Odyssey a.k.a. Odyssey1 Disco was an under 18 bar and huge Disco. Lots of fun with DJ Chuck E Starr.
I used to go there with Ina Liberace (Liberace's neice) and later she met her friend Kristy McNichol there. We used to try and freak out straight girls who were there with there gay boyfriends. One time Elton John came in. Always packed with hot people. Toni Basil used to practice dancing there.

Description: (1981-1982) We may have won the award for driving the most miles to DANCE at the Odyssey 1 and then drive all the way back home, to SAN DIEGO. And we did not do drugs, nearly crashed every time due to falling asleep in the car. Linda and I brought (Soft Cell) Alex to our little club in Escondido and made him dance to his infamous song and let's just say mouths were hanging open and all dancers froze, what a fun night! Getting ready to go see my dandy highwayman, Adam soon. Loving the '80s!

Feb 03, 2012 | 4:58 pmWhat a great site. Oh my gosh, I loved Odyssey. I used to sell Quaaludes to Tommy Lasorda's son who back in 1977 drove a pink Caddy Seville. I bought so much silly jewelry upstairs. I was only 17 but loved those days. I first started going to the Other Side on Highland in 1974. I went home with the owner and slept at this house and my parents had to come pick me up at his house. Lovely since I was only 14. I loved the Paradise Ballroom, Gino's and so many others. At 51 today, I think back and am so blessed. I still see Richard Lindemann periodically. He and I went to junior high together in the mid 1970's in Long Beach. He used to call me f***** in school. Hated him then, but adore him now. I miss the old days and thank G-d I am alive today to see a great website like this

Jan 22, 2012 | 11:05 amThis is for Jerry Goldberg if you read this I wanted to say I worked with Kevin Parr at the Outer Limits before the Other side and Odyssey in the mid 70s but later in the 90s I worked with Kevin Parr at Walt Disney World in Orlando Fl I can still remember the day I saw him at Disney I could not believe I was seeing him and working with him no less we talked for hours and many times after that about Hollywood I had no idea he was working too at Disney until that day and we had both been at Disney for a long time already by that time Kevin passed away since I was at his bedside when he passed we talked more about the good times of Hollywood again those last days he was a good friend

Jan 21, 2012 | 11:31 pmWas it Tony Basil or Tony Petrillo that went by the nickname "Tono", or "Tonyo" or? Who remembers? And how can I reach him? (he was tall, about 6'2" -6'4" I think) liked a kid named J.J.(Jeff or Jeffrey Jones) from Orange County.
-
Jan 21, 2012 | 9:33 pmI lived in North Hollywood in 1974/75 I was not even 21 yet so I went to the Outer limits in North Hollywood as it was also an under 21 "Chicken Bar "my best friend from NJ who I moved to LA with the summer of 74 was the Manager of the Outer Limits I was a skinny long blonde hair /blue eye and tan and was called Surfer boy by one of the owners Al Law my friend and I lived off Lankershim Blvd with Al and his boys in an Apt and he drove us around that summer in his brand new 1974 silver Lincoln Mark III it had a sunroof and red velor seats that I will never forget we cruised Hollywood Blvd past the Gold Cup on the Blvd and around the corner on Selma where all the boys hung out Al loved to have us boys riding in the Lincoln with him and we loved it too!!! I worked the juice bar sometimes wearing short short white gym shorts and Outer Limit shirts supplied by Al one of the songs on the Jute box was Dirty old man it said Dirty OL man in ink on the song name plate I loved that club it was packed almost every night later that year the owners Al Law and Scott Harvey and Chris opened the Other side in Hollywood across the street from Paradise Ballroom the flyer read for the Grand Opening WHY DID THE CHICKEN CROSS THE STREET? to get to the Other Side!!! another "Chicken bar" it was an awsum Club

Sep 28, 2011 | 3:07 amI went to odyesey the last two years it was open 2 nights a week. I first want to say i had a crush on the Pleasure Boys. They loved to do their back to back act trading positions to Cee Farrow's Should I love you. still can see that widel black hat with rinestones string. If J-Shuggs... (Jason Sugars - Pleasure Boys - Left Podium - 1981-85) please contact me. ( google Lance Christopher Hair)
I was not quite out of closet and was not shure about being gay. I was very interested in all these guys with eyeliner on. Like pleasure Boys, there were several people known for the sign language acts they did on podium likje Pleasure Boys.
One act was The Chauffer Song (forgot her name) She was 86 out of club because she stripped to the Durran Duran song.
another act was Alexis Arquette would do the sign language dance to Eurthmics.
When the songs would start there was a quick flurry of the kids known for the song to do there thing on the podium especially the left one.
The lighting on floor was really kool it would come down like a column and you need to move away since it came down from cieling.
The lingerie look came in all the girls would sit on stage and show there lingerie off.
The well known drag queen would walk in late in evening Michael Angelo ( really willd look.
There was some really good sign language dancer (dont know name) to Nina Hagen song.
Basically the sign language dancing was really big There.
I was picketin infront of club when they closed it down.
I came about 9 months after it closed and had a fire already. I snook in with the girl i mention earlier who got 86 for Chauffer Song. I took apart of the Pin Ball game and some Oyssey blue paper cups just for memory.
Never forget the night the screen came down and showed Madonna Video like a Virgin first time. Every one stopped dancing almost to watch.
Everyone thought it was the house behind club that got club closed.

Sep 23, 2011 | 6:23 pmDoes anyone who hung out at Odyssey remember Maigus? He used to dance/walk around with a teddybear?
A flood of memories are coming up.....

