Since this is a ‘disco’ site, I wanted to point out a delicious re-mix of an old Leo Sayer tune. (Don’t make fun of him just because he’s a white guy with an afro.)

    Before:

    After:
    http://www.free2airrecordings.com/meckvid/?quality=med

Dave the Rave, I remember that. It makes me remember the dark side of the FH, though. I lost 2 friends 'in the dust' - not physically, but mentally. Very sad to see the damage it did to them.

  • Dave The Rave

Hey Joey Ghost, Some of us Buggers myself included, changed the words to that song. Does anyone remember singing "Dust is a must we must have Dust" What a Flashback!!!!!!!

  • DJDynasty

    Hey JoeyGhost,
Daytona is about a 3 1/2 hour ride to me. Not too bad but damm Fl is such a long state. I have just about everything we need and would look forward to get a few FH mixes together here. Of course bringing some of your own tunes would be welcomed. We could trade and stuff as well.
    JOEY I
Thanks for the kind words and I am glad to be part of keeping the Funhouse music alive. I keep lurking the forum and get alot of ideas and inspiration.

As for the BIG 20Yr Reunion, I am hoping to be at least 1 of 2 Featured DJ's minimum. You know I've don't it before, and would cherish and relish the opportunity to do it again.

JoeyGhost - that dj space at Roseland is so huge! Great view. A friend of mine had that spot for awhile, too.

    Grace is the bomb.
    Lyrics interlude:
    "you're just 16; I'm 2 times that.
Tell me what you're momma's gonna think about that... Feel up Feel up!" lol

    Betty Boop:
I could not remember her name, but Darlene sounds right! The middle girl had a sister -- and once again, the memory fails with the name. I think that's her sister in the pic I posted above (3rd from the left).

As for the girl on the right, her name is Cindy. You know her? There's no way you can't know me, if you know her -- at least by face. We use to be tight.

Marialisa: You know your music! Emotional Disguise was one of my faves.

    Name this tune:

"They met one day in a summer storm
Her senses told her that it was wrong
She was a young lady of 23
He was a child of technology…

He wasn't programmed to understand -
Though technically he was a man
    Love wasn't in his capacity...

    I'm a little may-ey-hey-ey-an
    I'm made of _________
There ain't no way to ever love you"

Try to guess before you hear it.

You can hear it at DJ Dynasty’s site for free:
    http://www.musicv2.com/artist/djdynasty

Look for: “Funhouse Mix” Some electro funk of the early 80

(Emotional Disguise is in the mix, too.)

    Enjoy!

  • robert bronx boys

Wow, talk about stumbling on to a page that stirs up memories!! One person above asked if anyone remembered Bobby Anderson from OZ park. That's me, but I was from the Bronx. We just hung out and ventured out to chill with people from OZ, Brooklyn, Jersey, etc. I hung out at the middle stage and was one of the first to start the kick dancing craze. We were all into martial arts at the time. In fact, one day I slept over my friend Johnny Spaceman's house and had no sneakers since we went out to a dress up club the night before. I had to borrow his chinese slippers so I could dance right, next thing I know the following week everyones wearing chinese slippers and kung fu pants.. Those were the days. My crew was Ronnie Bam Bam from Jersey, Frankie Scooter (BX), Johhny Space (Bx), Bobby Bones (Bx), (the whole Allerton Avenue, Pelham Pkwy, Arthur Avenue, Morris Park crew combined). I was good friends with people from all over like Sal sex machine (brooklyn), we made circles and battled with Lenny and Todd, etc from jersey. The OZ boys hung out; joey Gallo, Nicky L., Sal Bianchi from Canarsie. I miss those days like crazy. Me and Ronnie bam bam hung at the front desk with Ronnie B. alot. I danced in two videos from the Funhouse. I was in "Confusion" by New Order throwing spinning kicks and also did the Planet Patrol video filmed there " didnt know I loved you till I saw you rock and roll". That was one song that bombed :). Anyway, thanks for bringing back some good time. Peace...

  • Morning Dancer

This is a shout out to Michael and Shy-Shy, too.

Why be such a stranger at this stage?

  • Morning Dancer

    Marcoh:
In Amsterdam? Great city! Great people. Been there.

    Marielisa:
I use to wonder the same thing about the background buzz in Remember, too. Wasn't it in French? I haven't heard it in years. It's still on vinyl for me, and I don't have a turntable.

It use to give me that feeling like trying to grasp at a deep memory -- a feeling that prevails with muffled words that get cloudy over the years.

I'm sure it was a deliberate effect.

    Pic of the week:
    Remember the Bumper Cars?

Dave the Rave! You use to go to Romeo & Juliet's, too?

They never played songs like 'Romeo & Juliet' and 'Come to Me' at the Funhouse. We had a different playlist there.

And yes, the boys' room was in the game room. You don't remember?

I can never forget the girls' room. It was an event walking in there. I have no idea what went on in the boys' room, but let's just say, the party never stopped.

  • Morning Dancer

Nicholas, you said, "The best dancers from N.Y.& N.J. hung out at the Funhouse."

    No doubt.

Can't wait to see your pics.

I've got one big heart for everyone that ever danced there.

