Default Cars 'N Stars

Like most of you know I drive Mercedes but I was wondering what other stars use as daily transport. This is a beautiful site about their moving habits.

BTW, Seal, Demi Moore, Aahnuld Schwarzenegger and Videoskooter, they all drive a Mercedes G Wagon (So I'm in very good company)

Oh but I have a bike too, love to ride it, almost daily. For short distances that is. Not the kind of expeditions Bernie is doing with his 2-wheelers. I have a very simple one:

I didn't know Bernie was a bike freak, but please explain the "fixed gear" thing to me as I don't really get it :-? English language bicycle terminology isn't my strong side
I needed a bike that was as reliable as possible and didn't need all the the attention both mountain bike and racing bikes usually require. I went for the danish made "Avenue Broadway" after trying a few others. It's in a mid-price range (around $1000) and very suited for the danish climate (meaning 24 hour rain  ) since practically no parts on it will ever get rusty.
I'm not a bicycle freak and I really do have no knowledge about all the tech stuff at all. However, i've had this one for 2 years and it really works like a charm.

Oh, sorry for spoiling the original intention of the thread Videoskooter

K-Bee,
Fixed gear is a term for bicycles that only have one gear. They do not have a freewheel mechanism (they are fixed) so the pedals are always turning when the bike is moving-forwards or back (like a kid's Big Wheel toy). It's used a lot here in the US by bike messengers and road racers in training because it forces you to concentrate on proper pedaling technique and builds great strength. You can slow it down by slowing down your cadence.

I've done lots of bicycling since I was a kid and also was a bike messenger in New York City after high school. Love road bikes and have done some long distance touring, but I've never gotten into mountain biking. Here's a photo of me while riding through Indiana with a Cannondale with all my touring gear.

Oh fixed gear is one gear only then.
Not for me I must admit. My bike has 7 and freewheling mechanism too (it's not visable on the pivture obviously)

Glad to hear that not all americans are stuck in their cars...that's the general impression we get over here

Bernie, you having many sexy legs! Hi-Five!

Speaking about bikes, ehmmm, exclusive cars for the stars. They seem to be in love with Rolls, Bentley, Mercedes, BMW, Cadillac but yesterday I was talking with some friends about this one:

The Volkswagen Phaeton:

This was actually conceived to be placed in the luxury market and even especially for the U.S.. Do you think it will achieve its goals???

For almost the same price I would choose this:

As much as I love cruisin' in my Trans-Am, this is still my all-time favorite means to get from A to B minus the itchy feet. 8)

Well, Volkswagen answered my question themselves. They will be getting the Phaeton off the American market. So, they must have failed. BTW Europeans also didn't seem to like it very much.

As a Lexus is in fact an improven Toyota, the Phaeton still is sold under the name Volkswagen. IMO that was a big misstake. They should have invented another brandname for it.

BTW, still having more and more wet dreams abou this honey:

How reliable is your Mercedes video? They have had some bad reports here recently. My Smart Roadster has a Merc engine & in the 12 months I've had it it has been completely trouble-free. :P

San, the G (leased) is an older model and does not have all the cyber-wizardry that Merc is putting in their vehicles now. It has been very reliable for 4 years now.

The SL that I drive is in fact a Brabus (owned). Just like AMG this is a tuned and spiced up car. I had no problems with it so far.

Nicole drives a new SLK (leased) for 4 months now and it is also free of trouble.

Now, Mercedes does have an image problem these days. I read that the new S-class was tested a few weeks ago and that after 2 minutes the board-computer indicated a major malfunction and the driver had to contact the nearest dealer. This is untolerable for a car that pricey and a stupidity to hand that car over to a test-driver from a big car-magazine.

A friend of mine drives the new BMW 6. He also had enormous electronical problems which are not solved until now. The I-drive is mainly the cause for this.

I think that putting all that PC-stuff and humbug in a car makes them weaker.

I like the CLS very much and I want to buy it but the reports indeed make me think about it and I'm waiting till next spring to decide and meanwhile I follow the reports on reliability. In that case the G and the SLK will go. Two cars is sufficient and expensive enough. But only Nicole tested it, I didn't yet and I'm a bit afraid that the car is too small for me. I'm a tall guy and I don't want to touch the roof every time the car takes a bump in the road

BTW, keep that Smart Roadstar in good condition. They stopped producing it and it's an instant classic

Johan,

I'm glad that Nicole's SLK has been trouble-free. Shahla has the V6 SLK and it has been in once for the top, which misaligned or something (started making crunching noises when she tried to put it down) and another time for some minor electrical issue. Luckily, it's still under warranty. Even so it's a great car and I wish I could afford one.

Bernie, you can always sue Madonna! :D

Or if Shahla keeps having problems with her SLK, try to persuade her to buy the Brabus SLK. 100% trouble-free, I can guarantee that.

Or, take Shahla to a nice restaurant, her favourite food and when the love is spreading all over the world you say: "Honey, did you know that Brabus also tunes the Maybach, the über-Mercedes?"

I have my SL 2 years now and it is a symbol of reliability.

OK so Johan. For the boy in us, have you raced any cars?
I've had my share. :D
Let's see, the T/A smoked a 350z and he decided just stay behind me. Also hurt some guys feelings in a Porsche 9/11 when I overtook him, and the Mustangs give up too easily
Never raced my siblings, Camaros or 'Vettes. The Vettes should take me but other T/A owners tell me it all depends on the driver.