Sep 18, 2011 | 11:43 pmI remember back in the day we used to go to odyssey on wednesdays. It was the best night in town. We used to drive from Redondo Beach all the way to hollywood wearing white jeans, german army tank tops, mascara and djarum clove cigaretts. Dancing to Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Vanity 6 Nasty Girl. This girl would go on to the podium and dance like she was Vanity. I saw Tony Basil there one night. They would sell rush at the counter upstairs. The fire pits outside at the patio. There was a room filled with pilows upstairs pretty dark where everything would take place... then came 321 an all teen club. I miss Odyssey. It was the best club in LA back in the 80s

May 07, 2011 | 6:19 amI was 18 when I first went to Odyssey in LA. Wow it was a lot of fun... I closed it a few times, all night. I remember seeing many interesting people there. Got hired for Studio 55 there. Lots of Movie and music industry people. Cool place after hours, it would pack up!! Great sound and lights... Good times......
Nick the door guy was so cool.... Macho Man, he used to smile when they played it.

Apr 14, 2011 | 5:34 pmIf any of you want to see rare video footage of the Odyssey, click the link below. They are from Odyssey's 1981 Halloween Party. This is part 1 of 6. When done, you can easily click on the other parts on YouTube. A great big thank you to Chuck E. who provided these. I wasn't there that night, but I recognize lots of friends and familiar faces... Enjoy.

Dec 27, 2010 | 2:12 amHi All! I was known as 'Scotty' when I worked there from spring 84 to the closing and burning in 85. Worked as bus boy and that back bar area near Fat Pat, and sometimes coatcheck pr the front bar when Danny needed a break.
Just wanted to add that I'm AMAZED this page exists! It's just blown me away! I had to start looking up some of the old music we use to dance to when Chucky was spinning and I was there as a patron with my best friend Timmy and crew (Sing Blue Silver is going at the moment).
Oh, by the way, the club burned down the second (and final) time shortly after the closure, in early 1985.

Dec 10, 2010 | 9:19 pmI can't believe this site, brought back some amazing memories,
the best time of my life, I remember everyone, Odyssey was the best night club.
I went dancing here every f(*%&( night.
I close my eyes and I see everyone dancing on a Tuesday night when all the locals came and hang out.
who can forget the TV room upstairs and the patio in the back.
Hey Jason, you used to jam on the dance floor.
remember Nathan and block head Steve.
Wow, I wish I can go back in time

May 02, 2010 | 2:56 pmHey everyone! First let me clear up a few things the Odyssey One NEVER had a Girl DJ, And Scott and Chris bought the Paradise Ball Room and called it 836 North across the street from The Other Side. Does anyone remember the dance contest I won at the Other Side as "Tammy Tampon" from your local Kotex Dispenser??
Anyway good to know this site is back and running, I am off to the Sunset Strip for a night of fun and dancing!! Later!

Apr 05, 2010 | 8:43 pmJust read a bunch of this line. I went to Odyssey in High School 1982-83 basically from my sophomore year through to my junior year and then I had to hit the books to graduate so I stopped going but later returned with Jeff for the closing which was not much fun at all.
I remember Stacy Myers, and Alison Fox, and I met Karen much later after Odyssey was over. You Karen were cute too but I was a little afraid of you. My friend Jeff was obsessed with all things Alison and we would visit her at South Coast Plaza and even went to the Whiskey? with her and Karen, I drove and again this was much later when I was 18.
Stacy Myers was so sweet to me and used to eat the candy off my necklace lol she was a big flirt and a great dancer. She even gave me her phone number but gosh I didn't have a car back then and I was gay so why would I call? I remember Robert/roberta arquette (he was so cute) but I wasn't his type.
Why did all the girls like me, I think I had two girl friends at the same time there but I was gay and it was awkward. I have to shout out to ROD from Laguna who picked me up in mission viejo so many times and never asked for a penny.
Well, I'm on Facebook if anyone wants to reconnect. I live in NYC with my husband, an artist who is very cool. Odyssey was the best! I feel so lucky to have been a small part of it all. They should make a movie about it or something.
Karen, thanks for being you. I've enjoyed reading all your comments. So Alison still talks like a baby lol?! Jeff I miss you.

Mar 30, 2010 | 12:30 pmWhat ever happened to that guy that wore the Adam and the Ants "stand and Deliver costume and danced to it on the podium every time it came on??..I think he used to hang out with the two Lisa's and Alex Soft Cell...

Mar 09, 2010 | 6:53 pmIt would be great if people who are new to the site could state the years they went there. It would help in determining if there are lost connections with people.
-
Mar 09, 2010 | 11:52 amJust got this link. So cool to see all the picks. Odyssey1 was the best, and weirdly it is because of odyssey1 that I am the person I am today because it allowed me to express myself. Where else could a 15 dance the night away? Hello to sandi and nancy park, trisha, jeffrey, debbie, stacy and alison, and most importantly Rod who drove me there so many times I could't thank him enough. Gosh this is a very cool site.

Feb 07, 2010 | 8:00 pmI remember leaving San Francisco on a Thursday night and driving straight to LA in my 1979 Trans Am with a T-top (9miles to gallon!) with my friend Steve and we drove straight to the Odyssey becauase he did not have a fake ID, can u imagine? Anyway it was not so cool, since I was already used to the major nightclubs in San Francisco and I wanted to hit The Jungle (?) and Greg's Blue Dot, but Steve couldn't get in! I guess my favorite part of hanging out at the Odyssey was being able to shop and buy gold jewelry in the club! ONLY in LA.....AWESOME!! ciao 4 now
-
Feb 02, 2010 | 10:20 pmOkay, first of all HI ALL! This page sent me wheeling into the past! I found myself up on the left side podium dancing to "the man with the four way hips"! I was one of the many OC boys that did anything and everything to get to the Odyssey. If I'm right the Karen Allison and Tracy that I've read alot about on here were all from Orange County? Karen had black hair, Tracy thought she was Marilyn and Allisons mid drift was always exposed. I dated Dead Todd briefly and eventualy moved to Hollywood to pursue my music career. I still crave those days at the Odyssey, it really was a magic time. If there will ever be another reunion I'd love to be notified!

