Beware of Bert Bevans who calls himself a legendary Studio 54 dj and a onetime resident of halls such as Les mouches and Xenon, and get this Paradise Garage too. Turned out he had deejayed at a club called Studio 54, only this place was somewhere in the Bahamas...Cheerful as Bert was and overall nice guy that does not a legendary dj make. His set was mainly ordinary house with a scattering of the most obvious disco anthems thrown in - Bad Girls, relight My fire and a couple of recent re-edits such as the Cher track we've all heard. The massive crowds at the heavily hyped "Studio 54 extravaganza" held in Helsinki ate it all up though. Some arrived stripped down to the kind of satin shorts the Studio waiters used to wear and we got to stare at a couple of trashy low rent local celebs in search of an audience such as a former female porn store clerk who had her boobs removed to become a heavily tattooed bulldyke tv host/ess.

With a grin, Bert readily confessed to be one during our chat. "Yes, I did play studio 54 he said, only not the one in New York...hehe heh! " The man's bio is largely pure fiction.

theres an interview on a rival disco site, just search google for bert bevans... There he tells that he played on private parties at the original 54, but was resident at studio 54 on treasure island. he played on private parties for mick jagger, sylvester, marvin gaye, grace jones and diana ross. I think its quite risky to tell so much names, if he would be a faker. I really think he s absolutely no faker!!

Thanks for the confirmation, Jussi. Remember I asked the question "who the hell is he" a few months ago when this man's name popped up out of nowhere. I also read that interview on the "rival" site hoellihozb mentioned. NOBODY does all that in New York City back at that time and goes "unnoticed" until now. I think the man is a self-promoting fraud. Playing at The Garage when Larry was "too high"? Puh-leeeze. I've seen Larry high and even higher still

The organisers of the Studio 54 party were under the impression what they had coming was the real thing. Being in their very early 20's they were in awe of someone who claimed to have presided over Paradise Garage and to have actually met Larry Levan. When I talked with Bert he laughed at the fact how young and excited the guys were. As for the legendary venues he lists in his bio, Bert clearly had no proper idea of the actual time in history those clubs were operating. He told me in one sentence he hadn't spinned in New York "as such", and in another that he had programmed a lot of reggae and rock there during the disco years, and some funk stuff like James Brown. A lot of rock and reggae in New York discoland circa 1978? Again, I stress Bert was the nicest guy to hang around with, in that laid back British-Jamaican kind of way. He was apparently having a blast being treated a Legendary Disc Jockey, but still, taking advance of excited young party organisers and their audiences was a pretty nasty thing to do if you ask me.

| This so called Bert Bevans most likely subscribes to the P.T.Barnum school of ideaology" a sucker is born every minute".Let's call a spade a spade "Con Artist".Our free enterprise system spawns many of these and unfortunately people get taken advantage of,especially where we tend to attribute God like staus to celebritys.

Greetings All, As an alumnus of the "real deal" Studio in New York (my credentials are beyond reproach), I can say with certainty that the individual in question is unknown to me! People claim to have played at all the legendary NYC clubs all the time... Studio 54 (NOT the Bahamas or Las Vegas), Palladium, The Saint, Flamingo, Sanctuary, Limelight, and Paradise Garage. Don't believe everything you're told. Do the homework and verify the facts. There really aren't that many of us still around, folks. Sad to say, I am the only remaining original Studio 54 DJ; many have died - the rest are retired from the music business. P.S. Feel free to pass along my contact info to anyone looking to book an honest-to-goodness 54 DeeJay... robbie@robbieleslie.com - www.robbieleslie.com

Just to let everyone know, Robbie has media available that was recorded at the actual clubs (mentioned above), back in the day. I have purchased a few sets from him which I very much enjoy and bring back so many memories. He is a pleasure to work with and I recommend these sets to anyone who truly would like to be transported to a time and place that was truly remarkable. Visit the tape club and the playdate link to his Troc gig coming up in April. I am trying like hell to get my bride to agree to go to SF for this. http://www.robbieleslie.com/
