Full title: 70s Fashion Fiascos: Studio 54 to Saturday Night Fever
70s Fashion Fiascos: Studio 54 to Saturday Night Fever is a new book about clothing styles of the Disco era from Maureen Valdes Marsh that is sure to resonate with anyone who lived through the post-hippie era of the flamboyant 1970s.
When the author sent me 70s Fashion Fiascos, I wasn't sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised when I cracked open the book. First thing I did was smile, and smile along with several loud chuckles as I turned each page, which was full of loud, colorful and--"Oh my god, I had a pair of plaid pants almost like that..."
I couldn't wait for my girlfriend to get home as I knew she would get a kick out of it. Sure enough she did, even pointing out similar shoes and other pieces of clothing she wore back in the 1970s.
70s Fashion Fiascos: Studio 54 to Saturday Night Fever is more than Qiana and polyester and is really well done and full of vivid colorful photos of men, women and children dressed to the hilt in platform shoes, plaid suits and pants, bell bottoms, wide ties... you name it. The photographs all seem to be taken from fashion magazines, clothing catalogues, advertisements and sewing patterns from the 1970s, which mean they are crisp and clear with no disturbing backgrounds and all in glorious color.
Not content with just great photos, Maureen interjects background information on the styles and trends of the 1970s and delves into some of the big clothing designers of the time such as Emilio Pucci, Paco Rabanne and others. She even includes an extensive shopper's resource for those looking for vintage fashions.
Overall, 70s Fashion Fiascos is a wonderful book and one that will make a great present for the 70s aficionado or just sitting on the coffee table for your friends and family to reminisce.
