Dr. Buzzard's - "Where were you when I needed you"

There's a jazzy disco song from the 1979 album James Monroe H.S. Presents Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band GOES TO WASHINGTON that has these lyrics: "ain't you got no shame, ...be strung out, and st. james' fury, I called your name out loud, ...Where were you when I needed you, don't you think I know, where were you, where..." What's the song title?

How many LPs did Dr.Buzzard release? I'm only familiar with the '76 one with Cherchez La Femme on it.

steely there was 4 the one you mention,meets king penett as bernie mentioned and the goes to washington discosavvy is talking about,then i believe there was a 4th much later but to be honest i gave up after the first 3,what happened to dr buzzard? :- ,i was quite excited when the second album came out but what a let down,i remember ian levine premiering 'mr love' at the ritz in manchester and i truly can never remember a record bombing in a club like that it was like somebody shouted FIRE :lol: i think hes never lived that down to this day,you know how precious he is and there was NOTHING on the third,in truth the first album was just right for the time probibly wouldnt have happened a year earlier or a year later,ill play the fool was the opposite to mr love,in the top 3 floorfillers [disco] i ever remember.

The 4th Dr. Buzzard album was "Calling All Beatniks", released in 1984 on the Passport label (catalog# PB 6031). It's pretty bad, think I only played it once.

Yeah, Dr. Buzzard was a most curious case. One BRILLIANT LP and lotsa crap to follow. The Kid Creole stuff was good, Cory Daye's solo LP was good--why were the Dr. Buzzard followups soooooooo lousy???? Like "how did they ever decide to release this shit"??? BAD!!!! :oops: :oops: :oops:

Elbow Bones & The Rackateers LP from 1984 (best remembered for "A Night In New York") was another August Darnell side-project that is damned good. Lotsa stuff on that coulda, would, shoulda been hits if they had promoted it properly. :evil:

I played it recently and it sounded, as the kidz say, sweet!!!

Yes I agree that the Elbow Bones LP was under-rated. Back on the subject of Kid Creole trivia, didn't I read somewhere that Christina of 'Disco Clone' fame (another under-rated classic IMO!) was married to August Darnell (who, by the way, now lives in Blackpool just up the road from me - bizarre or what?! :o ). I also watched a TV program about New York last year & one of the residents it featured was Coati Mundi & he lives in a one bedroom apartment & works as a decorator I think.(I always thought one of the funniest lines in a record was 'when you came from the VD clinic I thought our love was finished' from 'Me No pop I'! :lol: )

STEELY i didnt know the darnell lived in blackpool you surprise me,wonder what he makes of that place :o he was on t.v the other week on that taxi nights programmew you know the one filmed in manchester where they video drunken taxi punters,he looked really well considering he wasnt that young when they cut that first dr buzzard album.

Yes I saw that Taxi Nights program DD (the whole series features the Manchester 'scene' quite a bit - the taxi drivers here are very nice generally; I can't tell u the amount of times I haven't had to pay for a taxi! :o :-? ) I did have it on good authority that Mr.Darnell lived in Blackpool after appearing in a production of 'Boogie Nights' & liked it so much he stayed! :o