Jan 12, 2010 | 12:05 pmI lost contact with Nina Delmar when I moved to the east coast in 1983. He was a cute boy. I always enjoyed him on the stage, very professional, did great sally bowles from caberet, I hope you can find out more about hime and his where abouts.....
-
Jan 12, 2010 | 10:42 amI remember Nina Del Mar. She performed with the Cover Boys around Souther CA. There was Nina, Tandy and a third who's name escapes me at the time. They performed at a club called Scene One in West Covina every Saturday for a while. His name was Octavio. He was cute as a boy too. I've often wondered what every happened to all of them. I'll see what I can find out.
-
Jan 12, 2010 | 9:10 amDoes anyone remember a beautiful drag queen by the name of "NINA DELMAR"? his boy name was Octavian or octovia. Is he still around? Great performer.
-
Jan 07, 2010 | 6:39 pmAmazing the stories and memories... I was friends with Scott and his brother before they did Oddessy... I met them when they had a club in 1971 in Garden Grove, CA. I went on to DJ the Endup in SF in 1974 on and off through 1981. LA DJ Garry Otto used to tell me of Scott and Chris and all the news. Gary sold me his turn tables when I moved back to LA, I still have his mixer and a set of the quad system processors from the Endup sound system.

-
Dec 08, 2009 | 10:35 amI do remember when Odyssey burned down Peanuts crowd suddenly increased tenfold. Since Myself, Michael Angelo and Viva were doing a show there it really helped us out.
-
Dec 06, 2009 | 9:10 amOh wow Jerry. Parallel lives! I thought I was the only one who remembered Flip. I also remember when Drakes Adult Shop on Melrose was a little one room magazine and novelty store that had a cheap western look to it. The back maze room was the orgy room. Melrose wasn’t as “corporate” as it is now. I remember a place on La Cienega called “Beauty and the Beast.” I met this guy that worked there. It was a salon for you AND your pet. I remember he looked like John Waite, the lead singer of The Babys.
My friends and I would have dinner at the Melting Pot on Melrose and La Cienega, then head to Odyssey to dance. What fun times.

Dec 06, 2009 | 7:44 amI haven't seen a post here in awhile.. I first went to the Odyssey in 1978 when I was 15 1/2. I went with a friend who could drive.. "San Francisco/Hollywood" by The Village People" was playing as we entered and it was so exciting.. I met my first boyfriend there that night.. He was 23. Odyssey became my home away from home over the next 5 years... I would go there up to 4x/week..once New Wave nights began.. So many stories to recount... I don't remember alot of the people writing in above.. I was from Woodland Hills and alot of my Odyssey friends were from Whittier. I also hung out with the American Bandstand crowd. I did date Robbie Harper for a few weeks. I know sometime later he moved to New York and became an underwear/swimwear designer. There was never any place like the Odyssey, nor has there been any place like it since...
I dated one of the bar managers (Lee?) and one of the bar tenders (upstairs front... blonde Steven?). I also hung with Kevin Parr, who worked at the Odyssey and later managed Phases in the Valley. The parties/orgies at his house were a blast...
Back at Odyssey, one night while making out with my first boyfriend in his Oldsmobile Delta 88 in the budget rent-a-car parking lot...this is pre- Beverly Center.. a police helicopter hovered over us shined the bright beam down on our car and about 10 police cars pulled up with guns drawn... they claim that the car place was robbed the night before..but it really smelled of harassment from the cops. The cops would also chase us from the alley behind the Odyssey when we were making out and doing more. They would ask us, "Does your mother know what type of place you are going to?" But we were a bit disrespectful to the neighborhood residents...not directly...but how many late night drinking binges and carrying on on Alfred St. to all hours...
And the clothes... yes.. the Judy's guy dept., Camp Beverly Hills and Fiorucci... then Flip on Melrose and any untapped thrift store in the LA area. Coke and Ludes were the drugs of choice and of course...too much alcohol..bought for us by sympathetic passers by. Odyssey lost it's appeal once word got out into mainstream LA.. I knew it was over when people from my high school started showing up...... It burned down shortly there after.
But in it's day... the great music, the dances (time warp, rock lobster), the decadence (watching yourself in the mirror, dancing in your underwear, fan and flag dancers, teenage friends showing off their new fur coats bought by their sugar daddies)and of course...all the pretty boys... I danced at Odyssey 1 and miss it.. Best, Jerry Goldberg

Nov 14, 2009 | 9:04 pmRe: "Mysterious" club burnings. Wasn't the notorious "Eddie Nash" (Wonderland Murders) the actual owner or silent partner of all these clubs? I'm pretty sure that he was.
-
Nov 11, 2009 | 6:36 amWow, I see a pattern here with their clubs. DUM DUM DUUUUUUUUM (Mystery music).
I also was at the Odyssey from 76 till around 1980 or 81. If you look back on the comments, there are pics of me back then. We might have met.
-
Nov 10, 2009 | 9:23 pmThanks, Peter.
I was at the Odyssey from day-one (1975/1976 from what I recall) till 1979/1980. I followed everyone over from the old Sugar Shack/Outer Limits out in North Hollywood.
I should probably be consistent here. My original post here on this board was under the name "BlueEyes," back in July, 2008.
Does anyone else remember "The Other Side" over on Highland Ave across from the Paradise Ballroom? I think Scott Harvey and Chris Cox also owned that place as well. But like the Odyssey ,it too burned to the ground.
//Gary
-
Nov 10, 2009 | 7:13 pmHey Gary. Welcome back. What years were you at the Odyssey?
-
Nov 10, 2009 | 3:18 pmI'm also very happy that this site was allowed to make a comeback. I also remember when my best friend's (female) husband (a nordic cutie) wanted to tag along with me one night. I explained that that if any guys tried to hit on him (who could blame them?), to just say he's with me and to come over and take my arm. He laughed with an 'as if.' Well, 5 minutes later I felt this tugging on my arm. It was priceless.
I'd really be interested in any reunion plans or get-togethers (I hear one might happen next summer?). Can someone tell me to whom I need to send contact information to?
//Gary