  • Nicholas aka Funhouse B-boy

My name is Nicholas, this is great reading all these stories about the Funhouse. I danced I with my friends Romeo,Armando,Jose,Rio,& Dana plus our girlfriends at the time.We were by the middle stage were the dance floor started.Romeo to this day says the Funhouse was the BEST club of all time and I agree with him.We danced all different styles of dance loft-kickdancing-uprock-poplock-B-boying. The best dancers from N.Y.& N.J. hung out at the Funhouse and I learned from watching them.We also did 2 man helicopters and 3 man. I used to pick Romeo up and put him on my head and spin so fast that Romeo called it flying.I remember watching Lenny and Todd on the other side of the stage doing there thing and you can't forget the b-boys at back stage like Chino from Incredible Breakers and the Dynamic Rockers what battles I had the plesure of watching. This place had it all the best DJ JELLYBEAN, the music, the lightshow, the SHOWS "OH MY GOD THE SHOWS"!!!there are so many artist who performed there it will take me to long to list.the people themselves, the energy was crazy. And it was a Phenomenon in it's time. Thanks JOE for giving us the Funhouse.I will email again with some great stories and pictures. Thanks again for the memories. Nicholas aka Funhouse B-boy--BodyandSoulDancers.........

    joey cam

I have that Purple album too, its worth something like 60 dollars.

  • Scott Kaplan

    Joey Cam,

The night Planet Patrol was there, Jellybean didn't end up spinning that night.

It was Junior Vasquez who did a guest spotlight night on that evening. I'm not sure why Jellybean didn't do it.

But I do remember that they gave away Colored Vinyl Albums, and I stored mine in the back of Junior's Records in the booth with his OK while I went back to dance. I retrieved it at the end of the night.

  • Scott Kaplan

    HEY EVERYONE,

IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY, SEND ME AN E-MAIL WITH YOUR FIRST NAME FOR AN E-VITE TO THE PARTY I'M ARRANGING. ALSO INCLUDE HOW MANY WILL ATTEND WITH YOU.

  • Morning Dancer

    Scott, Ditto.

Dave the Rave, those flashbacks are crazy, aren't they?

Joey Cam, I want someone very familiar with the layout of the place to look at the full pic and tell me exactly where that Jester was. I am guessing that it was by the entrance.

It was snapped in August 1982.

  • Scott Kaplan

Wayne "Speedy" Schneider has a book of Fun House matches for every person in attendance at our next reunion.

  • Scott Kaplan

    Hey Joe Monk,

You mentioned 4000 people and RunDMC. I remember that Randy taped the show without thier permission on a $2 Radio Shack cassette, then after playing it 3x a night, RunDMC approached him and asked he sell them the cassette. Since Randy & Run DMC were such good friends, he sold it back to them for $2000 and then they printed it on vinyl.

  • Morning Dancer

I sure hope to be there. It needs to be a big enough space with booming speakers that will wake Wisconsin up.

We need lots of people for that. We'll wait until you get off the cruise ship -- or just keeping having reunions until you dock. 8-)

Marialisa: get someone to scan it for you. Let me know if I can help.

I think Cheryl got more complimentary smokes and drinks than anyone in the House.

    Morning Dancer,

I checked out all those videos great stuff put them on my favs. I agree with your comment on belonging to a clique, everyone in the funhouse was good by me. I can remember years later seeing people in the underground , latin qaurter and any other club that came after and you would always recognize and be glad to see someone from the house. I have some matches also and towel and a pink cut off t shirt regretfully i had a black jacket someone borrowed it and that was it, just hope they took care of it.

Those are yours, too? What's funny is 2 out of the 3 flyers that I have are the same as yours. We both decided to keep those two.

I e-m'd that site to tell them how much I liked the front entrance pic - especially in contrast to what it looks like today.

    Good ones, Joey.

My Jester should be up soon.

  • CAMONE

DID YOU ALSO CHECK OUT MY PICTURES OF THE FRONT ENTRANCE & THE TWO FLYERS 1981 PLANET PATROL & 1983 RUN DMC , MADONNA, WARP-9 ETC..

I WILL TRY AND GET THE MATCHES SCANNED ASAP.

  • Morning Dancer

I told that site owner I would be looking for FH matches! I use to have a matchbook collection -- from all the different clubs I use to go to. It was actually a very nice collection.

Just don't ask me what I did with it.

LOL. I probably trashed them when I was in a housecleaning mode.

I'm glad you still have one! Those were by far the best matchbook covers in the club circuit.

I would love to have a scan of that. Is that possible?

I loved those drink tickets, too! So that's your contribution, huh? Great.

I have pics to arrange and edit for display. I can't show them all. '-).

    Do you have other pics?

Just this morning, I submitted a pic of artwork from one of the walls to that site.

I have a very nice one of the backstage clown. Not many people noticed the artwork on the walls. I use to.

The owners were very creative with the design and concept of that place. That's what sticks with me.

  • CAMONE

Thanks for that site I am going to check it out in a min. Do you have any pictures of the club? Did you check out the slide show on the other site? Check out the flyers and the drink tickets I sent in. I just found an old silver book of FH matches.

  • Morning Dancer

Yes, we were close to the bar, too.

Who knows? Maybe we bumped into each other at the time...?? Could it be so impossible? It was crowded enough.

I never cared which clique anyone belonged to. Anytime I met someone from the Funhouse -- then and now -- and I use to get stopped ALL the time by strangers who recognized me from the House --

There was always a special bond.

We know what fun is. We can't explain why.

  • CAMONE

Jellybean Era. Jonathan Fearing played some great stuff too. My friends and I were from Canarsie, we stayed at the middle stage on the side where you get the drink tickets.

  • Morning Dancer

Joey Cam, yes -- but mainly, my intro to the place came through friends from Ave. U.

    I definitely wasn't there in '79.

Which do you think were the best years there?

Oh... the upstairs! Stairway to paradise lost.

When I first started going, I was by the centerstage. Later on, I gravitated towards the dancefloor.

I needed space to SPINNNNNNNN like the records on the turntables.

