Default Someone Tell Me The Artist Of This LP???

Movie Lover's Disco
Soap Factory Disco Theme
Find My Fire
Long Distance Romance

Me and an online buddy got hold of some mp3s just simply labeled "Don" as the artist. This is a soliddddddddddd LP! Please help! What is it really? Or is it Don LOL. Has a combo of the hard NYC Symphonic disco with a touch of Costandinos influence. The reserch I tried to do it turns out that this Soap Factory Disco Theme was to a disco show back in the day and released on 12'' by a group called Lou Hemsey & The New York Ensemble. But no other listings of anyhting else. Could this be the right artist? Any help apreciated!

Jimmy

I have "Movie Lovers Disco" on a Brazilian compilation done by a Brazilian DJ called Gaby. "Movie Lovers Disco" is a medley by Janet Manchester on Barclay/Rei-Vera label:

Fox Fanfarre (from Twentieth Century Fox :D )
Movie Lovers Disco
Love Story
Love Is A Many Splendored Thing
A Man And A Woman
Johnny Guitar
I Will Wait For You
The Umbrellas Of Cherbourg

Is it the same?

Thanx man! The rest of the LP is the same singer minus "Soap Factory Disco Theme", which is same production so..this is her LP then. Thanks a bundle!

Having heard these, "Movie lover's disco" is definitely by Janet Manchester, from 1978. I can also tell you that it seems to be out of the Costandinos/Cerrone/etc. Euro-production stable, in that the backing singers on the LP were Sue Glover, Sunny Leslie, Joanne Stone, Russel Stone and Tony Burrows.

Just to further confuse the issue, after lots of searching on the web, I found this LP for sale on a Korean web site:
http://lpmusic.co.kr/item.php?it_id=4730

The LP is called "Disco screen" and has the Movie Lovers Disco medley on Side 1, but on Side 2 it has "Tomorrow's memories" and "Baby try my love", i.e. neither of the tracks you have listed! Maybe this is a Korean release with different tracks?

Apart from that, I can't find any other information on this LP. Surprisingly neither the LP nor 7" nor anything else by this artist are available on GEMM, eBay or Musicstack, so it must be seriously rare!

Tracks 2 and 3 you list do sound like the same singer/production. However, the last track "Long distance romance" is clearly the Ritchie Family's recording of the song on their "Life is music" LP. So why this is included here is beyond me! Maybe Janet Manchester did do a cover version of this song, but for some reason the wrong version was included? Very strange.

Darren, I wouldnt doubt that at all about the "Life Is Music" LP as its the only Ricthie Family I dont own and I made a comment to someone that Side B, espessaly "Long Distance Romance" sounded like Richie Rome and co! I think whats happened here is whoever made these mp3's jumbled up a bunch of shit putting his name on it (Don) and in reality these are all tracks by different artists! So, "Soap Box Disco Theme" must be the Lou Hemsley & The NY Ensemble I researched then.

Now this is all coming together :)

Just need to find out what the artist "Find My Fire" is!

If you can view this page in Google's cache (the web page itself seems to no longer exist), it would suggest that "Find my Fire" is, in fact, by Don! :o

Find My Fire

It's just the other three tracks weren't! :D

Not by Don, it is a link to someone's webpage of a collection of mp3s they got, which would mean they have the same mp3 we do and just didnt figure it out (cause they aint smart disco heads like us maybe? LOL). Im having a strong feeling just by the sound of the song that its the B side of "Soap Factory Disco Theme" which is by that Lou Hemsley dude. But, can not get info on whats on the B side of that 12 so dont know 4 sure.

Is it just me, or does "Janet Manchester" sound like a pseudonym?
