Breakaway. Who is the artist?

Many years ago I had a cassette compilation which got ruined. On it was Divine "You think you're a man", Carol Jiani "Hit n run lover" and Imagination "Body talk". There was also a fast track called (I think) "Breakaway".

I don't know who the artist was but I think the lyrics went something like "You've got to breakaway, make yourself a better day, don't throw away that energy, take a chance and smile and say, breakaway, breakaway, I need to breakaway, breakaway".

The singer was female, it was from the early eighties and I desperately want to find a copy of it. If anybody knows who did it, please let me know.

Tracey Ullman did a song called "Breakaway" in the 80's that was pretty uptempo. Though it wasn't really disco, it was certainly danceable. Those don't sound like the lyrics, though.

I listened to the song and it has female vocals and matches the lyrics you mentioned. It's in a high energy groove and suits nicely to the Divine and Carol Jiani style. I have it on a nice Australian compilation cd called "Mirror ball classics 2".

Alfred Beasley! If this is really you I'm gonna pee my pants! We just had a thread a month ago talking about your LP and it's wonderfull-ness(do a search in forums for "the album Watson Beasley) I have wondered why you both
only recorded 1 lp with so much promise and talent-share with us what happened after
