Default 80's Soul Instrumental Track ?

Hello,

Pleased to be here. Long-time lover of disco music who's just joined. Relishing the wealth of information here.

Wondered if anyone can help me identify this track. I think I recorded it from the radio (UK) in the early 90's but from the drums it sounds like an 80's production. I posted the sample on another site but got no luck. Hope someone here will know it. Kind of smoochy but nice.

zSHARE - 80s soul track.mp3

Look forward to seeing if I can spot some of you id's

Thanks

You want this song, or the one it covers? Its a DC GoGo cover (yet again) of and older song that escapes my mind right now, hence the "Now were going to go back" part. I know theres a lot of GoGo in the UK....I bought a ton there;)

Hi Ian,

I wanted to know what the track in the clip was, but I'm fascinated to hear its a cover of an earlier tune. Washington GoGo ? I'd never have guessed that, but then again all I really know of that genre is Trouble Funk

Thanks for providing some clues. If anything more come to you then let me know !

Hmm, I wonder if theres a GoGo forum ?

Could be Chuck Brown, of Soul Searchers fame. He pretty much coined the term GoGo. Definately off a "live" album. Theres so many GoGo records, and so many soooo hard to get. Thats a can of worms right there. But yeah, GoGo's thing was to be dance music for parties, non stop, so they played a lot of covers. Kind of a way more hype wedding band.

Cheers for the further info . Will have to check out some Chuck Brown stuff.

Just realised where that "What we're gonna do right here is go back" sample comes from, think it's from Jimmy Castor's 'Troglodyte', but I can't tell if it's on the vinyl or added by the DJ as a jingle.

The "What we're gonna do right here is go back" sample seems to be added to the original tune by somebody else. It's very much out of place.
That said, I don't think this is go go at all. More like 80s smooth jazz in the GRP style.

Hello K-Bee,

Thanks for your post. I think you're definitely right about the added sample.

Yep, it doesn't sound like Go Go to me either, but I have to admit I know very little about the genre.

Over 100 people on another forum have listened to this and none of them have any idea who the track is by ! I agree, it does have a 'smooth' sort of vibe . I'll investigate GRP. Thanks for your suggestion.