Nov 05, 2009 | 6:52 amWow, I had no idea that the Odyssey ever had a female DJ. Very cool. What was her name?
-
Nov 05, 2009 | 1:22 amMy sister used to be Michaelangelo's regular dance partner, she also DJ'd at the Odyssey for a few years. My girlfriends and I would come up to Hollywood from the South Bay and meet them at Michaelangel's house. He got such a kick out of "fixing" us up before we'd go to Odyssey or Circus with them. He'd put our hair up in "chunga's" and lend us accessories so we didn't look so "tired" as he'd say -- "Now you're peein!" lol fun times

Probe became packed 4 the men on saturday and whispers on wednesday for the women. friday nite they called it Ice-I would dance with sex drawf alex till closing but it was a pretty straight club. peanuts always kept up a good crowd for everyone. we ended up following the pro dance ciruet which included Toni b,Brono taco so many to name plus hanging out at Viola n Tramps in the beverly center.

Glad to see so many survived the O. Rodney told me about it and I should have spent more time there; but I was already in my late 20’s and felt a little out of place as I was neither into guys nor jail bait.<br />
<br />
But the girls were amazing!<br />
<br />
Here’s a few points :<br />
<br />
Sarenia Marie was not the model for the original Rodney On The Roq record even though she was a crypto girlfriend of Rodney’s at the time. The actual model’s name was Annie Horowitz. What happened was that Sarenia Marie adopted the exact style used and passed herself off as the model. Now for Volume 2, that is Sarenia Marie in her own bedroom and she makes an appearance on the cover of Volume III as well, along with the actress Olivia Barash and Stann Findelle’s girlfriend Debbie (?) Gregory.<br />
<br />
The first time I went to the O, a very nice pre-op tranny whose real name was Robert befriended me and made me feel welcome. I remember visiting his apartment in a block up on Sunset near Crescent Heights. But that wasn’t my scene.<br />
<br />
There was a girl from the Valley, possibly Van Nuys, <br />
who did spend an afternoon with me in an awful motel room on Sepulveda. She usually hung out with the gay boys. 30 years later I am almost positive that she was CAIS. If she remembers me and reads this, would love to hear from her.<br />
<br />
Oh, there was also a great dancer Christopher Lawrence whom I had taught as a substitute teacher in Pasadena. I think he ended up with David Geffen, possibly before another guy I came to know, Steve Antin.<br />
<br />
I am on Facebook and you are welcome to touch base with me there<br />
<br />

<br />
And Karen, Rodney moved across the street from his old apartment behind 7/11 but is still there, decades later.

Jun 17, 2009 | 7:48 amHey Vinyl, just call me Peter. Your disco years are my favorite as well. I might even let mine slide into early and mid 81, but that's probably as far as I go before it starts to get too Euro synth for me. I don't mind the dance music from the mid 80's, it's just that it lost all the orchestral flavors that real strings and horns brought to the table.
Where do you all hook up to dance? I'm assuming Oil Can Harrys? I have no idea if I'm going to Grace Jones. That's my birthday month (YES, I celebrate the whole month) and I'm being taken places on every weekend by friends so I'm in the dark about how I'm celebrating. If you look back on the thread, there are some pics of me from back in the day. Am I someone you've met or remember seeing at the O?

Jun 16, 2009 | 7:17 pmHello PF My name is John. I live in L.A and still run into Derek and Viva and others from O days. We still get together occasionally and both Derek and Viva grace our Disco events with their performances. We are always looking for more Disco friends in Los Angels. My personal Disco tastes are for 74-79. We still Hustle to the Philly groove and spin to Euro magic. Would like to hook up with you and any other Disco friends you might have.........Are you going to Grace Jones in July?????? How would you like to hook up with 200 hard core Die Hard Disco Freaks!!!?!!!!Vinyllife@yahoo.com

Jun 16, 2009 | 1:22 pmHey Darius, when I went to the Odyssey, I met a guy from Iran. I wonder if it was you. What years were you there?
-
Jun 15, 2009 | 4:08 pmWow, the site is back up for comments! I hope everyone comes back to enjoy it. Derek, Kevin, PaulE, are you guys out there?
-
May 15, 2009 | 12:19 pmI used to work at the "O" doing the lights till I spilled milk on the light board and fried the thing.
-
May 09, 2009 | 8:10 amWOW! I can't believe the site is up and working again. It wouldn't allow any comments in here for almost a year. Cool!
How about we all try to behave this time? Certain people (you know who you are!) took it upon themselves to sit in judgement of anyone who logged on here. Sure, lots of us were regulars and we all had our own circles of friends but that doesn't make anyone's input more valuable or interesting than anyone else's.
So lets all be kind to each other. This site is for EVERYONE, whether they went to the O every night or just once! We all belonged back then. MY memories are of nights filled with fun, dancing and laughing with all varieties of artistic and creative people, not of hating! And lets also try to keep these comments related to the Odyssey while we're at it. It should not deteriorate into becoming one persons personal daily "Instant Message" service! NO ONE wants to read page after page of that cr@p! LOL! Gimme a break!
XXX,

May 04, 2009 | 10:30 pmI was a young boy just turned 18, came from tehran / Iran. I fell in love with disco music and pretty boys and girls at oddyssey. It's a very special time in my life. My favorite song was "Love Disco Style" and it always reminds me of a very handsome blond guy and I thought I had discovered life and America. Things change! Thank you for having this site. I liketo share many memories from that era. Oddyssey was like Utopia. There will never be another.