    Morning Dancer,

I said weeknight not weekend, it was like a Tuesday I remember being so exited an extra night at the House! I mostly hung out around the stage I always made sure I was able to sit on the stage for the shows. Loved to dance on the stage right after the show and till the morning. Unfortunately i had a friend who loved to hang out upstairs and then look for me when she got a little a lot rather, messed up. I would then have to get her a drink and sit her down somewhere but I always went back to dancin.

    Marialisa

  • Morning Dancer

Yes, Hot Tracks! Groundbreaking. The first time music videos aired on a major network. 'Confusion' was there!

However, I do recall 'Confusion' being taped on a weekend. Maybe I have it mixed up, but it was definitely a packed night that clubbers were out partying. People didn't show up as extras while the club was closed for a video shoot.

That's what I admired most about the producer of that video. He captured a reality in action - more like a documentary. There's nothing fake about it, including the pizzeria and the subway scene. That was where she worked, she was my friend, and that's how we use to travel to the Funhouse.

Other videos were shot there, with the club closed, like this song's:

    http://www.undergroundhiphop.com/store/detail.asp?UPC=ELN80912

I never liked that song, though. The video was weak, too.

They filmed a jazz dancer 'in my corner' of the dancefloor.

As you know, everyone had a place. Whenever I meet someone who went to the Funhouse, the first question is, "So, where did you hang out?"

Everybody had a spot like their own real estate. It was their House address. LOL>

I remember feeling violated that some other dancer was using my spot on the dancefloor for that video.

    I can be very territorial.

    HAHAHHHAHA

Where did you hang out, marialisa?

  • marialisa

    Morning Dancer,

I haven't downloaded it yet but I was there when they did the confusion video it was a week night if I recall, and it was sometime after the song was released. In fact I was there for most of the Hot trax recordings I can see Carlos Dejesus sitting in the clown like it was yesterday.I am going to check this out now.

And by the way, I'm the one in the white dress on the subway.

i went once with my brother we were club hopping we happened to come across the discotheque what a crazy night that was:-X

  • Morning Dancer

    Marialisa,

How true that was for me, too! I was saving lunch money for the weekends! All of my other friends had allowances and were 'allowed' to go. I can't believe the risks I use to take just to make sure I was there every weeekend. I had the STRICTEST parents! Every weekend was another mission: how do I find the money and what is my escape-from-the-house plan? HAHHAHAHA

    That's when I learned, where there's a will, there's a way.

    HAHAHAHAH

I was always a picture buff. These days, I call myself an amateur photographer. It's a hobby that I don't have much time for, but the point is, I HAD to find money for pics, too!

I regret not taking more pics of the cool artwork on the walls, but I have some that ended up in the background accidentally.

Maybe I'll set up a little website for the handful of pics I do have -- the ones safe enough for public display, that is!

    Nice chatting with you.

  • marialisa

    Morning Dancer,

I do not have any pictures and you raised a ? in my mind why not and the only reason i could think of is that in 82 i was really young and money was scarce for me I had to save all my lunch money for the week to get clothes to wear for Saturday at the funhouse. Ofcourse my mom had no clue it was the old i'm sleeping at so and so's house.I do have other items although i wish i had saved more guess i did not have the foresight that what was going on would have such an impact on my life.I would love to see any pictures you have, or share some memories.

  • Morning Dancer

    Marialisa,

I'm not sure if I ever had a t-shirt that said underwater, though I loved that song. Funny thing is, rummaging through old knick-knacks, I just found an old funhouse flyer with 'Underwater, Harry Thuman' written on the back of it. Someone in the DJ booth (Who?) wrote it out for me when I asked them what the name of the song was. I guess the flyer marks the date.

I was there in '82. Got any pics? Post them. I may not be the morning dancer you think I am, though.

    Peace.

  • marialisa

    Morning Dancer,

Did you wear a shirt that said underwater and danced on the main dance floor? I know that person's name I just do not want to say unless it is you. I was in the Funhouse from 82 till it closed in August 85. I guess I was part of the gen X crowd. And yes sweet g was a very smooth sounding rap with a great beat.

    Marialisa

  • Morning Dancer

Yes, I think you're right, marialisa! Sweet G. That should help. Thanks! He had a very smooth voice.

I THINK THE SONG YOUR THINKING OF GAMES PEOPLE PLAY WAS DONE BY SWEET G

  • Morning Dancer

It's 5 minutes before 11. The line is down the block. It's sub-zero degree weather, but we made it.

Sal is at the door. He sees us and waves us to the front.

    We're in.

"Here's my number and a dime. Call me, anytime!" is pumping through the speakers. The heat steams the mirror mazes as we weave through them, rushing to get in and through the crowd and make our way to our corner on the dancefloor.

Uh-oh. Madonna's in my corner. Who does she think she is, stealing our styles and calling them her own?

    Whatever.

Let's dance, gang. This is my house. My Funhouse.

Mi fun casa es su fun casa.

what's up Mark thanks for getting back to be. The years I went to the Funhouse were 79-83 straight & then off and on after Jellybean left. I know Danny Taz, we have a mutual friend we both know. He extended an invitation to the August reunion you guys had, but I was not able to attend. I also had been trading stories with Scott Kaplan.

    speak to you soon

Does anybody remember the song, "Games People Play?" I didn't see that on anyone's list.

let me know if anyone has a copy, please!

As for the theme song, Martin Circus' "Disco Circus" wins on my list.

You couldn't control the crowd when that came on. Then, again, was there any moment you could control that crowd?

    My faves include:
    Harry Thuman's 'Underwater'
    Tantra's 'Hills of Katmandu'

DJ's, please let me know if you have 'Games People Play'

This group is going to reincarnate at some point -- including all the artists that made that music of the era.

It was so powerful. It was so amazing. You had to live it to know what unbelievable it was.

It was the best bunch of party animals I ever had the pleasure of freaking out with in my entire life.

