Help with "Vietnamese New Wave" tape track id's

Hi everyone -

thanks for keeping such a great resource alive.
I come to you with some "Vietnamese New Wave" id's today. If anyone has any info on this phenomenon, i would love to hear it.
Somehow Italodisco, Synthpop, German HI-NRG and Eurodance artists from the mid-80s who had some success in Europe were cherished in Vietnam/Vietnamese communities in the US, through the trading of bootleg series tapes.

I found one such Viet. NW tape labelled "New Wave #16" by label Soundesigner in a thrift shop in Richmond, VA. The cover was mismatched, belonging to another tape, New Wave #48, and I couldn't resist the Nagel-esque embossed artwork. Purchased it for $0.25 and it made an enjoyable listen for the drive home.

Ten tracks in all, smashed together to fit the 1hr long tape. ANY info is appreciated. Anyone know of collections or listings of such bootlegs? How did this music get over to southeast asia/ southeast asian americans?

Any fans of synthpop, synthesized handclaps, arpeggios, or synth horns should check this tape out.

I'm glad to make my way to this forum.

I have the same situation with a tape that I get from my father, there is the song "A Night To Remember" among others, like Giorgio Moroder's "Baby Blue" but i can't find any reference to the rest of it, on the web.

There are song that have lyrics like:
"it's a night crash..." "there's no turn back..."
"i was born..." "never ending love..."
"you and me..." "for me you are the only guy..."
"i wake up in the morning... " "my head is still on fire..." "hey eileen..."
"hold me in your arms again..." === this one i think is Fancy.
"touch in the night..." i think this is Silent Circle.

i need the name of the album...

The song in question is "It Might Be You" by Cheryl Hardy, on the B-side of "It Takes a Lifetime" from 1985 on Papagayo records. The other track on the 12" "One Night Stand" is great too.

I had a Vietnamese friend in Junior High that turned me onto a lot of New Wave and I have a couple of the "New Wave #??" tapes sitting around still and a few other mix tapes he made for me. It was only a few years ago I discovered that a number of the songs were done by Modern Talking. I'll dig them out and see if I can add more ot the thread later tonight...