Sep 14, 2008 | 10:05 am60 mins X 6 hours =360 . 12 inch records 8 to 10 mins, mix time 1:32 or there about, talk time 10:00 over the night You would only need 36 to 40 records for a night being bring them up ...peak them out...bring them down.. bear in mind most would be played two times in a night. Ok peace out, this is so one up the other, and that is not what I had in mind where i found this site, I just wanted to find old friends and share good times. I was so lucky to stand next to some of the "Great Dj's" of the disco years Danna Andrews,John Kmetz,Robbie Leslie,Chuck E. Starr, if not anything more than stand in a Dj booth, standing by, on call for any of thier needs. I miss many of My old friends some I know I will never see again, but in My minds eye, But just maybe, yes just maybe some, are still out there in the threads of life. Think with Your Heart then You can feel the Love all around You. Malibu Barbie

Sep 14, 2008 | 9:03 amNo list of songs are right or worng but the time they were played makes a big dent in what You did hear. The first year being 1977 you would have only have the songs in press for the year 1977 and before. Odyssey open in early 1977 not in the year 1976 as some may think, and if I be worng My mind may need a up date, so with 10 or 11 months before the new year 1978, and with that in mind You have to think what was there to play?. You could not play a club hit or a radio hit from 1979 in the year 1977, this would be a mind trip even for Odyssey 1 standards, being lemon-714's did not come around till 1979 when the USA stoped the out put of the real thing.Even the songs I picked have a few of out of eria mixes. Odyssey 1 was very well known for the time warp, in fact, many came to the club from other clubs starwood, studio one and others just to be there at midnight to dance in line, then leave. This was a lip sync and group dance. Give the time frame, lets now form a list of Disco mixes that would be indicative to the the year and its club life and let us with are thinking caps on come up with a song list of what we did hear, in that year 1977.

Sep 14, 2008 | 8:47 amSteve Augustine! That was his name.
-
Sep 14, 2008 | 8:42 amAlso, on the Ninth and Tenth pictures from the top (The Float Pix) there is a huge guy with a red Hawaiian shirt on. He was the guy we used to call 'Teeny', he was about 6'6" or 6'7" and large. He was very campy and funny.
And, there looks like a guy I knew named Steve who was a waiter and did sweep up. He had a small role in Diane Keaton's movie "Heaven".
I do remember 'June' but don't recall what his real name was...
-
Sep 14, 2008 | 8:26 am'Heaven on the 7th Floor' by Paul Nicholas

'Fairy Tale High', 'I Remember' & 'MacArthur Park' by Donna Summer
'Nothings Gonna Keep Me From You" by Teri DeSario
'Born To Be Alive' by Paul Hernandez
'Devil's Gun' by CJ & Company
"Keep It Coming Love" by KC & The Sunshine Band
'Thats The Meaning & Boogie Motion' by Beautiful Bend

Thanks Peter & Malibu Barb!

Sep 14, 2008 | 8:05 amYes I agree...I really don't like radio disco that you never heard in clubs. I Feel Love and Boogie Oogie Oogie were never heard in the clubs I went to. I remember Michael Angelo having a sign in his DJ Booth that said "NO RADIO HITS" meaning if you heard it on the radio he wouldn't play it. That's why these radio stations like K-Earth and K-Big are tiresome, they play the same ten disco radio hits that were never played in a club back then. If I never hear I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor again it willbe too soon. Her other songs "Honey Bee" "Never Can Say Goodbye" were much better but hardly get played. Just like Lipps Inc's Funkytown which was a radio hit only. The Lipps Inc song I remember at Odyssey was "Rock It" a much better tune in my opinion.

Sep 14, 2008 | 6:53 amDavid Alan Reis better known for his pairings with Leo Ford in Leo & Lance and Blonds Do It Best, both directed by William Higgins.
One of Odyssey first light men I think and many did follow. I maybe worng but I think You can see Him in photo at the top of page.
HE is the tall Blonde His head looking back at You ...He looks just like Me. LoL but then i could be worng too but I think that Danny is the short guy behind Him.
The top photo looks like Nick, Woody, Chirs, and Scott, with Danny behind Scott. The Door Man the only name I can remember is His "girl" name is June playing with the ballons.
Are there any other faces in the photos above that anyone can remember ? there names to help jog Our not so old minds with ?.

There seem to be so much hate in the world now days and name calling is just part it. Just because someone likes this or that or knows something you may not, maybe it was to many drugs ,or maybe not the right kind of drugs, how should I know. I have bin on the planet for close to 50 years now and I still do not understand hate. If one needs to hate and call others names, then please go kick your dog, slap your cat, take some more drugs and pass out. I am sure others do not like to be called names and labled with words of Hate, because one can not look inside ones self and find love and then share that love with others.

Sep 14, 2008 | 5:17 amIn the pre-80's days, it was more characters then costumes. All everyone wore was feathered hair, cotton shirts from India and tight jeans. There was some of the "Jean Genie" glam rock overtones. But everyone was still H-I-G-H, when we were there or found a way to get high. When the fashion and music shift took place from disco to New Wave/Punk in late late 70's (The Cars, Blondie), I started going to a place on LaBrea and Melrose called "Blackies" which was a very intense
rock environment. Beer bottles being throw from the stage, the audience fighting with the performers...very different then the disco! It was that time that I took off to San Francisco to go to college and got into the New Wave phase somewhat then gave most of the clubbing up.
Yeah, it was amazing the diverse sequeway from disco to punk to new wave/techno.

