Look what I found at the same place Johan got his Stutz pic... A 1957 Caddy Eldorado just like my dad had in the '60s although his was a deep wine red.

The Stutz is American, Evel Knievel had one (it can be seen in the movie "Viva Knievel").

It's a beauty and to me, certainly the 1979 model is very Disco. BTW Isaac hayes had one too!

Bernie, that's a beautiful Cadillac!

This was my first car, I got it from my dad in 1981, he bought it in 1976 (mine was black BTW)
He then switched to BMW's 7-series

Johan,
I remember those big cars well. The Olds Cutlass, Buick Regal, Chevy Monte Carlo and Pontiac Gran Prix all shared the same design/chasis. You had a big old GM car in that little country of Belgium? :D

Were/are American cars popular in Europe? I ask because I went to London for two weeks and only saw one or two American cars the whole time.

Bernie, American cars were relatively popular here till the 80's. Then they dissapeared on our roads. Cadillac is now trying to conquer the European market again but don't forget that we are usually Diesel-drivers and a big car on normal petrol doen't sell here.

The only manufacturer that is popular here is Chrysler. You see many Pronto Cruisers on Belgian roads and the 300 is also successful.

I drove American cars till 1985, then i switched to BMW. This was my second 1 and it was a great car, people came to watch it when it was parked in the city, I bought because it was seen on Charlie's Angels

Since you guys mainly put huge expensive rides up in this thread, I'd like to tell how it is over here...my home country has the highest car prices in the world. Basically we get one car and pay for 3!
Alas...the last car my dad ever bought. The east german Wartburg 353W!

After riding in this one I decided NOT to get a driver's liscence

K, those ones were relatively popular here. Name all the marks: Wartburg, Moskvitch, Volga, Skoda and the undestructable Barkas and Lada.

They all dissapeared now except for Skoda who is a genuine brand now under supervision of Volkswagen.

Volga had something classy IMO:

I'm amazed that Volgas were never imported into the Democratic People's Republic of Massachusetts for our Politburo members in Boston to drive.

I met an older woman last night who moved from Massachusetts to Florida in 1989. I asked her why she moved "The politics in Massachusetts drove me out" was her reply.

Johan,
That Volga actually looks quite nice. Is it a good car?

I never drove one myself Bernie but a friend of mine had a Volga and I remember it being very basic, no comfort at all but Winter or Summer, his car did the job and was very reliable. Same goes for the Vans made by Barkas, ugly as hell but strong as a tank!

Thank you :D

Of course it would be an updated version of Al Goldstein's "Midnight Blue". 8)

That Volga is very nice, looks more like british 60s sports car to me actually.
Other russian "classic" ( ) cars include:
Zaz - the russian equilavalent of the NSU Printz

and the rather american looking ZIL 117 (strictly for the Sovjet top politicians)

Poland also produced liscenced version sof Fiats popular late 60s and early 70s models:
This one was basically a Lada:

Talkin about NSU, although they were mainly known for smaller cars they also came out with this luxury model in 1968. The RO 80.

Looks like a strange mix of a 70s Peugot and an Austin Princess.[/img]