WOW!!! I am blown away by reading all the stories and the MEMORIES this site has brought back. I was 15-17 yrs old and took the path into Manhattan to make sure we got there before 11 to get in free and not leaving until 8 in the morning. We hung out at the center stage watching Louie & Anthony dance for hours. I remember one Easter morning when the lights went on Louie was yelling HAPPY EASTA JELLY BEAN - to this day me and my sister still say that to each other. Lee Botz - I remember you - you used to date my friend Theresa from Newark. My sister Mary Ann has some pictures - we will post them. I have a pic of me & my husband at the fun house on my refrig. The Fun House was a time in my life that I will NEVER forget. Thanks for the memories!!

Hey BettyBoop, I dont seem to see anything, I tried from a few different places and no problem. One thing it might be is www.djdynastymusic.com redirects to the actual site. Try www.musicv2.com/artist/djdynasty
    I hope that might help.
Thank you for listening, I knew there were people out there somewhere.

I have been trying to get on djdynasymusic.com again and for some reason the page is taking forever to load or doesn't load t all. So, if you happen to read this djdynasty please check out your site and post back here when its back up and running. It's a great site and I love listening to the old funhouse music but I was only able to hit your site once.
    Thanks

The Funhouse.....What can I say, we lived there from 81-85 when the NYC residents petitioned to have the club closed down. I guess all of us walking through the buildings to get to the train didn't help. However, in all my days of dancing and club going there will never be a place as good as the Funhouse. Me, Lorraine, Christine, Fran, Vicky, Ronnie, Jimmy from the Bay, Frankie Blue, Steve Skates, Lil Dina, Jimmy C, Marina, Gina & Lisa from S.I., Marlena, Louis & Anthony, Looney, Rob OZ, and wacky Denise too! All we knew is that we "gotta gotta get there". We didn't just hang, we danced our asses off till 8:30 the next day and if I might say, we rocked the house. Johhny Moe and Allie D were two of the coolest boucers I have ever met. We were a family! Jellybean, Tony Smith, Randy & Ricky....the best foursome ever combined. Ahhhh, and my main man Ronnie or shall I say my main gal pal. He looked out for me the most, I'll never forget sitting upfront with him at the entrance collecting passes, he either loved ya or not. I am so glad he loved me. I would die to see him again. I seen the reunion pics above with him in them, how times change, he isn't as flamboyant and he once was. But neither am I. I am happily married now with 3 beautiful kids and life now has different priorities. But, I would help arrange a reunion if it came to be. Advertising is the way to get the word out, radio (Paco & Joe Causi), ads, flyers etc. If there is a big response we could make it fly. I'm sure Joe Monk, Jerry, Angelo and Ronnie would get on board. Hey does anyone remember the Funhouse towels...My idea...Since lots of us used to head to Manhattan beach with our shirts I told Angelo the towels would be a hit. I still have my shirt and towel :) My best friend is still Lorraine and she has many pics of us at the Funhouse we'll try to upload them real soon!

I lived in Cobble Hill Brooklyn. I hung out with the cobble Hill, Carrol Gardens crowd. Those days were the best. I would die if I couldn't get there on any given Saturday. I went there every Saturday from 81-82. The music was the best. What I loved most was when they would turn off the music and close down only to turn on the lights, music and club all over again an hour later. It would be 5 in the morning and the club would begin again at 6 after everyone cleared out. I have great memories from back then. I grew up there in every way imaginable....hell, who didn't?

  • Scott Kaplan

Let’s see, where do I start....Many moons ago I started going to the Fun House. At first I would just go to hear the music and dance my a** off. As time passed, I made very good friends with most everyone of the guys in the booth, Tony, Jellybean, Randy, and Ricky.

Tony, Jellybean, Randy would take the turns on the tables and drive all of us wild. Randy was the best at the lights by far, as he made them dance to the music to the point bugga’s can still see the lights as the songs play in their heads. Ricky was notorious with the videos, especially the Karate videos as well as the x-rated cartoons, like Snow White and the 7 dwarfs.

Last Saturday’s reunion was a lot of fun Danny. It brought back some great old memories and faces from the past. I’ll be looking forward to the next one. To share the music with everyone and all to appreciate what we were listening to is priceless.

Which brings me to the subject of the Fun House Theme Song,
I agree with Mark that there is more than 1 Theme Song, as there were different era’s. Here are some of my choices,

Love is the Message, Give it up, Turn it Loose, Walking on Sunshine/Sunshine Party Time, Dancing in Outerspace, Bell Head, The Mexican.

  • Mark Bugger

Another great time at the 2nd Funhouse reunion!! Danny & Roe once again a tremendous job of hosting it. A concensus was taken at the reunion & as far as Funhouse theme songs go, there most definitely needs to be 2 categories:Pre-Jellybean & Jellybean. Most of us at the reunion were going to Funhouse religiously BEFORE Jellybean became the resident DJ. So we need to make that list in 2 parts. That is why there is a big difference in songs being chosen as the "Funhouse Theme Song".

There is going to be a Fun House Bugger reunion on 8/19. We have to make sure that only those of us who knew each other attend, mostly because this reunion is being held at someone's house.

If you went to the Funhouse with any of the people in the above pics that I sent in, then you're invited! They are:

Mark, Howie or Ann Bugger, Dean Greenbean/Stringbean, Danny Taz, Rusty, George from NJ, Timmy, Peter Freak, Darlene, Joey Do It, Theresa Tweety, Little Mary, Marie Tuna, Lisa Purple, Tina Punk Rock, Mimi, Ellen, Stacy Buckethead, Bobby MooMoo, Agueli, Joey Leto, Joey Pug, Dino, (and those who are hopefully dancing up a storm in heaven: Jimmy Dunne, Captain Kirk, Mama Jill, Christine Sizzler)

There will be a reunion in a club in the near future, hosted by Joe Monk & friends. Stay tuned!

