| Hi there. I'm looking for a song that was made in the early 80s, it was sampled by a group called 'Black Riot' back in 1989 and Todd Terry was the producer. The song is called 'Just Make That Move' on West End Records. In it there was a sample with an electronic voice and it sounded like it said 'rush' or 'fresh' or something like that. Real DJs would know it well because it was popular back then. The original song had a group of words huddled together before it would say 'fresh' or 'rush' multiple times. Black Riot even had the beats that went with that sample song too! I really would like to know (for the ones who know it well), where did that sample come from, and who were the artists that sung it? I really would appreciate anyone's help, especially DJs. Well thank you for your time! DiscoMusic.com ROCKS!!!!!!!!! :D |

| Are you referring to Shalamar's "Make That Move" from 1981 and another "Make That Move" by Finest Hour from 1989? I looked at the West End discography in the back of Mel Cheren's book and didn't see a West End release with the title you gave: "Just Make That Move". Just a wild guess. :o

| Sorry Marky, although both those hits were solid back then (and still are), those aren't the songs. West End had a gang of songs in the 70s/80s but I was surprised to see this song on it, maybe for its last time for sure. However, I'm 100% certain of what I say because I have the 12".... artist - Black Riot title - Just Make That Move label - West End Records year - 1989 producer - Todd Terry Go figure right? lol. Now if you know who Todd 'the God' is, you know he is a hardcore house beat sampler. In THIS particular album he used a sample from an electro breakbeatfrom the early 80s, basically the electric voice is a dead giveaway to those in the know. I guess you would have to hear it to know. I don't know how easy it is to get anywhere on the web, I wish I could deliver an mp3 to you but i just don't have the software to do so. But thanx anyway bud-dy. |

| I figured I was waaaaay of base. But ya never know. Sometimes people ask for stuff that seems too obvious and sure enough, that's all it was: "toot toot, yeah, beep beep" comes to mind!!!! I wouldn't know, if you sent an mp3...I'd stopped dancing by then. I'm old. But some of the "kidz" around here may. Where's wow and the kidz who are always raving about the "house" and later stuff when you need them???

| Gee, I wish it were THAT simple! I know one thing, these 'kidz' wouldn't even have a clue as to what the music scene was back in those days when music really counted for good nostalgic memories! I even tried a search on www.google.com. Maybe I didn't try hard enough! To do a specific search I'd probably have to know what the official website for West End Records is. Or maybe I should opt for the obvious goal, type in http://westendrecords.com? It couldn't be that simple no? Oh well. I'm NOT gonna give up yet, I'll die trying if need be! LOL! |

| Okay let's clear this, Black Riot wasn't REALLY a Band, at the begin of the 'nineties Todd Terry was recording under several names: Orange Lemon, Royal House and Black Riot, There was a point that Little Louie Vega understood the potential of the sampled products of Mr Terry, that till that moment were having very underground release (for obvious problems in clearing the samples) for small indipendent labels, so it provide Todd with a singer: Peggy Harley and ask for permission to release the track on the (at the time) unused for long time label West End, I'm not sure how much The original people from the label had anything to do with the track itself. Black Riot's "Just Make That Move" was born> Now, for what is the sample used, let me quote: "Standing at the machine every day for all my life I'm used to do it and I need it It's the only thing I want It's just a rush, push, cash" The line is stolen by that MASTERPIECE of Electronic dance called "BOSTICH" by YELLO and funnily enough if you hear the all track you'll find another VERY famous line : "Everybody be Somebody" sampled by Ruffneck for their omonymus track. Hope I've been of any help. Have a SAMPLADELIC time!!!

| Ladies & gentlemen, we have a WINNAH!!!!!!!!!! BLAME-MY-PECS hit it right on the panic button. Bostich by Yello was exactly what I was looking for, and that make's you my new bestest friend! My sincere thanx goes out to you bud-dy, About Todd the God, informatively, if you're from the UK then his name is a household name especially in London. The British are geniuses when it comes to dance music (even better than the US, and I'M American!), & I'm not surprised you would know the answer to that question. Even the lyrics were right on point. I forgot about including Ruffnecks 'Everybody Be Somebody' to the list but no harm no foul right? Way to go man, thanx! |

| See how it all comes together!!!! Everyone has their own area of expertise!!! Very impressive , Pecs--you have become the "go-to man" for the house stuff. Ironically, I have "Bostich" by Yello--but I never heard of the Todd Terry song.