Sep 14, 2008 | 1:04 amThat's just HYSTERICAL!! You just listed every cliche disco song I've ever heard of. Big,Big,Big disco hater back in the day. Listening to your list at the volume played at the Odyssey would have sent the later O crowd running, and screaming into the streets! I've got to ask, were the early days as much of a costume party as in the later years? I didn't get to the club until late '79 when disco was just barely hanging on. I remember walking into the place was like entering into some strange, loud Halloween party! Where one couldn't tell the boys from the girls, and most who attended couldn't care less which they left with! All drunk, or on acid, coked out or on shrooms, or all the above. Did anyone go into the club sober? I remember that place as the Greatest Freak Show On Earth! Not the disco from Saturday Night Fever. Totally different scene. But without the time of disco would there ever have been later days of the Odyssey? Haven't really given it much thought, though I'm sure some of you have. Or do you just wish the good old disco days never ended? For me, the term Classic Disco is an oxymoron. LMAO!
-
Sep 13, 2008 | 7:51 pmOk Disco was Odyssey 1 it was a disco and I can not say much for what came after as things changed, But when Disco was King! that is what was played at Odyssey 1.I put together a sample list of what may have bin played in a night mind you we did not have all the lights that were in Odyssey in 83,or 84, as they just were not in the club when it started. I definately remember Robbie Jagger!!! The line of questioning would go: "Hey, there's a party on Sunset, anyone want to go?" Robbie: "Will there be Tooinals and Champagne??!" answer: "Probably..." Robbie: "Well then lets GO b****!"...
I think I remember Larry Lawler; was he short, tan, with dark hair and eyes, handsome with a mustache? Wasn't Larry a waiter or busboy for awhile??

Hey Karen, I wish I still had that jacket. I originally purchased it somewhere on Melrose back in 1977. I wore it a couple of times to the O, then one weekend, I took it to my regular dry cleaners where I always took it, and they "lost" it. There was a kid behind the counter that was always asking me if he could have it when I got tired of it so I'm pretty sure I know where it went. I loved it. It was really well made of good material and sturdy. I remember when I was buying it, the guy had me try it on and when it fit, he said I was the first person who tried it on who's waist was small enough to button it all the way down. They kid behind the counter at the cleaners would have never fit into it.
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 5:52 pmI'd like to know what this "something more" is thats going into these pictures. Most everything posted here can be found from any computer connected to the internet. PFields pics of the outside and Mark Randall's shot of Chuck in the booth are the only memory jogging pictures I've not seen before. All three great shots. But where are these personal pictures that are so deserving of credit? I've yet to see any art here, just a couple memories. The cranky crybabies needing credit should affix a nipple to a bottle, get a blanket, and take a nap.
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 10:21 amI always looked like a cross between a mentally disabled person, a teenage hooker, a reject from the gong show and a drag queen and they always let me in...they would just roll their eyes, esp that guy who took your money at the door.
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 10:03 am
The one thing I did notice was that they always let in the most fashionable girls, even when I was going. One Halloween, Susan and I went as Ricky and Lucy Ricardo (she DID look the part) and at first, they didn't want to let her in because she was wearing a pill box hat. But Nick finally walked over and told us to go in. They had a problem with hats back then.
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 9:46 amI'm starting to believe this 3ID rule was the clubs way of saying " Girls, we tolerate you, because you bring in the cute litte boys, but we don't have to let your underage a** anywhere near the dance floor."
Just a guess, but feels right to me.
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 9:41 amRemember when the Enchirito was served in that little tin tray? And they still had the Bell Burger or Bell Beefer? Like a taco on a bun, man that was good.
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 9:38 am
Yo quero Taco balls
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 9:31 amI did receive some oral one night but I had the good taste to drive down the street to the Taco Bell parking lot. I invented the "Chalupa" in 1979.
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 9:21 amhmmm.. i never heard of this 3 id rule. i was 15 (in 1980) when i started going to odyssey and never had to show an id. who has an id when they're 15 let alone 3 of them?
by the way- awesome pics you guys have been posting. love the one of the front with the odyssey sign lit up. over the years i tried to imagine what it looked like inside after the fire. now i know. i still have a lump in my throat. :(
and as far as kids going around the neighborhood and causing trouble at night- the only thing we used to go was pick flowers (mainly roses) from the neighbors and give them to our friends inside. i do recall one night getting busted by someone who yelled at us from their front porch. lol

Sep 12, 2008 | 7:14 am
That has to be the most flattering thing anyone has ever said about me. I think I love you Derek :)
Although, I never was aware of being a tease with you. I know that I was in awe of you and very taken with your beauty and talent. I probably just came off as a groupie when you were around. I never even thought you noticed I was there.
And by the way, my a** still looks the same.
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 6:47 amPeter, you were and still are a major tease!!!! Peter was like a piece of jewelry at Tiffanys. Out on display for everyone to oogle, but untouchable, behind glass. You should have seen him swish that cute dancer's a** at Scene One in 1984-86. I wanted to hit that bad but never got more than a flirt and a tease. I'd love to interview Peter's bf of 25 years to see how he managed to snag that major piece.
I've never been that naive, very street smart but not intellectual. I worked in nightclubs and bars constantly from 1980-1997, I have seen it all. I am a people watcher by nature and I loved being at Odyssey watching more than doing. It was an education. You can learn alot about people by watching how they interact with others.
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 6:21 am
Maybe, but it doesn't show my best side. Ask Derek.
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 6:19 amYeah, but you look GOOD!!!
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 6:10 am
Paul E, HOW DARE you post that picture of me dancing in my disco shorts. I was retaining water that day and didn't look my best. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 6:06 amYou're right Derek, the general population was quite homophobic in the late 70's and most of the 80's too. I had totally forgot about that. I lived for 20 years in the South Bay before ever venturing to Hollywood. I didn't even know what a gay club was before my first trip to the Odyssey. Didn't even know there was such a thing! Its really quite hysterical to think before that night, for me, homosexuality was just some vague concept. The terms Gay, and f**, held no more meaning for me than any other spewed insult, words uttered to anger, and ridicule. Whats really strange is how quickly one develops the GAYDAR. Turns out a good third of my best friends were gay, and I had no idea!! Actually, the only kids I knew that had any real personality, were gay as a three dollar bill! The next couple years were real eye-openers for me. I never realized how openly hostile most people were, gay-bashing, both verbal, and physical seemed to go on everywhere. I didn't understand the anger, or the threat. What was to be scared of, or pissed off about? I just thought being at a club that was at least half gay made the odds of going home with some beautiful girl that much better! I was right! Been married for almost 12 years to a girl I met on the steps of the Odyssey not quite 30 years ago! Thank god things have changed for the better, at least I hope they have. I still seem to be a little on the naive side sometimes. Once a rube always a rube. Ah shut up and dance!!