Please don't be offended, I don't mean to sound crass, but you have to be careful, it is someone's home!

    Rock on!

(Sorry to those who I didn't name!)

My God, just found this site! I was blown away. Remember Madonna performing on stage, known only as JellyBean's girlfriend. Planet Rock, Native Love, AEIOU, etc... Me and the rest of the Funhouse Kickdancers battling for dance space on the floor near the stage against the Poppers, Breakdancers, Lofters, etc... It was me (Dancing Dave), Frankie Blue, Eugene, and who can forget Joey Comet...Al dressed in black sweats with Old English lettering on the sides, white socks, chinese sandals, headbands, etc... Oh and don't forget all my "Druggie" friends doing shotguns upstairs above us. You know Brooklyn Rocked to the Planet Rock back then!

    Hola!
I am so glad I found this website, it brought me back to when I was 16 and went to the funhouse for the first time in 1982. I was there every saturday, I lived in Jersey City then, so I took the PATH train to 23rd street and either cabbed it or walked to the club. It was funny, every time I walked in the club "Disco Circus" was always playing. It makes me sad that clubbing isn't what it uesed to be.....

  • Tuna

You can't ixney Beat the Clock. That was my THEME SONG! I never met a person who could shake faster than me (hence the Gyrating part of my name)! I probably rattled my brains back then. I actually can still do it! I'll show you on Aug. 19th! I can barely wait to see you guys!!!

Found this site a long time ago, wasn't much here but a few comments. Glad to see it grow and continue. I was and always will be a Jellybean fan. From his beginning playing parties at Lehman College in the Bronx and all the clubs till now. Was there for the raids, boy I miss the mellon balls. Still have the back from my denim jacket with the hand painted clown. So many memories so little space. Will be back more often and contribute more. And by the way...disco circus.

Hi Joey's and the rest of the forum and thanks for the props on the site, I hope the mixsets are up to par.I enjoy being amongst others keeping it alive.
    As for my opinion for
Fun House Theme Song has to be
    Martin Circus - Disco Circus
Out of the 2 original releases Between the Prelude 12" and the Full side version on the LP. I know the LP was the signature version played with the little laugh at the end of the break before the dumdum break. However another moment I have in my mind is I was on the balcony looking down to the left (main floor) and Kraftwerk - Home Computer was playing at the far end of the room by the bleachers the wall was mirrored and I was completely engulfed at the moment and remember saying to my friend WOW look at how big this place is but then realized I seen a guy wearing a football jersey by the center stage then looked further down the room what happened to be the mirror I see him again I was buggin out. Id like to get to talk more with you guys maybe exchange some obscure songs used that we can share info. How about
Raphael Cameron - Boogies Gonna Get Ya (inst)
    Yello - Bostich
Chocolate Milk - Whos Getting It Now (inst)

not for nuttin, but shame on all of ya . it may not have qualified as the "theme song" but if you did not bolt to the dance floor when you heard soul makosa by manu dibango makin it's way into the mix, the only legit excuse for you was a medically cinfirmed OD.

  • Ellen

    Hi Dean!!

G-D it was great seeing a picture of you! How's it hangin?? LOL.
Miss seeing your smiling face. Had some updates about you over the years from Danny and Tina, would love to see ya when u get to Bklyn. Looks like none of us are making this reunion after all. Maybe, if we postpone it, more people will get the word about it ( I only have known for the past 5 days). I spoke with Ronnie last night and I have talked him into coming.( now that it is canceled , go figure) Sh-t if we were not embarrassed of what we used to do, why the hell be embarrassed of what we are doing now!!!

As for me, I am married 18 years and have a 16 year old son starting college in 1 more year. Crap, he is just a year younger than I was when I started going out to the FunHouse. NO WAY am I letting him out of my eyesite!! LOLOL Nah, he is a great kid and a straight A student. Guess I didn't kill all my brain cells, whatever was left went to him! hahaha.
Heard about your accident. Don't know the details, but I am hoping that you are feeling better. As for me, I am half the time in a wheelchair and the other half with a cane. Seems that at 41 I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Living with it for 4 years now and still loose my mind when the music takes me back! AHHHH when I hear the music....G-D gives me my legs back for a bit and off I go.........
Email me if you want at BklynfromBx@aol.com we can catch up further if you like. You still need it....and I still got it!!!! LOLOL

  • Ellen

    Hi Everyone!!
I am looking forward to the reunion! Thanks for calling me Danny to let me know. Mark it was so great hearing your voice after all these years. No Maria, I am Ellen from the Bronx, that moved to Bklyn to be closer to my Funhouse friends. I used to hang out just foward of the clown face, or sometimes the front stage steps with Staci, Mimi and Tina Punk Rock. All time favorite FunHouse song...hands down Lovin Is Relly My Game, by Brainstorm!!! Also, Sing Sing, Sing, holds a special place in my heart. I think I was the only fool that went nuts on the dance floor for that song! LOL I am also a original FunHouse person, and do believe that there was life before JellyBean, and their names are Ted and Johnathan!!! Hope to see everyone at the reunion

  • DANNY TAZ

I guess you guys caught the spelling error-Ted Currear to Ted Currier. Sorry-LOL

  • DANNY TAZ

Yo buggers! Whats Happening? 4 more days till the Bugger reunion. Can't wait!!
Yo George! Did you fall off the face of the earth? Holla back! Love to talk to you before he reunion on Saurday. There are so many amazing Bugger songs it is so hard to come up with just one pick. But I am working on it. I have so many Bugger tapes from Jelly Bean and Ted currear that Marty made me when he was working for me. But they are tapes, I would love to have some CDs.

