| Why has no one mentioned: "THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH" by Metropolis??? Written by Thor Baldursson & Pete Bellotte. Produced by Tom Moulton & Thor Baldursson. Drums: Keith Forsey Horns: Don Renaldo Keyboards: Thor Baldursson Strings: Munich Philharmonics Recorded at Music Machine Studios in Munich. Vocals by: The Sweethearts (Carla Benson, Evette Benton. Bsarbara Ingram)--Recorded at Sigma Sound in Philadelphia Salsoul meets The Munich Machine!!!!!!! I never understand why people single out "I Love N.Y." and fail to mention this one. Hmmmmm??????

| "Greatest Show" was on Salsoul Classics Vol. 3&4. Even if it's also by Metropolis, "I Love N.Y." is just a more recognizable track. I think it would take someone a little more time to have "GSOE" come to the top of his head. But it was quite a surprise to see the names of Bellotte and Baldrusson, who worked with Donna Summer, on a Salsoul recording!!

| Cheers! Love the track listings folks!! But what always bugs me is that I feel that Salsoul never got the recognition in the UK that it obviously deserves. We have our London commercial radio stations doing shows with club classics and disco music over the weekends - sure you will hear "I Will Survive", "Night Fever", but , you guessed it, you will never hear the REAL music, you will never hear any Salsoul. Utterly scandalous!! I get really fed up with it! The only Salsoul track that I recall ever having any impact on the mainstream pop/disco audience in the UK was "Jingo", whereby it was popular at discos due to a step dance routine that everybody could do. It had nothing to do with the stormimg rhythms and breaks that Candido produced in that record.... If only they knew what they were missing .... Was it the same in other countries? Am I right in thinking that the Salsoul Orch had Top 10 pop success in the US? I would be interested to know ....

| Jazz: No surprise I love your Salsoul compilation. Hard to find one song I don't like. I also am a big Salsoul fan and love just about everything on the label. As for it's lack of respect, as always disco in general is represented by the same commercial garbage we all know, thus potraying the genre as a sideshow and ignoring the great and wonderful music that was made during the era. Salsoul receives it due props from true disco music lovers and those in the know. Easy, Sam "ALL JAM" |

OF COURSE!!!! Salsoul is the "REAL DISCO" label!!! Forget the others!!! I love Salsoul a lot!!! For a incredible coincidence I did take the "Salsoul Orch. Anthology" CD to listen at the office today!!! Delightful, as use to say Hustlebaby. I dont see in any of posts a mention of one my fave Salsoul (the Label) track: "EVERYMAN" by Double Exposure - I know the lyrics are controversial but, I dont mind. What a song, what a vocals, flawless arrangements. FLAWLESS is the word!! Peace _________________ SENHORES DO GROOVE - BRAZIL [ This Message was edited by: Blaxman on 2002-07-10 08:43 ] |

| Jazz Pilgrim-- Salsoul Records wasn't much of a hit-making label machine unlike Casablanca and Polydor; for the most part, it was a label that paid more attention to the club scene, sort of like Prelude and West End. I also think it was also particular with the men BEHIND the records more so than the others. Larry Levan, Tom Moulton... Casablanca may have had Moroder/Bellotte/Morali/Jabara, but Levan and Moulton were committed to the actual club scene as opposed to just mere producing. In the States, we pretty much have the same case as you have in England when it comes to all of these disco retrospectives. SNF, Donna Summer, Bee Gees, Village People, Gloria Gaynor, etc. It's inevitable because they were the ones who made the most impact amongst the public in those days, whether it be through record sales, airplay, TV exposure, etc. That's always the way. I don't mind hearing the "Top 40" disco every now and then, only because the obsession with it has waned here in the past number of years. I don't want to talk about the death of disco on N.Y. radio right now because I guess that's what happens when you have too much of a good thing. I discovered Salsoul music from WKTU and Hot 103/97, going back 10 years or so, when they would do the "classic shows" on Sunday nights. The records they played were the ones you'd hear in the clubs. Occasionally, they'd play a hit disco record or two that broke out of the clubs and spread to radio. That was a great time to hear the classics because the disco "revivial" that was to come--hadn't really "come" yet. It took another year or so for it to really make an impact here in the States--and then spread everywhere else!! I have S.O.'s "Nice and Naasty" LP on vinyl plus "Christmas Jollies" on LP. Not to mention the S.O. Anthology CD and the 2-CD Salsoul Classics. Salsoul will always be one of the best disco labels ever!!