-
Sep 12, 2008 | 6:04 am
Many of us refer to her as "statuesque"
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 5:58 amWow, so sad what happened to her. I remember a night in the fallof 79 when Tatum O'Neal came into Odyssey with Leif Garrett, she sat right next to me and I remember thinking how gorgeous she was in person. She had a radiant smile. Despite her later drug use I still think she looks good. If I were married to John McEnroe I'd be on crack too. One night Tony Curtis was there too with his other daughter, not Janie Lee. I also remember meeting Julie Newmar at Circus in 1981. Funny cuz, the 87 year old man I care for on weekends in Brentwood lives down the street from her. She had a hip replacement and 3 months ago she went walking with me and my patient while she was out doing her therapy for her hip. She just turned 75 on 8-16-08. I named my siamese kitten after her "Newmar". But when I first saw her in 1981 I thought she was adrag queen she is 6 feet tall.

Sep 12, 2008 | 5:45 am
I had an incident way back in 79 or 80. One of my friends was modeling with the Nina Blanchard Agency. One night, she introduced me to a girl that was absolutely beautiful. She told me, "Please dance with my friend, she's here from Wilhelmina on a modeling gig and I've been bragging about how good you dance and she's too embarrassed to ask you" so I said sure and met her friend who she introduced as Gia. It wasn't until YEARS later that I realized that I danced with Gia Carangi. She was so sweet. Every time a song ended and mixed into the next, she was say "Can we keep dancing?" Of course, I didn't mind, she was incredible to look at. One of the last things she said was “you should come to New York, I’ll show you around.” I’ll never forget that.
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 5:32 amI'm a born again agnostic. Usually it's the other way around. I think people were becoming more liberal then the AIDS epidemic hit and it shifted many back the other way. I do feel bad Odyssey was so discriminatory against women, I actually enjoyed seeing some of them all dolled up in their disco outfits. I remember one Sunday night in late 79 there was a tall model looking woman in her early 20's, I was shorter and skinnier than she was but I asked her and she danced with me to "I Love the Nightlife"...don't know why I remember that incident but it stuck in my memory bank.
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 5:18 am
Well, he did end up becomming a born again Christian and I never heard from him again, so his guilt and repression happened later in life.
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 5:10 amThat was pretty open minded in 1979 to be that cool about hanging out in a gay bar. It is more common now but people in general were a bit more uptight sexually back then. There were more stigmas and taboos associated with being gay.
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 4:46 am
You and me both Derek. I remember this really good-looking guy asked me to dance one night. He was a good dancer and after we finished, he asked me if I wanted a drink and to go sit in the patio. He smelled SO good which I later found out was "Devin" by Aramis. Ha ha figure that. Of course I said yes and after about 10 minutes of sitting in the patio and talking he starts mentioning his girlfriend and how they're going to get married, etc. Oddly, I couldn't get upset. I was too unfamiliar with how guys worked at that point in my life. He ended up becoming a very good friend that I would dance with every time I went there.
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 4:34 amIt was my first real Hollywood gay club and it was magical from the moment I stepped inside. I do remember those cologne machines in the rest room that sprayed a shot of "Aramis" for 50 cents or something like that. I remember the stools along the balcony where you could sit and watch the action. I liked that lounge just inside the patio area too...it had a Las Vegas feel to it. I've give my left N_t to go back to 1979 for one night.

Malibu, I am so glad you're back and everything is "right as rain." You would have been so missed. You know we love you!!!
DjDavid, no problem. I didn't take it wrong. I'm glad you cleared up the source of the picture. I just wish there were more of the interior. That place was my home for five years (76 to 81) and it just kills me that I can't bring my brain to remember details of the inside. I would have given my left nut to see that club rise from the ashes. I have no idea if there are any current teen discos, but none could ever compare to the O.
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 3:57 amOk I am sorry. Maybe I got frustrated My post would come as links and not photos and then My photo came up in pauls post just set me off.It was like the movie Live Hard Die Hard where the hacker uploads the virus and nothing happens and the thug tells him to wait for it, guess I did not wait for it long enough and when it was in pauls post before it came up in mine I went and deleted it from flickr. So again I am sorry. I too get most of my photos from the web but I do have a few of My own. As for club rules I go back to them alot because Odyssey 1 was a Gay night club. Its roots deep into coming of age and coming out, along with gay rights, but changed as times changed and yes we had girls! too! christy and Her group of chicks they are where some of My best tips came from. Gad got to go to work more later "peace"
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 3:46 amReally I'm with both of you. Who cares who said what. Just keep writing.
It is so great to see all of these great pics. I tried to go to Malibu Barbies host and was denied access. Maybe thats why what she did, did not work. Maybe the server here is not going to allow us access to Flicker.
Anyhow i spoke with Karen and she is busy with her custody/divorce thing, but is OK.
pfields i hope that you keep writing about anything that you find. I just wanted to correct you from thinking that that was a live shot from a real night. Sorry if you took it as if it was.
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 3:17 am
I'm with you Paul E. Except for the pictures of myself, all the pics of the O I posted are from the web as well. I just assumed everyone would be happy to see them and not worry where they came from. I didn't realize the picture I just posted was from "Nightshift" but when I saw that it was taken in the Odyssey, I got excited and thought everyone else would like to see it. I apologize if I've stepped on anyones toes as well.
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 2:09 amOh Crap! before someone else gets upset, the pic of ChuckE in the headdress was given to me by someone else too. If you want credit for it, speak up! I just don't remember things like that!!

