CLUB DETAILS, MEMORIES, YEARS IN OPERATION & TECHNICAL DETAILS
Below is a promo for the club Visage from the NY Times. The club was opulent and looked like a combo of Star Trek and over the top futuristic Vegas casino. Good Djs with dance and New Wave hits. I'm sure others can supply more info.

About as far west as one can go in Manhattan, in an area once known as Hell's Kitchen, a former stable and a garage have been joined and are being converted into an opulent nightspot that features an indoor diving pool and ice rink as part of the cabaret's entertainment scene.

Frank Lynch, a Scotsman who owns and operates nightclubs throughout the United Kingdom, said he chose the buildings, which sit back-to-back on West 55th and 56th streets between 11th and 12th Avenues, for his first New York venture because of their reasonable rents and spacious interiors: The combined footage of the two-level horse stable and one-story garage is more than 26,000 square feet. Mr. Lynch has a 20-year lease with the owners of each building with an option to renew or buy the property.

Mr. Lynch is putting $3 million on the conversion of the buildings. Edumund Smith, a Glasgow designer, is transforming the space with an elaborate lighting system featuring a ceiling embedded with tiny lights for a starlight effect, multilevel banquette seating, furniture and fixtures faced in pink marble, five bars and a stage that rises and lowers as the club's entertainers perform.

When completed the club, to be known as Visage, will have its main entrance at 610 West 56th Street. The opening is planned for the middle of next month.

I loved the club. It was definitely different with the skaters and the mermaid on the swing. I also remember hearing that the club was used for an episode of "Miami Vice". I always watched that show before heading out to NYC to party.

I was the bartender at Visage that used to flip bottles. What a great job that was! I had a lot of fun there. I was a gorgeous place. Wish I could see pictures from back in the day!

Owen, I would love any pictures you have of Visage. And yes, there was a mermaid or swim show. Either the ice skating floor opened up into a dive pool, or the dive pool was elsewheres, and water show of about ten or fifteen minutes happened -- and it was a happening. How the heck those swimmers were able to do what they did in that small a swimming area is beyond me. It was like dolphins swimming in a backyard kids wading pool performing a full Sea World routine, it was amazing. Boy, do I miss Visage, no other club like it since or still. Like they say: "The good die young," this club was only around for two years.

Did Visage have a mermaid tank with live, scantily-clad mermaids? If so, does anyone have a photo of the mermaids. I good friend of mine mentioned she was a mermaid at a club called Visage.

Happened to come across this site in a random search. I was the club's original publicist and handled the opening. It was quite a wild time and other commentators are right Visage was a beautifully (and expensively) decorated club and the owner Frank Lynch was an angel compared to other nightlife promoters I had worked with. Nice to see the club remembered If you like I can search my files for some visuals and send them along.

I remember going to Visage and meeting Charles Bronsen at the bar . He was buying rounds for everyone ! The ice show was great , the dancers were dressed like lizards I remember how small the ice was .
The small pool would have a a girl on a swing dive in .
    Great Place !

Visage was a beautiful, classy club. I remember the ice skating show, and the divers. It was incredible, what these folks were able to do in such small spaces. Unlike one of the folks above, I never experienced a down, or violent moment at Visage. The vibe was more European than New York, as was the style of dress. Great music. I am amazed that it only had a two year run. Visage definitely left a lasting impression on me, and on anyone who ever went there. These club owners made a mistake in closing Visage so soon, it could have gone much longer.

Went there New Years Eve in 1984-85 with my then husband and a few other couples. Gloria Gaynor headlined. It was very expensive and when we arrived by limo the doorman got into a fight with our driver and started punching him. Got fairly hammered that night.

I remember going to Visage and seeing Eddie Murphy. He just stared at me up and down. I also remember the ice skaters. It was a classy club.

One of the few clubs we did out of Miami. The system was completely concealed....consisted of 8 Meyer UPA's...2 x 650's...4x USW. It had a small pool we put Lubell Labs underwater speakers in...and would have underwater dancers in it.
After a very sucessful 2 year run...the owners felt they should change formats while the club was still hot...and the last nite they were open they passed out sledge hammers & the place was reduced to rubble. The bars were made from pink Norwegian marble...which was sent to Italy for finishing. There were only chunks left. The new club was all dark...blue & grey...the theme was "stranded on an asteroid ". it flopped
