Those were the days, Bernie. Power on the road.

BTW, you saw the Bumpercartrack already in the other topic. Here you can see the complete track, folded in (without the cars and the light- and soundequipment) and ready for departure. The truck is Mercedes of course.

And this is a pic of my (real) second car: Mercedes G Wagon. Not so flashy as the Brabus but tough like Vandamme on wheels.

THe G Wagon must be one of the ugliest set of wheels that has ever been made. I'm amazed that people actually drive them, when any other 4X4 would look better and moreover, drive better.

Quinny, I hate to say this but this one never ever lets you down! It's stronger and more comfortable than Land- and Range Rover, which are mainly driven by royalty like the Beckhams of this planet.

I use this one for heavy duty and shopping and you are right, it's not the most beautiful 4x4 (in fact it was conceived for the German army) but it has space, power and reliability beyond imagination. And in mud and on snow it's unbeatable (proven by many tests and myself). I had the chance to switch it for a Porsche Cayenne (it's a leased car) and I stayed with the Krautmobile.

Porsche Cayenne.....the other most ugly and completely ridiculous 4X4 ever conceived. What were the guys at Porsche thinking about, when they gave the green light to that project.
Then there's the Hummer.

Quinny, you've just insulted the German gods :o

Suppose if you would buy a 4x4, what would be your pick? I guess it would be one of those Japanese fakemobiles that start crying when their designerwheels touch the dirt :o

Or would this be the ultimate Quinnymobile????

Johan,
You don't see too many of those "G" class SUVs around the US, but the new "R" class looks very sweet. I think it will sell very well and great for those who don't need the "M" class or an SUV. What's your take?

Bernie, it's a beautiful car and so is the new ML and will be the new G that will be available in 2006 (they also continue to make my model so that says it's still popular), but... As I was explaining to the mighty Quinny. There's a difference in perception here. Quinny says that my G is ugly but this Merc was never intended to be gracious. It was build for the army and the car is still on the market since it's première in 1978.

I drive this one for professional reasons. It's a job-car for me. Strong and also really comfortable (you might be surprised). If I would buy or lease a SUV for its beauty or its cool, indeed, I would choose another one. So will the Americans I think. That's why Mercedes is releasing the ML and R. This is aimed at, sorry for that, people who don't really need a 4x4 but just wanna impress. Like the Cadillac Escalade, awesome car but you can not really go off road with it. I also like the Ford F150 but that is too expensive (fuel) and too big to drive and park in Belgian cities.

Bernie, if you would go to a garage right now and you would have a blank cheque, what would you buy? Guess? I think you are a Lexus-guy?????

Hmmm, if you had asked me when I was younger I would have said a sports car like the Ferrari Testarosa or Porsche Boxster. Today, I'd say it has to be a touring sedan. Perhaps an "S" class. For something sporty yet classy, I'd choose the beautiful D9 Aston Martin. I'm pretty reasonable :D

 Very reasonable!

I think I'm gonna buy the Merc CLS next spring and sell the Porsche 997 which is great fun but not very usable for me and the Brabus is faster. That one stays with me :D

But I do like this one and Nicole has already tested it and approved We're both gettin older, I am 42 now and she will be 29 soon, so it's time to grow up :o

Now that CLS is very nice. Okay, I'll take the CL-600 coupe as a spare!

I'll give my Camry to Quinny, but I think he won't like that one either

Guess you guys realise I'm not into cars...at all. Didn't learn to drive until I was 33. Have had a love-hate relationship with 'em since then.

As if a standard Hummer isn't BIG enough, or ugly enough.

I can imagine you may need one from time to time, but I thought Show people had tractor units to pull vehicles out of snow, mud and such like?

Why would I but a Japanese 4X4 when the best ones (and it's been proven many a time) have Land Rover or Range Rover as part of their badge. I just think that the vast majority of 4X4s in the U.K. are driven by morons who are completely out to lunch. There's quite a backlash going on over here against those people who drive 4X4s, especially those who drive them on the school run.

It's a sad, marketing-driven world we live in.

Quinny, I agree on many things with you here. First Japanese 4x4 are vastly over-rated (Ok, the Toyota Landcruiser does the job fairly good) and yèèèèèèèèèèèèèèz (think Little Britain-the series here  ) a whole lotta people buy a 4x4 for driving their kids to school and block all the roads there.

But Range Rover (=BMW) is not superior to the Merc G, far from that. Only the Land Rover can be a contestant but that one doesn't offer the same luxury).

And I know what you mean by the tractors but I don't have one. That's not a custom in Belgium, mainly because when you have a 4x4 you can use it for towing and driving.
