Every Saturday, during the Summer months of July, August and September 2003 (9.30pm – 2.00am), 33/45 Parr Street will host ‘Knowledge3345’, a night of the finest quality pre-House club grooves, presented by the legendary DJ Greg Wilson. The bar operates a members only policy (no admission charge), phone and website details below for those wishing to join. This series of rare appearances are Greg’s first since Manchester’s famous Dry Bar celebrated it’s 10th Anniversary back in November 1999.

It was in the North-West between 1982 and 1984 that Greg Wilson pioneered the highly influential Electro-Funk movement. As a black music specialist at Legend in Manchester and Wigan Pier (and also via his early mixes for Piccadilly Radio) he gained national acclaim for his groundbreaking approach to deejaying. In 1983 he became the first dance music resident at arguably the UK’s most famous club of all, The Hacienda, before ‘retiring’ as a professional DJ in 1984 to concentrate on recording projects.

Before all this Greg had started out as a DJ on Merseyside way back in 1975 securing his first club residency when he was just 15 years old. His playlist will revolve around the tracks he featured during this 75-84 period, covering the 9 years he worked as a professional DJ. This will consist of Soul, Funk, Disco, Jazz-Funk and Electro-Funk (including early New York ‘Garage’ and Old-School Hip Hop releases). There’ll even be the odd 60’s Soul ‘oldies’ spot and, in the original tradition, end of night slowies.

Presented in a laid-back bar atmosphere rather than at a full-on club night, ‘Knowledge3345’ is aimed at groove aficionados, plus anyone who’s interested in learning more about the type of tunes that shaped the course of club culture.

All in all an education in dance evolution.
