I recalled a record called Inch By Inch but when I pulled the record out it's not the same as the one I heard on the clip. The song I have is called Inch By Inch. The artist is Patti Day .The record is a house style produced by Michael Zager and mixed by David Coles and Robert Clivilles. The year of release is 1989 on the Starway Records label however the tune is strikingly similar to the one heard on the clip with some of the words changed. So I'm wondering if this is a later reworked version of the original song by Michael Zager. The song writer was Diane Warren.

It sounds incredibly Vince Montana/Salsoul Orch./MFSB don't you think? Although, it sounds too boring and repetitive even for them. I'd swear the vocal was sampled and dropped in (i.e not sung each time) so that would probably place it in 1982-1984, unless Frankie was dropping those from another disc.

Frankie wasn't that much of a mixer then?

You and I were thinking very much alike on this one. I swore it was a Salsoul/MFSB thing but too repetitive, not going anywhere. Everything seemed looped and the "vocal" is surely a sample.

# 4 is for sure PERSIA "Inch by inch" on Casablanca Records. This was an early Chicago sound classic
#3 is so typically Salsoul that I never concentrated on it (I know this tape for a long time now), but I realy cannot come up with a name..... would say Double Exposure

Default Darn!

And I emailed Frankie directly at www.defmix.com, who then forwarded it to the board at deephouse, where I got the same answer: The Dells!

Now if someone can please explain what these "Ugly Edits" are... want to know more, and where to find them!

Many thanks!

maarten, the ugly edits is what it says..
edits of old and new tracks done by chicago native theo parrish. many similar edits have been done before by such people as dj ron hardy. the "original" edits are all whites and are very limited but they have been booted and can be bought at gemm, ebay or your local record dealer maybe..
for more info do a search in the topics at dhp, they have discussed these to the end..

peace /johnnyboy
