Hi everyone, I heard a version of "Cathedrals", presumably sung by a black woman, that sounds quite like Shirley Bassey. Anyone aware of such a track, and who might sing it? Thanks, Chris Last edited by KoolChris; February 8th, 2007 at 04:49 AM.

I have a House version of "Cathedrals" on Slip n' Slide somewhere but it's probably not what your looking for as it's more like the D.C.LaRue version.

The D.C. Larue version is a good cover of the same track. But the one I'm trying to ID sounds very '70s-early '80s, so I doubt it could be a Slip'n'Slide release, as the label started in the '90s, as far as I know... In any case, it couldn't possibly be considered house... Last edited by KoolChris; February 6th, 2007 at 08:06 PM.

Well, this won't be very helpful: I heard it in a shop a friend of mine works in. I asked her to find out, however possible, whose version it was; upon inquiry, she only was able to tell me the music was an internet-based random tracklist service, and that there was no way to find it out from her standpoint. Knowing the alleged name of the track, I thought an internet search would bring a quick answer, but no luck so far. Who's the version you know of by?...

Well, "mellow" may not be accurate. I don't think it was mellower beat-wise; rather, the Shirley Bassey-like voice gave me that impression. But I guess it wouldn't be considered "mellow". Why not give up the name, so I can check it?... (Who knows, that might be it...)

Well, if it isn't Lee "El Wisecracko" Remicks... Thanks for asking such relevant questions... As a matter of fact, I was on the pot, between 4:18 AM and 11:43 PM, enjoying some Kentucky fried chicken with leftover thawed homemade sauerkraut, and drinking caffeine-free clear Tab & Mogan David, or was it Jolt & Ripple?!? One thing for sure: I was facing west, 'cuz otherwise I would have been facing the sewage facility across the street... That very important point having been cleared, 'anyone wanna venture an answer?????

I was looking for this thread and couldn't find it again ! I wonder if the version you heard Chris. was this one from the CD - Brenda Holloway - "My Love is Your Love" ? http://www.goldsoul.co.uk/shop/north...d/bestway.html I used to play it on "'The Metropolitan Soul Show".

Simon said it may be Brenda Holloway so i did a Yahoo Audio search and i found the "My Love Is Your Love" cd.the version on it sounds like a mid tempo Philly style track so that may be the one.

Thanks, Simon & Tony, for the Brenda Holloway lead, but...... ....that's not it. In fact, it seems to be arranged exactly like D.C. Larue's version, which is okay, but not what I'm looking for. In the meantime, through my own haphazard research, I stumbled upon what seems to be it. However, it's on a compilation, and there's no indication as to the author. An inquiry directed at the site I found a sample on has not been answered as of yet, so any share of expertise by fellow members will find a warm welcome and my infinite gratitude... click on this link for direct access to the sample: BEATSTREET.CA » JUKEBOX (be patient, as the Bassey soundalike comes in around 1:58). Thanks in advance!!!! KoolChris

I have to say I'm relieved it's not the one Chris, because I was a bit disturbed at the thought of one of my favourite soul singers being thought of as a Shirley Bassey soundalike ! No disrespect to Shirley of course. That being said, I quite like the version you're after for it's curiosity value. Please let us know who it is when you find out. Thats voice sounds to me as though it's owner might not have English as a first language...French perhaps? |
