Re: 1976 Billboard Disco Compilation Consensus Charts!!!

*****

This week an already very big name in the music industry makes his debut on the disco chart .... thereby becoming an " official " disco artist :8)

32) * PARTY NIGHT - Curtis Mayfield
(Curtom LP) (8 points/ D)

Curtis Mayfield was one of those talents like Isaac Hayes , The Isley Bros. and Norman Whitfield who wrote and produced vast amounts of music and also had the business savvy to create their own labels .... CURTOM being Mayfield’s
…. in fact his label has already charted with two acts ....( anybody :-??) one in 1975 and another already in 1976. ... so while PARTY NIGHT is Mayfield's first personal chart entry ...he has already entered the disco scene thru his other acts .

His biggest disco contribution is still a couple of years away when one of his label’s projects ( that he partially produces ) goes all the way to the very top …. (anybody :???:??)

While Curtis never becomes an ongoing big name under the disco banner … the vault holds two future disco 12” releases by Curtis Mayfield verifying that he was not disinterested in the genre …. deciding to not only work on projects behind the scenes ….but also ( like Ray Martinez ) to release disco bearing his own name .....

PARTY NIGHT .... is a tune I am not (yet :D) familiar with .... But it makes an impressive debut at #32 ... and Tom Moulton seems to favour it …

..... Can anyone elaborate on it ???

BILLBOARD NOTES: DISCO CELEBRATES 2ND ANNIVERSARY!!!!!!

In the July 24, 1976 edition of Billboard, Paul Grein writes....

I'll print it when we get to that week's charts (7/24/76 & 7/31/76)

This is the 2nd week in that time period:

July 13, 1974

Billboard Pop Chart #1:
1) ROCK YOUR BABY - George McCrae ( 1st of 2 weeks @ #1; last week #4)
3) ROCK THE BOAT - The Hues Corporation (1 week @ #1; last week #1)

Disco Action
Record World "National Disco File Top 20" #1: TROUBLE-MAKER (week #1); (This is the chart being used by Joel Whitburn in his book for this time period--you know, the one chart versus 5 or 6, sometimes 7-- chart thang.)

(#1= “WHERE THE HAPPY PEOPLE GO” LP ( All Cuts)) (10th week) ( single “That’s Where the Happy People Go” charted #1 for 7 consecutive weeks prior to the LP release; so 17 weeks in total)
B= Top 15 Retail Best Sellers: Downstairs Records (NYC)
(#1= ONE FOR THE MONEY) (1st week)
C= Top 15 Retail Best Sellers: Colony Records (NYC)
(#1= YOU'LL NEVER FIND ANOTHER LOVE LIKE MINE) (1st week)
D= Top 15 Retail Best Sellers: Melody Song Shops (Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island)
(#1= SUMMERTIME) (2nd week)
E= Top 15 Audience Response Records in LA/ San Diego Discos:
(#1= "SKY- HIGH! LP- (All Cuts)) (1st week)
F= Special Guest City Chart: Top 15 Audience Response Records in Washington, D.C. Discos:
(#1 = I'M GONNA LET MY HEART DO THE WALKING) (2nd reported week in a 4 week span--so probably 4th week)

6 charts with 15 items apiece; 15 points for a #1; 1 point for a #15; 90 maximum points. Add them up and voila!....

What's It All About, Mar-keeey???

(Is it just for old disco we live???.....;-) well IS it????)

It's been a longtime comin'.... but today, at long last, it can be said.

(DRUMROLL PLEASE.....)

NEW #1 CHAMPS: TAVARES TRUMPS TRAMMPS!!!!

Yeah, it only took 11 weeks for The Trammps to be knocked off their pedastal at the top of the chart. For the longest time, I thought this feat would be accomplished by Double Exposure--but that never happened. But now, officially, the Tavares brothers have claimed the top spot with their new LP featuring 2 tracks that have the dancers in major "boogie motion." Both "Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel", the poppier of the 2 hit tracks, & "Don't Take Away The Music", the more R&B Philly-sounding track, along with the entire LP (courtesy of LA's chart)--are crowned the new champs this week.

