experimental musician Laurie Anderson had a surprise in 1981 with "O Superman".
I don't know the lyrics but it was a very ambient sounding song and definetely as far from disco as you can imagine.

Could that be the one??

What's the group on a small Canadian label that did "Superman (He's My Hero)"? Someone just asked about this not too long ago. Of course, I can't find the post. :x

Also, "Superman" by Celi Bee & The Buzzy Bunch.

Different lyrics though.

ok, here's who it's not...

not celi bee
not the kinks
not laurie anderson

dutch group vulcano???
don't think so but haven't heard it and can't find it.

i've actually thought and thought on this and think it might have been even earlier by about 5 years! so my 1980 guess might have been out. the song made the radio in australia because i know i *never* bought the album (vinyl) or heard it on cd so can anyone think back a tad earlier? this one is driving me nuts! i'vetried all the oz hit lists and can't find it there either. one hit wonder???

Well, I checked out ("You're My) Superhero" (the correct title) and it's not the one you want.

This posting from almost a year ago popped into my head (memory's a wonderful thing) again when I recently came across a song called "I'm Your Superman" by Jan Leslie Holmes (12" Disco Mix version, 1984)

Is it this one by any chance? Are you still around, phaze?
