DJ's like Knuckles and Hardy for example - I often notice their use of sound effects layered over the music. One specific sample that they and others often used was the infamous speeding train and horns sample, and I've been looking far and wide to try and find a sample that resembles that. Although there are many train samples out there, so far none have sounded just right. So my question is, does anyone know if the train sample was lifted of a specific sound effects release? I would very much appreciate to have this ID'ed if possible. Thanks! Last edited by Dex G; November 4th, 2009 at 07:19 AM. Reason: edited title of post to be more specific

Hello Dex; The samples that you mentioned most likely come from the beginnings of: sharon red - beat the street and burn rubber on me - gap band. Ron Hardy played those tunes in the 80's at the chicago's "Warehouse"

in the pre-CD age, I saw several albums of recorded sound effects. Haven't seen any recently but haven't looked either. I do own one CD of "nature" sounds....rain, a babbling brook, crushing leaves, the wind blowing, things like that.

Thanks both, Adrian, I was thinking more of a specific sound of a train like the opening of Telex - Moscow Disco for example. But I'm sure the songs you listed were used also. Cory, yeah, it was that kind of album I thought it could be. There were a lot of those back in the day. The best way to describe the train sample is something similar to the ending of "Caroline No" by the Beach Boys if anyone is familiar with that. But I suppose it has to be something recorded in stereo to give the effect of the train passing between the right and left speaker sections.