  • hbkathi

I vote for Standing in the Shadows of Love by Fever. That was real Jellybean.

  • hbkathi

Marie & Mark - I remember Annie cause - some of the guys I hung with would hang with them. Used to be Annie and Frannie?? Once I went to Sheepshead Bay Roller Palace to hang with them. As for the other pics - it looks like a girl named Charlene from Manhattan.
I am from Howard Beach. I remember Jimmy Bowling shoes doing the freak back stage. Indian girl ( had long braids) - Deputy of love was her song. - and some great dancer named Fernando. I use to date Jimbo . Use to hang with OZP guys. I have quite a few stories from 1979-1981. Remember Julie, Dina and Pammy from Queens??

  • DANNY TAZ

Hey Marie Tuna!! How the hell are you?! I still talk to a few buggers (too few). I MISS YOU ALL AND THE TIMES WE HAD!!! Since I've been on the FuNhOuSe site(thanks to Julie), she gave Mark Bugger my number. It has brought back so many great memories ( and I mean great) that I have never forgotten in 25 years and I will never ever forget until the day I die. They were the best days of our lives. I still can't believe how many of us buggers (real buggers) are still FuNhOuSe buggers. FUNHOUSE BUGGERS FOR LIFE UNTIL THE DAY WE DIE!!!!
I was at 7-11 today (5/22/06) and I saw someone who I though was you and I yelled out " Hey Tuna!". She turned around and looked at me like I was nuts! I guess it wasn't you.
Yes, I am definetly going to the reunion!! Can't wait to see you! How is Lisa Purple? Is she coming? Tell her I said hi and I miss her too. I speak to Ellen sometimes and I told I would bring her if she would go. I'm trying to talk Ronnie into going.
P.S- Are you going to wear your pink or black spandex pants? If you do, I might wear my black bikini bathing suit, black leather vest and of couse with my Chinese Sneakers with speed gum in one and ups in the other. LOL-haha
    See you Saturday

Joey Ghost I vote Crank it Up.

  • Hanging out in Manhattan

I've already voted but one song Jonathon Fearing played that no one has mentioned and I'm surprised that not even Mark mentioned and would be my second choice is MUSIC MAN.

  • JoeyGhost

or Is IT In for that matter dean, Mr. Fold-a-matic!

  • dean

see lots of great old songs, but i'm surprised nobody mentioned

    CRANK IT UP

  • JoeyGhost

being 43 puts me in with the baby boomers....but i didnt find the fhouse till 80 and went through 84

hip hop be bop came out in 82, so if u stopped goin in 81, u couldnt have heard it in the fUnHoUsE. It was electronic dance song (drum machines, synthetic hand claps, tom toms & dog barks along with catchy synth riffs....late jellybean era

  • Marie

I don't know the song "HIP HOP BE BOP". I went to the Funhouse EVERY Friday & Saturday from 1978-1981. Jonathan was the DJ when I started, Ted Currier followed him, then Jellybean came in. Mark & them went a bit longer than me. It could be we were there during different years (& that we're from different generations. I'm the last of the baby boomers and you're probably Generation X).

  • JoeyGhost

    PLEASE!!??

MARK BUGGER..........YOU MEAN TO TELL ME, WHEN "HIP HOP BE BOP" FROM MAN PARRISH CAME THROUGH THE SPEAKERS OF THE fUnHoUsE....YOU WERENT BARKIN LIKE A DOG?

HOW MANY OF U BUGGERS BARKED LIKE A DOG WHEN YOU HEARD "HIP HOP BE BOP" ?

    WOOF WOOF-WOOF WOOF

I think its fair to say u were more of the jonathing fearing type bugger...while i was only a jellybean bugger...in any event....
    LONG LIVE DA FuNhOuSe !!!!!!!!!!

  • Mark Bugger

No that is Joe-van, most of them were the crew from Astoria. hbkathi who are you?? Do I know you? Must if you knew Anne bugger b/c we hung tight in those days.

  • Marie

Hey hbkathi (whoever you are), yes, that is Anne Bugger in the 1st picture. The group before the pic of Jimmy Bugger (the pic where it looks like there's a ring of lights around him) is a Halloween pic, I didn't personally know the peeps in the pic, Mark does, I think it's Clara & her group. I don't know where they're from either. Mark???

Disco Circus by far should be the theme song of The Funhouse. I used to sneak out of the house to go there with several of my friends by cab when we were very under aged : ) I remember the cut off shirts with beads and bandannas . Boyfriends breakdancing in the center of circles , pure adrenaline...no club can ever compare to that 1......

  • Mark bugger

Ok this is a bugger alert!! Taking up a poll, how does Saturday July 8th sound?? Everyone thats up for a little reunion & if that date works please let Marie Tuna or Robin know. That gives us about 2 months to get in touch with everyone possible & organize something really nice. Robin's place sounds like the most practical as she has lots of room and is totally up for it. I'll try to get thru to Jellybean & see if he'll be in town. FYI, Jellybean does a house party at the Union Square Ballroom once a month, usually on Friday's. Send me your email addys and when I get the next invite I'll forward it to each of you. Stay in touch.

  • Mark bugger

Disco Circus, awesome tune! Stone fox chase, another goodie. Jingo, now THAT was a great one. But how early did you guys leave if those were your faves??? I NEVER left till the lights were on & the music stops, which was always sometime between 8-8:30am!! Now here's some Funhouse trivia for all of you: Who can name the last song Jonathan Fearing ever played?? hmmmmm, I know!!

