Default Reward For IDs on 1983 Saint Black Party Real Audio Clips

hey guys,

i've been enjoying the real audio clips of the March 1983 Black Party at the Saint with DJs Chuck Parsons & Wayne Scott listed on this site:

http://www.saintatlarge.com/main.htm

the real audio clips can be found by clicking on the home page bar where it says "05.Radio"

just for fun, i made up a track listing for the entire 14 or so hours of real audio clips, but i'm stumped at a few places - particularly during the first and last of the five super-lengthy audio clips that comprise nearly the entire night's marathon.

i'll send my nearly complete tracklisting to anyone who can properly ID the cuts i've noted below. be warned - most of the tracks i haven't yet identified are OBSCURE - i'm hoping NickNack, markydefad, and you other genius track identifiers can rise to the challenge!

Audio Clip One:
5:48 - a dark Italo instrumental in the style of Pink Project

1:21:46 instrumental snippet of next track
1:22:45 Italo male vocal - i can't understand a thing he's singing!!!!!

2:00:00 this is early '80s Italian disco in the style of Ceslo Vali - the refrain is "You Better Straighten Out Baby" - this one's driving me crazy because i know it and i'm pretty sure i have it, but i can't figure it out! i think it might be an album track. i love this cut!

2:20:20 Italo instrumental

2:34:25 Italo instrumental

Audio Clip Two:
2:37:47 pop-rock-soul-NRG female remake of the Supremes “Back In My Arms Again“ - fair, but disposable

Audio Clip Three:
43:00 - ghastly female hi-NRG version of Dusty Springfield/Dionne Warwick hit “I Just Don’t Know What to Do With Myself” - bad taste alert! eeeeeeeeeek!

Audio Clip Four
47:00 male/female pop-soul duet - this one has grown on me - almost sounds a bit like Fleetwood Mac, but with louder drums and soul singers doing the duet - pretty sure it's got to be called "Come Back to Me Baby."

1:52:25 male early '80s R&B disco-funk very much in the style of the Whispers - the refrain is "You Gotta Walk Through It to Get to It" - this goes to show how the Saint's music policy could include a few soulful surprises amidst the disco NRG.

Audio Clip Five
41:00 - this is another nice one - it's an old-school soul diva from the same school as Denise LaSalle and Millie Jackson, and the refrain is "I've Got News For You, You Can Go Back" - if i don't own this already, i should!

56:25 - rough male vocal with cheesy early '80s synth-rock arrangement - the chorus features the phrase "I Don't, I Don't Need No Money" - there's obviously a good reason that this one only plays for three minutes!!!!

59:38 - the very next cut - another goodie - a female pop vocal with a mid-tempo disco arrangement - pretty sure the title of this must be "When Loving You."

that's it! enjoy the clips and thanks in advance!

The song you thought sounded like Fleetwood Mac sounds like it might be K.C. and Teri DeSerio.

Barry,

I'm taking some wild guesses here so don't shoot me:

Clip 2: Cynthia Manley - Back In My Arms Again

Clip 3: Cheri Lewis - I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself

I've never heard either. I just see their names listed out there. I will say this: Whoever mixed that horrid version of the Dusty/Dionne classic behind Jeanne Shy's wonderful "Night Dancer" should have taken a different drug :x .... or a few more!

yes, you are definitely right about Cynthia Manley - Back In My Arms Again - i thought of Miss Manley while listening to the clips the first time around, but her name escaped me while putting together the list.

i'm pretty sure you're right also about Cheri Lewis - I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself - i don't know the record, but the little i've found on the web supports your suggestion.

enjoy your tracklisting and thanks very much!

yeah, i was struck by what a bad choice it was to go from jeanne shy's lush "night dancer" to that aerobic-class trashing of one my favorite dusty tracks. i imagined manager insisting the DJ play the "i just don't know. . ." remake immediately or a producer putting a gun (or some other phallic object!) to his head - there's certainly no musical connection between the two records besides the bpm. near the end of the night (or morning!), there's a mix that happens abruptly in the middle of a vocal, as if a similar event transpired.

i thought the mixing was quite good, not quite A-level like Robbie Leslie, but clever in places, and there aren't too many tracks that would've sent me running to the men's room like the "i just don't know . . ." remake. it's also interesting how close the two DJs are in style - they even play some of the same songs. i'm guessing that the second one came on after the few moments of silence during the third audio clip.

what about that "You Better Straighten Out Baby" track? is it familiar to you? i know i know it and it's driving me nuts!

oooohhh hats off to discodisk once again!

cissy's is an excellent version - similar tempo, but with a big backbeat added - she really tears the tune up!

Cissy's version of "IJDKWTDWM" is on this CD...

from AMG:

"Midnight Train To Georgia: The Janus Years"

Fine 21-track compilation of almost everything she recorded between 1970 and 1975, including most of her 1970 album Presenting Cissy Houston, ten songs that were previously available only on singles, and a couple that were previously unreleased in the U.S. Highlights include excellent interpretations of two Bacharach-David classics ("I Just Don't Know What to Do with Myself," "This Empty Place") and Tim Hardin's "Hang On to a Dream," as well as the original version of "Midnight Train to Georgia." — Richie Unterberger

I found this not too long ago...but it may have been used.