Ironically, Double Exposure's "Ten Percent" gets a second wind this week, rebounding back up to #2 where it earlier stalled for 4 weeks. But having lost charts B & C--it will be very hard to move up any further and will carry the first runner-up title for 5 weeks. Better than Miss Congeniality, I guess. (THAT would be Miss Candi Staton, spending her 13th week on the chart stuck around @ #34....would you believe me if I said that she will eventually get to the Top 10???? ;-)

"Young hearts run slow(ly)..." I guess. With a walker.

The Trammps fall to #3--losing charts B & E--down, but far from over.

The Whispers are across the board in NYC only moving up 2 places to #4.

Barrabas slips 2 spots down to #5--charting across the board in NYC + D.C.

The Supremes rebound from #11 back up to #6--primarily due to #1 ranking from the D.C. chart.

Damon Harris & Impact move up one space from #8 to #7.

Liquid Pleasure move into the upward phase of their yo-yo-ing chart postions: up-down-up-down-- landing @ #8--their highest ranking yet (#24 last week/ #10 the week before)

and then there's.....

BEE GEES & RITCHIES & BUZZARDS--OH MY!!!!

Several major players, the next crop of "usual suspects" take their place on the chart this week. Will they break any records set by The Trammps??? One of 'em actually will...I'll keep you in suspense, cuz I'm a little tease!!!

Bee Gees (they don't use a "THE" according to my searches) have THE HOTTEST RECORD OF THE MOMENT. Sometimes lighting strikes with a record and it helps if you're already famous--witness Miss Ross' swift ascension to the Top with "Love Hangover"; a similar situation happens here. In their first charted week, the Brothers Gibb already have 4 charts (A & E discos + B & C retailers) giving them a sweet debut @ #9. The only way is UP, baby. :-D:-D:-D

Jacques Morali's studio group The Ritchie Family return to the chart following up their spectacular success with "Brazil" in 1975--charting their new Jukebox track (is this the precursor to "Uptown Festival" and all those Stars on 45 records???--I'm just askin") 8-) They cite various recent disco hits in their "Best Disco In Town" --Gloria Gaynor/ KC/ Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes/ Penny McLean tunes, among others...and then shamlessly plug another tune on their new LP "Romantic Love" ...

For the record, these are the records cited in THE BEST DISCO IN TOWN:
Reach Out, I'll Be There
I Love Music
Bad Luck
TSOP
Fly, Robin, Fly
Brazil ("You got me where you want me")

Love To Love You Baby
That's The Way I Like It
Lady Bump
Express
Lady Marmalade
& Romantic Love!!!!

Lastly, Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band returns to chart C where "Cherchez La Femme" charted 2 weeks ago. Unlike the name recognition afforded the Bee Gees, this group will have to struggle to get more exposure and clubplay/airplay and will take a little longer to move around the country. I see in my crystal ball that San Francisco doesn't start charting this til mid-September (then it debuts at #15!!!). The first time I recall reading about it was in Armistead Maupin's "Tales Of The City" column in the San Francisco Chronicle. I swear that they were dancing to this at Oil Can Harry's disco and that Maupin cited the lyrics, prompting me to begin a search to hear this song. I went looking for that passage in the published book of "Tales"--but there Maupin has lead character Michael Tolliver dance to "Cherchez La Femme" when he wins the Jockey Shorts contest at the End-up and no lyrics are cited...so I thinks things have been changed.

Note the odd rebound of Roberta Kelly's "Trouble-Maker" back up to #12 this week after its freefall to # 40 last week. This is ranked #1 in the country according to Record World!!!!! But it has lost all 3 retailers--so the best it musters here is #12.:oops::oops:

Boz Scaggs adds a NYC retailer chart to his LA disco rankings, moving him up to #15--his best, so far; conversely, Lou Rawls drops from #9 down to #16 this week. Don't give up on Lou, however.

Miss Ross celebrates her 20th week on the chart, but should prepare to bid adieu to the chart. Mary Wilson has already ordered some wilted roses from her local florist to send to Di next week!!! ["So sorry you're off the chart, DIANE-- couldn't happen to a bigger BITCH!!! We're STILL TOP TEN, BABY!!!!] :p

The Glass Family @#36 are charting only in LA with a major ode to pot smoking--just listened to this, I KID YOU NOT---and it could be the theme for "Reefer Madness"!!!!!!!!!!! YIKES!!!!!