  • JOEY I

It is very rare that I go against my Dear Bugger '' Joey Ghost '' so after intense pressure I will commit to Disco Circus as the theme song of the F.HOUSE.

Songs that also got me going were
JINGO, SUPERMAN, BOOGIE TO THE BOP, POINT ZERO,I NEED LOVE,BOSTICH, BEAT THE CLOCK.

Joey Monk, I remember when RUN DMC recorded '' HE WE GO '' Live.. If I am correct that was in 83.

Look forward to a club reunion.

  • JoeyGhost

if u cud only pik 1 (ONE, not 3 or 5 JUST ONE) funhouse song to represent the FuNhOuSe....what wud it be?

  • joe monk funhouse

THE FUN HOUSE HELD ONE NIGHT ABOUT 4000 KIDS WHEN RUN DMC WAS THERE REMEMBER THAT???

  • Mark bugger

Ahhh but so many tracks BEFORE the Jellybean era!
    1-Hills of Katmandu
    2-Megamix-Donna Summers
    3-Boogie City(Rock & Boogie Down)
    4-Dance it Freestyle
    5-Stubborn Kinda Fella
    6-Slow Down
    7-Music Man
    8-Walkin on Music
    9-Do you Wanna get Funky
    10-The Break
I could go on & on. Only the REAL buggers who were there with me until 8-8:30am would remember these. Remember walking out of there on a Sunday morning & thinking, "What are we gonna do all day?" What times!!!!

  • Joe Pasta

To all the Funhouse BUGGS,Who has a double copy of the FUNHOUSE Picture Disc willing to sell????

  • Dave The Rave

I got to say "Disco Circus". I remember when that song came on it was like the whole club did a line of "Blow" !!!! Hey does anyone remember "Dancing Is My Fantasty" by Freelife? That song might be a close 2nd.

  • Joe I

I think there will always be a debate as to the '' Funhouse theme song '' While most might agree it's Disco Circus or Native Love,I will go against the grain, and say that Action ''78'' was at the top,and right up there Stone Fox Chase.

  • Mark bugger

Those tunes like "Just Begun", "Confusion", Liquid Liquid are all from the Jellybean days and are awesome but the Funhouse was IT wayyyyyyyyyy before that!!!! BTW, for those of you who don't know, myself, Joey Do-it & a few others were summoned to the DJ booth when JB first started to kinda coach him on what to play. Talk about dedication!!!! We truly loved that place and wouldn't give up those days for anything in the world. Imagine if we could all go back for just one night??? HMMMMMMMMM

  • Mark bugger

I think legally the club held 1500 though on some nights there were probably a few more!! LOL Sorry for not getting back sooner but I've been kinda busy trying to buy a place. George I spoke to Buggy. And I still speak to Joey Do-it, Julie, Rusty & am still in contact with Jellybean. And as far as a Funhouse song it would have to be a song from the Jonathan Fearing era. I'm thinking along the lines of not only the music but what was going on there so for me it would be one of these 3:
    Hills of Katmandu by Tantra
    Slow Down by John Miles
Boogie City by Phil Hurtt or as most people knew the song as "Rock & Boogie Down"!!!! George I will give you a ring sometime middle of this week.

  • JoeCackleNYC

Does anyone remember the time, I think it was 1983 or 84 and the NYC police swat teams came in and raided the place? The house supposedly didnt have a liquor license or some crap but it was nuts. Muscis stopped it was chaos! It closed for a week and reopened w/o liquor. I remember buying a virgin melon ball. Oh man where did the yrs go?

  • funky g

Funky G from jersey city an the boyz jiggy jiggy jiggy jiggy get on down rock Da house

  • FLUIDNYC

    Robert Famous Camus OMG!!!

AVE L. Boys in da house!

  • george,nj

When Jellybean took over the wheels of steels at the Funhouse boogie city was hot!

  • Famous Camus

    Wow,
This site rocks! Robert Famous Camus here, there will never ever be another Funhouse. I still DJ to this day doing clubs and parties because of how the Funhouse had an impact on me. The best train ride was the LL from Canarsie to 14th. street. The worst was coming home with no money, jumping the turnstyle and getting caught like once a month. The roach clip feathers hanging from my sweatpants, my cut off Funhouse shirt, showing my stomach for all the girls to see! (I couldn't do that now) Jellybean dropping in has soundbite.....JJJJJJJJJJJellybean over the music, I think Paco from KTU did it for him.
Imagine a song like Stone Fox Chase today! They would have to have 50 Cent and Funkmaster Flex come into the studio and do a remix - how tragic would that be!!!!!! We never stopped dancing. Ever!!
You walked in dancing, and left dancing on 26th street in the morning.
Its too bad Jellybean, Madonna or any other track acts never utter a word about the Funhouse helping launch their career!!!!!!!!! Thats really a shame. Everything is about Studio 54, because the "stars" went there to be seen. But the real stars, the real energy was created by the faithful, all of us. And if you are reading this you were one of the faithful. When the Funhouse lost their liquor licence, it diddnt matter. The club was packed. See if that happens today, I dont think so. All that mattered was being there. We all looked the same, dressed the same. Some people got high, some of us just danced for hours. It diddnt matter there was no trouble, no attitude at the door, no nonsense like today. We were just hanging out, being ourselves. We were the Funhouse Buggers. Where has the time gone? I've been for years thinking about a reunion, somewhere in Manhattan. If is sounds like a cool idea, or if you remember the Canarsie Crew...
    Brooklyn Rocks the House!!!!!!!!!!!
Wake up Madonna & Jellybean -
Give the Funhouse a little Love!!!!!!!!!!!

