I'm not the one to argue but according to my copy of the "breakin" original motion picture soundtrack, "Body Work" is in fact from way back in 1984.

And there's more: www.discogs.com lists the original 12" on Easy Street, proclaiming that's it's actually from 1983.

KBee; It was possibly in '83 although I didn't play it until '84 when I got hold of the UK release. Somehow, I can't imagine such a hot record languishing around for months and months waiting for a UK release. It was absolute dynamite.
One of my all time faves and a track I used in a DMC mix (one of my small claims to fame) I did in '85.

That would be a thrill, to think the thing actually got played. My impression with DMC releases was that every jock wanted to be seen with them. but no one actually played 'em much. I always found them not quite right for my crowd, but I was a DJ slut and blew my own trumpet by playing mine. After all, it was conceived with my crowd in mind.

Quinny...i'm absolutely shocked. I'm 99% sure the mix was yours....i remember eddy & the soul band being in there too.
DMC mixes were actually quite popular on danish pirate radio back. The facts is that most radio DJ's at the time were crab at mixing themselves so they had to rely on mix releases from others.

Ho, Ho, Ho. That's probably not my greatest claim to fame.

There was a (rather poor in places and certainly not as the title suggested) SALSA MIX that I did earlier that ended up on the first DMC 'Best Of' LP. The last 5 minutes really motored, but some of it makes me cringe nowadays.

I also played a piano riff on the 1988/89 Housey Housey mix of Sylvester - Do Ya Wanna Funk (Domino records)which dented the UK charts. It was me that kept the original 2 track master in sync with the overlaid drum machine parts and did all the edits that made the re-issue possible. I never got paid a cent for it.

As a old danish Mix Dj from that named period in the mid 80s heres a little info on radiomixes back then.

we had had 2 different radioshows playing megamixes. One being Studio 83, 84, 85,whatever the year was ect on national radio (DR)where the Dj played alot of the PACO supermixes from 92KTU, the Latin racals mixes from their radio shows and the mixes Aldo Marin made.

The other show being a show on local radio (voice) that played whatevermix he could find to fill a whole program - just like the old Tony Prince mix shows on Radio Luxemburg. This was the best program as we (the local talnt) had alot of airplay during that time. However they were not allowed to play DMC mixes becuase the guy handling DMC back then (later the manager of Aqua) wanted to keep DMC exclusive to DJs.


As for the track in this thread..it can only be Body work by Hot Streak..but you already figured that out.

Quinny/Steve Gladders interesting to see you here - I always loved the Modern Romance records but that Salsa mix ehemmm well never mind.

As for DMC here is some interesting reading if you like to get some inside info on Alan Coulthards suit on DMC / Tony Prince or what ever his REAL name is

Gosh, that goes on a bit doesn't it? Very interesting though as I remember reading Alan Coulthard's contributions to Record Mirror in the early 80's & I also listened to Tony Prince's shows on Radio Luxembourg in the late 70's. I always got the impression that Tony wasn't really into disco that much but his shows were one of the few places I could hear stuff like Gino Soccio & Brainstorm as British radio stations only played the very commercial disco like Sister Sledge & Eddy Grant amongst its otherwise rock-dominated stuff; I was too young to go to discos in the late 70's/early 80's period I'm afraid. :cry:

Plingggggggggggg OK now I know, This mix ('Q To The Break' found on DMC31 Mixes 2) was played on wednesday october 2nd 1985 in the broadcast 'Klubland' 7:05 - 7:30 pm) on Danish Radio channel 3.

Steve (Quinny), I noticed that Our Site (www.kimschumacher.dk) did not carry information about the mixer, you, which I dug out from my old notes, I have updated the database entry and you are now immortalised ;) in fact I had at one time written 'Steve Gladders Club Mix' as a working title for the database on Our Site(tm).

You've obviously taken the tracklisting from the DMC record, which was incorrect. If you listen closely there's some of Konk's - Your Life in the background underneath T Connection's Do What You Wanna Do as well as The Voice Of Q in the foreground. There were 2 'triple mixes' in this mix, the other being Rock The Boat, Feel The Need & Boogie Nights. I think they left off Feel the Need too, as they didn't realize that it was a triple mix going on. I can just imagine it now "the guy's got Feel The Need listed, but where is it?"
In the original unabridged version, Konk was featured more along with Bombers - Dance, Dance, Dance, prior to it and one of my favourite parts of the mix, Earth Wind & Fire - Boogie Wonderland right at the end. I have this version on the original Hi Fi video master at home.

Just thought you'd be interested. First hand knowledge, eh?

P.S. The original name for the mix was 'The Mix Of Q' after my DJ name Quinny and the fact that 'The Voice Of Q' figured so prominantly. I was miffed at first when I saw they'd changed it, but then I came around to thinking their title was probably better.

Even though most DMC mix record have a small text that says to check MixMag magazine for a detailed listing (do you know if it was different than the record?)
I was shy of asking you directly for a comment on more details. But having your excellent comment here I am going to make a remark at the bottom of the broadcast, which will reveal your take on the situation.
BTW I do think your name for the mix is just a tad better than the one DMC made up. Also it is not nice to change it without telling you. But as they probably already paid you for it, they thought they would do with itwhat pleased their marketing dept.

Mikkelbreiler: I'm sorry to admit that I never read the mixmag very often. We used to get DMC at the Disco I worked, but I was one of 4 DJs there and one of the other guys or the manager usually got hold of it and it very rarely went any further.
I even had to pester DMC for the vinyl copy I have.
BTW: I was not paid anything like £400.00 for the mix, maybe half that at the very most. Even that might be a generous figure.

I guess it was liked enough to actually get a spin?
