Wow.. I still miss CB. I have zero interest in a high school reunion - but sure would love to catch up with some from CB & Club Broadway. Any know what happened to Mykal Unash? Dan Hanson (?) aka Bam Bam from Yakima, Michael Johnson from Bothell, Matthew & Dale?

I don't think I'm the "Laura" above - but some may recall me at city beat as the tall gal that liked to speaker dance with green glow sticks on black thread.

    Hi,
I went to City Beat all the time but I dont think any of you guys remember me. But one of you guys mentioned Dan and Tanya. I was very close with Dan too. But I just wanted to inform you all that Dan passed away on April 5, 2009.
I dont know if any of you will get this in time but his brother will be having a memorial service for him on Sunday April 19 at 12:30 at a place called Manor Events in Everett. The address is: 13032 Admiralty Way. The web page for the place is www.manor-events.com If you go and have any pictures of him, his brother would really like that as he will have a place to display him.
If any of you knew him, you know its a huge loss.
    Sue

wow i cant believe i found this, let me tell you a little bit about my memories of city beat,im from tacoma wash and was kicked out of my parents house,i had a gf from gig harbor named andrea she was also kicked out,we both decided to take a bus to seattle and live on the streets,on that bus ride there we met a girl/boy named dominick who said when we get to seattle we should meet her friend roxy who could tell us how to be street wise lol,and remember i have never really been around gay people before as i was very straight.we ended up meeting lots of other people on broadway, everybody invited us to this club called city beat and take mda,so we went that night i didnt know what to expect,we didnt even have money to get in the door,so one person paid then came back out and they rubbed there stamp on our hands so it would show under the light,i met a guy named dan who kinda looked like the singer of love and rocketts and his friend tanya who ended up becoming my best friends,i met some other people mario,tj,little jane and sherry who game me my first hit of mda that night, wow i cant believe how it made me feel the mixture of mda the music and dancing i found what i been looking for, then this song knock on wood came on and that roxy person i met earlier came on the dance floor,im thinking im way to high, watching that was a little differnt,im still wondering today what was with the goth/batcave cowboy mix it seem to woork at the time,i still at this time find myself chewing on those damn clear straws lol anyways sorry for babbling on that was just one of the few real fun times of my life

I went to CityBeat around 1985/86 and have very fond memories of it, although honestly a little blurry. I remember the fantastic music and a couple times we ended up at the Monestary. I remember a girl named Mercy, but can't remember other peoples names really from that time. I went to the Omni a couple times, but didn't like it as much. It seemed too mainstream for my taste.

In the 90's I partied at Tugs on Belmont, the Brass Connection and Neighbors. And then later the fabulous Weathered Wall, Thursdays at the Rebar, and Fridays at the very brief Chocolate Factory in the old Velvet Elvis space.

    David,

I quit going out years ago. It just hasn't been the same.

Roxy worked at the Brass Connection until it imploded. Haven't heard any word of her in years. Last news I remember was when one of the lights at Neighbors fell on her head, they settled out of court.

Well, what a surprise.....I have to admit it's very
strange seeing all these names of people I used to
hang out with. Oh yes, I remember the MDA well. How could one ever forget that stuff! It was the best.
Yes, I also remember the occasional LSD trips as well. I am one of "The Brian's". Don't know if you remember us or not. There was two of us, both named Brian and were/are from Montana. Yes, we are both still around! The names and people I remember most of all from City Beat and in some cases still know, are: Mercy (Mercy knows!), Lee and Andrea, Chad, Debbie with the ball toothpick eyelashes, Ray Smiley, Big Mouth Andrea, Roxy - of course, Michael, Mateo, Mario Diaz, Morgan, Oozin' Susan, Pauline or "Sprawline" as we called her, Boy Mike of course...who used to tattle on everyone who was doing the MDA....Grrrrr! Remember chewing on like 50 straws while we were dancing and flying on the MDA? I still HAVE many of the tapes from the DJ's at City Beat. I had to beg and do other things to get those, by the way. They are treasured items. The other Brian and I always talk about the City Beat day's and it's amazing the stuff we can recall. Like when Sherry, who we used to get the MDA from got busted. The smell of "Poison" perfume and patchouli. The endless after hours parties we had at our apartment on the hill. The music of course......Slice Me Nice, Cccccan't You See, Colour My Love, Fire In The Sky, Love Spy, My Forbidden Lover. I've still got them all on 12" single vinyl, thank you! I went on to eventually DJ at gay bars in Phoenix, Tucson, San Diego and other interesting places. I now live back in Montana and the other Brian is in Seattle once again after living in SF, Boston, New Orleans, Dallas, Austin etc... It is extremely kool to find others who remember the City Beat days or I should say nights, like I do. Later Y'all and - Knock On Wood!!!!

I have been living in Japan for the last 10 years now and have been back in the summers and winters...what are places to go now in seattle...that has an 80s feel?? or at least some music? I know Neighbors is still there and has it themed nights...I believe ROXY has a show there now that the club he used to work at closed....I think it was the VORTEX....not sure was years ago....so little mike...any ideas???

I too went to the monastary once before it closed, but the party was long over, still I was amazeedd at the sound system and the residual feelings left behind.l Even though I was from Coeur d'Alene, the Monastary was famous. I remember being completely blown away when the people who we had introduced ourselves to and were sitting with let it drop that they had been awake 3 days. I couldn't believe such a thing could be possible.

Last I hear of Mouse (which was at least 6-8 years ago, he was cutting hair down by the westin somewhere. but that was awhile ago. I was a vending machine myself at the time, for Pony. He had the best. I remember the first time we rolled up to City Beat from Cd'A I rolled down my window and grabble the first black chick that walked by and asked her if she knew where I could get some of this "MDA" that I'd heard of. Turns out it was from Ginsberg, and I didn't feel a thing. Remember Kitty from Bellevue? It was all like a really good dream.

I too miss that place. I was just coming out at that time and City Beat made it easier. I was able to make it to the Monestary ONCE before THEY SHUT IT DOWN, but i made up for it at City Beat then Club Broadway. If you were taking MDA, then you might remember me. As I was the vending machine...then Sherry took over after sh*t started happening...(I wonder how Gary is)
I remember all the fun!!! Dancing til dawn...after hours....MDA (mostly) with the occasional LSD evening. I wonder how Mario, Roxy, Boy Mike, TJ, Mouse, Ru, Laura, Ron, Mercy, to name a few are doing? Anyone know?

The four months I spent at City Beat were the best 4 months of my life. I worked the door there (and occasionally the floor and back bar, but that was usually Alias's thing) What a wonderful time, I miss it so much. (not to mention the MDA) Pony, Roxy, Sean, Neal, Jono, Alias, David Ginsberg, Matthew Broyles, Bobby, Annette to name a few of the usual cast of characters, everyone else I probably met you as you paid your entry. I was just off of the farm in Coeur d'Alene and it was like a dream. I decided then that I wanted to be a dj, went back to Idaho, taught myself to spin, and George Freeman moved me back over to help start The Vortex. Then I worked at Neighbors and at DJ's Nightlife. What has happened to this city? It used to be so full of fun and life, now it's all Nike Town and Cheesecake Factory.... so sad... Big thanks to the corrupt SPD for bringing such a good time to a close. I will always have such fond memories of that place.