Next week, we have 53 items.....with 3 returns, 13 dropoffs and 12 debuts (including 4 records in the Disc-o-la Fortune 500!!!) One record enters the Top 10 and 2 more return for another visit.

Debuts include new stuff from The Emotions, AWB, Lalo Schifrin, Fajardo, Broadway Brass, Bay City Rollers (!!!), Juggy Murray Jones, Stratavarious featuring Lady, James Gilstrap, Magic Disco Machine and a real controversial oddity by a group either way ahead of its time (seminal dub record???) or one of the worst hoaxes perpetrated on those who love to dance, pretentiously named Ja Kki!!!! 8) or ????

I recall someone here (a lurker) once saying, facetiously, I'm sure, that this was the record that killed disco for him. After its release, he never wanted to dance again!!:roll:

Discuss amongst yourselves.

Since there's no Tom Moulton column published this week, I thought I'd bring back a couple things I haven't had time to do recently...

THE COVER LIST

Ninety Nine And A Half (Won't Do) - Wilson Picket peaked this @ #13 R&B; #52 Pop in 1966)
Always There - Instrumental by Ronnie Laws & Pressure peaked @ #45 R&B in late '75 - early '76)
Love Power - The Sandpebbles peaked #14 R&B/#22 Pop in 1967; later covered by Luther Vandross as the second half of "Power Of Love/ Love Power" (#1 R&B/ #4 Pop) in 1991.
Could It Be Magic - Inspired by Chopin's "Prelude In C Minor"; #6 Pop hit for Barry Manilow in 1975)
Summertime - From George Gershwin's 1935 folk opera "Porgy & Bess"; #12 Pop hit for Billie Holiday in 1936; later in 1966-- #7 R&B/ #10 Pop for a funky version by Billy Stewart.
Whispering - (an early example of "sampling"???--brief instrumental passage used in the intro to "Cherchez La Femme" It’s not listed on the original record—but J. Whitburn’s Pop chart book lists the track as “Whispering / Cherchez La Femme/ Se Si Bon”; Did someone sue for credit? #1 hit for Paul Whiteman Orchestra in 1920; used in the soundtrack for "The Great Gatsby"film.)
Night And Day - (this one does get credit on the Dr. Buzzard LP--but I'll be damned if I hear anything more than the title phrase; it's a great Cole Porter classic already charted here by John Davis & the Monster Orchestra earlier in 1976.)
I Get Lifted – H.W. (Casey (KC)/ Finch tune recorded by George McCrae in 1974 (followup to 'Rock Your Baby"); also by KC himself in 1975; then Lattimore in 1977; later by Sweet Life (not to be confused with Sweet Music) in 1983 on West End)

I made a paper copy of this chart when it first came out and I still have here this copy, right after Ed Rothschild it says..

..with assistance from Johnny Tripp and Chipper McKearnin (Maximus, New City, NY)

This sounds to me like this were Djs working and this club ? Maybe someone here from NY State knows.

"Disco-o-La USA" was located on Lenox Drive, Fair Lawn, NJ, according to rest of the notes, I always assumed they were a Juke Box company, but I'm guessing here.

I don’t know exactly when but the Disc-o-la chart had to be released right at the end of '79 because I used it at the time to track down names, labels and the year of many club oldies missing from my collection, I still have here the "want list" I created and submitted to Lee's Music Center, Miami , FL which was a very well known, long gone oldies shop in the city. The owner was a very organized fellow and my list still shows in his handwriting the words "taken on 1/9/80".

edit: Ifound in the vaults a club named Maximus maybe this is the one?

A little Cheryl Lynnin' of the disco chart this week Marky i.e. ... (SHAKE IT UP TONIGHT ) Lots of action .. ! Must be summer ! 8)

So…
I’m picturing strolling up Polk Street to Gramophone and thumbing thru their 12” section that week …..one ….. two ….. OK ….all done !!

I’m de-lighted Tavares is at #1. :-D :-D:-D
