Qdearl:

the introductory lyrics were "I can't tell you what a good thing is for my love/ I can't tell you what a bad thing is for my heart. Theirs female background singers and the male voice says towards the verses apex "I'm just a lonely man who loves you". Then it goes immediately into verse 2 with the same pattern as the first verse.

I still think its Black Ivory's "Will we ever come together" on Buddah from 1976ish. Also look at Webster Lewis, DJ Rogers, Robert Winters and Fall, and Walter Jackson but I do not think its them. The ballad does sound like 1979 or 80 but Black Ivory always set trends as opposed to follow them.

Thumbs up Re: Help me to identify this '79 or '80 soul-ballad, sample included

It's definitely not "Will we Ever Come Together" nor any track from that LP, It doesn't really sound like Black Ivory to me, I can't be 100% sure because I don't have all their Lp's, I'm missing 1, The one that includes Mainline (original) not when they re-released it on the LP Then & Now:D I'll listen to it some more and see what comes to mind.....

It's might be a group. The guy has an enourmous vocal range and I find it hard to believe that its someone totally unknown. It has an Enchantment or Brainstorm feel to it. Look to a group like the Dramatics that changes lead singers or a group that had a major change in personel.
