| okay... i'm 17 and a senior in high school. my drama class is putting on a Stuck in the 70s night next week, and for part of the time i'm supposed to be a "character stroller", where i walk around in character and meet people in the audience. for my character i picked the stereotypical "dancing queen", although i know nothing about the disco culture from the 70s or whatever. i do love the music :). i tried to look up 70s lingo on several search engines... i'm really not sure how i'd act for the part. i have a bright reddish orange polyester jumpsuit and really tall platforms, and i think i'm getting my hair done in an afro just for fun. pleeeaase help me :)?

Hello jteaspoon & welcome to our community :) Although this is such short notice.... I have a few suggestions you can do... As far as lingo is concerned.. here's a couple of words for you... GROOVY although the word started in the late sixties... it was still used in the early seventies... The word EXCELLENT was also used (73-77). Like today's lingo... TIGHT, SICK, back then... everything was EXCELLENT.... understand? lol recommended viewing: TV LAND SHOWS----- Welcome Back Kotter, Brady Bunch, Love Boat, Taxi, Sanford & Son. MOVIES------ Saturday Night Fever, Foxy Brown, Crooklyn, Boogie Nights, Thank God, It's Friday & Carwash. DISCO MUSIC ---- Disco Years, Volume's 1 thru 3. hopefully, someone else will see this post.... Good Luck.. :D |

| The platforms, Afro and tracksuit ensemble is fine if you want to appear as an early 70's action movie character such as Pam Grier or Uma Thurman as she comes across in Kill Bill. But should you want to transform yourself into a full blown ab fab Disco Queen ready to step out of the limo in front of Le Palace of Paris or maybe Studio 54 of New York, fashion yourself after the stars of the 1978 film EYES OF LAURA MARS . This movie has The Look, meaning tight turbans, harem pants and spiky heels. no platforms. Remember to shudder at the sight of everyday people around you, have a vial of (fake...) coke ready and speak in french a lot. Off you go, Superstar! |

| I must agree with Jussi.... I recommend that movie also... lots of models in it. The fashion and attitude fit it perfectly... |