  • BIG STICK

Spent a lot of time at the FUNHOUSE, hangin' in the DJ booth with Ted Currier. Ya know what the "big hit" on the FUNHOUSE dancefloor was at that time, don't ya?.... It was "BEAT THE CLOCK" by SPARKS. That was the track that got everyone dancin' in madness... Those were some good times fer sure, baby!

  • george,nj

remeber all the dance craz the webo the breaker the dirty rocker an the freestyler to all that great music jingo point zero dance fantasy wishbone hill of katmandu underwater forgetaboutit

  • Christine

I can't believe I found this site looking for Frances Joli! I wanted to see if she is still performing. What great memories of the Fun House. My dad painted the place for Joe Monk. Joe was(is)a great guy. My sister, Lisa, and I used to dance in the mirrors in front of the clown face every Saturday nite from 1979-80. Thanks for the memories! 1/14/06

  • crazy george

remeber the night the cop's raided the place an all of us had to go to the police station an got summons to go to court

  • Marie (Tuna)

Before I fell in with the Fun House Buggers, I was shaking & gyrating on the middle stage with Lisa Purple. There was a guy standing down on the ground wearing a black t-shirt that said... "Shake for me girl" (of course the back said "I wanna be your backdoor man" but that part wasn't the lure). I knew he wore that shirt to attract my attention. Of course, schmuck that I was, I went for the bait. I started seeing him. I was already seeing someone I was totally into, a GORGEOUS guy named Kenny. Tshirt guy found out who he was, saw him at Fun House and beat the crap out of him. I dumped Tshirt guy & Kenny dumped me. I always wondered about Kenny. HE WAS THE ONE WHO GAVE ME THE TUNA FISH TSHIRT THAT GAVE ME MY NAME. I know he never knew that. (I used to ask every guy I dated to give me one of their Tshirts.) The irony of it all!

The Funhouse photos below were kindly submitted by Marie (Tuna):

  • John

I know exactly what you mean Robin. Things are quite different for me as well as I guess they are for most of us. Glad to hear you have a family and are well. And yes I do remember you. If anybody has any of the old bumper stickers or T-shirts let me know. I would love to get one. I used to have some old photos from one Halloween when Ronnie was "all dressed up" and I think it was Sylvester who played. Lots of the original buggers were in them. I will try to find them and post them here.

  • Robin

Yes, thats me the blond in the middle of the bar. I used to sell tickests too as well as bartend! Can't believe u remember me! I gotta tell ya those days were so care free to me and now everything is sooo sooooooo different! There will never be another time like it.

  • John

Hello to all my old Fun House friends. Glad many of you seem to be doing well. Mark Bugger....how are you??? Howie I remember you as well. And Robin....I think you were the beautiful blonde bar tender that worked the middle area of the bar near where they sold those tickets. I started my Saturday nites checking in with you for my Alabama Slammer or Iced Tea. I remember Dean's van and winding up at Marine Park or Manhatten Beach. Wow was that one nite or two. So hazy now. Sorry to hear about Jill. She used to call me Baby Bugger so maybe some of you will remember me. Joey Do It, where are you? This site isn't complete without you. Jimmy Whitestone or Bowling shoes...Joe Monk, Gerry, Ronnie, glad you are all seemingly doing well. Tina Punk Rock and gyrating Tuna too.I am all in for the reunion. Great times and memories. Angelo and the hot dog cart. He used to let me park right in front of the door no matter when I arrived. Yes I remember Mr. T in the house, Sly in the house, Madonna hanging out with us.....We were raving before anybody knew what raving was. I'd love to hear from any of you and just remember those wild times. This is just to cool. Wish I could say see you Saturday nite just once more. John

It is so funny how many people do a search on the word "Funhouse" and stumble upon this website. Thank you for dedicating this website to the Funhouse.

  • ARTIE

The Fun House had to be where the saying anything goes was originated. You had to be a part of it to understand. I remember gettin' there a 10/11pm & leaving @ 7/8am. The things that went on between those hrs.

Are all mentioned already by the the some of the truest buggers that i can remember...Lee botz who went on & became lee botix,,,alfonse (soz) & many...@ 14/15 Trs old i had no business being @ 526w 26th street,,but i tell ya,,some how i made it there,,w/my sweatpants pulled up to my knees chinese slippers w/the white cloth bottoms, shoe lace tied around my head & of course a fun house shirt...My boy mike would have a lil bag w/hairspray & others things to gettem' through the night.

Center stage wuz the place ,,,there is where you found a mix of oz,rosedale, brooklyn & jersey ,,,im sure you all remember who rocked the house though,,anyway keep the reminders coming,,, fir obvious reasons we may need a lil help remembering.

I can't believe this either. I remember so many of you. Just out of the blue searched The Fun House and bam. I was one of the originals and spent every Saturday night at the place for over 3 years. I remember spinning around the center stage in the cut off T-shirts dancing non stop for hours. Many of these comments brought back so many memories. It all started coming back. When I read some of the names I started remembering who they were. We had great times and memories. The raves and stuff they have today cannot compare to how we partied. Nobody partied harder than us... not then, not now. We will all have that distinction.

WOW... I remember those days.. I was part of the juice crew and Rockers revenge. We owned the back stage where we battle anyone who tried to take our stage. Remember Chino, Bryant, New York city breakers. Sammy who used to worked for Angelo in his hotdog truck, Rat from jersey .I remember I stayed in his basement the whole winter and we used to go the Jersey clubs and battle anyone!!!. What a time that was. Ball Busters for life!!!!

I was the tall Puertorican kid upstairs with the big rope chain serving everything you wanted.

I used run to the dance floor everytime sex machine used to come on to uprock with anybody that wanted to battle.

The Fun House will forever be the place where you did whatever you wanted. No club cant compare to those dayz!!!!

If anyone was part of the back stage.
    B-boyz...Holla back.
