Chaz was a lot of fun. I haven't talked to Manny in a while. We were real tight at one time. I think there was some confusion regarding my employment at Chaz. I was the lightman. I learned how to dj through Manny, Al and Steve Thompson. I also from time to time deejayed at Zanzibar and Down Under which became Riff's. Some of the most fun I've had in my life was the club scene. Does anyone remember Sach opening Chaz after it closed for the private parties. Hey Manny remember the laughs at White Castle telling jokes?

  • Christine

Ahhh Chaz! I drove from the city to Chaz for Thursday nights! The music and the mix was always right on!

Funny! I lived in Huntington for a while 10 years later and owned a business right there on Jericho and 110. I would always think about Chaz and the fun!

  • al magliano

great to see how many people loved Chaz--I was the DJ-AL

  • Lee

I loved Chaz. I went there every Friday night 1978-1981. My high school used to hang out there. I would go with my best friend Lisa. We went to HHHHSEast. Graduating in 1981.I have wonderful fun memories of Chaz. I remember Joey one of the bartenders.Fun dancing in those days. Good drinks.

  • DJ Scat ( Don Scaturro)

Rt 109 and Southern State Parkway were definately off the beaten path during the disco dance era of the late 1970's and 80's, but I also have great memories of an Island like atmosphere at ANVINES, (Hollywood Anvines). Swiming pool, hot tubs and a Sunday afternoon party that topped all. Roast Pig, ladies in bikinis and mink stole givaways for the best swimwear. The lady with the hat, Rory, the club's manager, made sure that everything ran like a fine tooth comb. Fun was had by all. I had the opportunity to spin records there for two summer seasons(Hot tub after hours anyone??)

Musique did perform at Chaz--That was me with the girls in the office at Chaz the night they performed. I was the dj.

I also frequented Chaz on rare
occasions. For us it was really
too far of a ride out west into
Nassau County to go to every weekend.
We all lived in Eastern Suffolk and
    *shorter* rides while being slightly
    impaired,... were more desirable.
Besides that the Suffolk cops were
so over paid that they were big on
pulling over folks. (needed that extra
summons fine moneys to pay their
    over-inflated salaries and buy fancy
    furniture for the judges chambers!)

Chaz was an OK place but it didn't stand out as much as Macarthurs.
I also doubt that Chaz had live
    entertainment such as Musique.
    Musique appeared at the Treehouse
    in Smithtown one night.
"Push Push, in the bush!" YEAH!
(We all know what that song was
    about,...right?)

Sorry for the screwy post. Here's what it should've said:

Chaz was one of the consummate clubs of it's day and I had been to many so I knew what a good club should be like. Finally Long Island had a big city club. From my times spent as a dancer there, I was able to crosstrain as a DJ (off hours in the club with Manny) to have a career and be one of the first american DJs to grace Hong Kong, helping set the standard for american dance music. I knew Al from college as we both came from Brooklyn before I moved out to the Island so it came as a surprise to see him drive all the way from Canarsie and come out to Huntington. I got to meet some good people there - Manny, Steve Thompson, Phil Silverman, Carmine, get a good education of what dance music was and had a great time throughout.

Peace and love to all :)

CHAZ was the greatest. there almost every fri and sat nite, withnthe whole gang. If we could only turn back the hands of time.

  • Karen

I won a dance contest there one night. I danced in the same type of "sateen" shorts the girls on the Musique album cover wore. My partner was a gay Oriental guy who I foolishly tried to "convert!" I was a regular there and was close to one of the DJs (can't remember his name; he was African American).

I had some great times there to bad there arent any more great clubs like that. I would love to step back in time and spend another night there. Oh well

I worked at Columbus Jeans up in Huntington village then and I always listened to the 92 min lunch break I only wished that I had taped some of them

I'm glad to see that someone still rembers