-
Sep 12, 2008 | 1:48 amYes PFields maybe you're right. Barbie, if you are feeling slighted because I posted your photo, please accept my apology, that was not my intent at all! I was just trying to get it to post for you. Every photo of the Odyssey posted here I've gotten off the Web, not my property. If you'd like props for your pic of freepasses,I give them to you now. If you go back and look at your photo that I posted, you'll notice I captioned it with "Good One!" in reference to it being your photo. I only did it because all I was seeing(before this morning) was a link, or a line of code, and your references to your frustration of not being able to get the photo to show. If you write me, I'll be happy to explain how. Again, Sorry!

-
Sep 12, 2008 | 1:32 amThis is a picture that i posted that was from the movie nightshift that was filmed at the odyssey. This is not an actual shot of our nighttime antics.Although it would give one the general idea of how much fun we had.
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 12:55 amOddly enough, look at this shot from behind the bar adn notice all the girls dancing.

-
Sep 12, 2008 | 12:52 amAll I noticed was that Barbie's comments had boxes in them with no photos so I assumed she was having trouble with the code transfer. I hope she didn't think you were maliciously trying to take credit for the fan photo. Please don't leave Barbie. Your memories and stories have really entertained me and brought back so many of my own. You really would be missed if you didn't post.
As for the camera and three ID rules, I remember those being enforced when I was going to the O. I think it was primarily to keep it a male establishment for as long as they could, but that's just a guess. I remember asking someone in line about that rule and they said "if they want to dance, they can go to Executive Suite in Orange County." I never understood the need for separation, but I was young and just figured that's how things were. But a year after I started going, I began bringing my straight friend Susan with me. By that time, I was a nightly fixture and Nick just waved us in everytime we went. We rarely had to pay the cover.

-
Sep 12, 2008 | 12:09 amOr maybe Barbie got caught in that mysterious rift she was talking about. Or maybe its not so mysterious. Can someone please explain to me what the hell she was talking about! Did someone get upset and take their toys home so no one can play?! Who needs to grow up?! Totally confused on this end.
-
Sep 12, 2008 | 12:00 amRight! And now her pictures are gone! What is going on here?! Next her comments will totally be gone, then ours that reference hers will be gone. Then Malibu Barbie will never have existed at all!
-
Sep 11, 2008 | 7:22 pmWhat happened?! What did I miss here?! Who's disagreeing with whom?!
I'm gone for 8 hours and everything changes...
Malibu Barbie, you cannot go anywhere!!! Its taken over 32 years for us to find you!!
I LOVE THE PICTURES, its one of the real treats of coming back to this blog...besides the memories and the chat!
Its so remarkable to me that we all share these experiences with each other, and remember people long gone or lost to our immediate awareness.
This has been a real find, this site, for me!
:-)
Peace!

Sep 11, 2008 | 3:16 pmNo Barbie..It's cool that you have photos.I think everyone wants to see them .Paul and stacey what great shots. Its so Extraordinary that this was such a big part of our lives and that we are still here and able to remember all this great stuff about our clubhouse.I will never forget the first time i walked in.. It was Amazing.I had just flown in from Miami at the request of Scott. First i was taken to Circus Circus , Then to Pinks ... Then to the Odyssey . It was a satuday Day at 11:50 pm .. I will never forget it. So anyone who ever went there must have felt the same way.Everyone became my Family for the next 5 years. Steven Smith ( the most dedicated and Talented D.j ever ) and i had worked together in Florida so we quickly became friends and ... well the rest is History... God bless him. He was the first person that i knew that passed away from the big "a" .When Scott passed it was probably the saddest day that i have ever felt. My best friend was gone...Forever. But our memories are still here and he will be laughing at us right now for honoring his vision... His sweat and blood rolled through the Odyssey since before its inception ( to the benefit of everyone that ever walked in the front door ) . Thanks to Chris for having the ability to keep the doors open through all the nightmares ( legally and otherwise ) that were thrown at him. It was there vision that amazes me even Today. chris is a great friend and seeing the pictures of scott and chris is Amazing. So please Malibu Barbie. Dont give up. Try and repost what you have. Thanks. Dave
-
Sep 11, 2008 | 2:58 pmI for one would hate for you to stop writing. I like reading your memories of the Odyssey. They are so very different from most of the others. Still, I have no idea of what you are referring to in your last couple of posts. Who's the thief? and who's making fun of you? Am I missing something? Maybe I'm just a bit thick!
-
Sep 11, 2008 | 2:51 pmBitterness, an emotion similar to resentment, indeed when one posts one's photo then see others make fun of said act... calling us bitter. so being bitter as said by others maybe this will be one of my last comments as even after 30 year some still need to grow up.
-
Sep 11, 2008 | 2:38 pmWhen was this 3 id rule in effect? I never heard of anything like that. And I know for a fact my wife

never had more than one ID at a time her whole life. And she spent years dancing that podium!! Whats going on here? Besides, most everyone I knew brought in their own booze, why would a camera be a hard to sneek in. I know someone must have pics of the inside of that place!!
-
Sep 11, 2008 | 2:09 pmOK Bitter Barbie today.. they were not my rules. I tried to recind the three ID rule, but so many parents called and asked how it was that there 16 year old daughter was inside all night fornicating, masturbating, deficating and gyrating...so that we tried to make everyone happy. Just imagine what todays rules would be.LOL
-
Sep 11, 2008 | 1:52 pmAny "theif" should know there are few photo's from the clubs inside, as camera's were not aloud. Girls had to have three Ids so on and so on. so seeing a "thief" makes me think ....Is that not why you left in the first place and it took 30 years just to talk about that place Odyssey 1 .
-
Sep 11, 2008 | 1:52 pmSure is...is that a Barry Manilow wig or his hair? I don't ever remember him having hair that long.
-
Sep 11, 2008 | 1:44 pmOMG thats Chuck E. thats one i havent seen.
-
Sep 11, 2008 | 1:36 pmYeah Barbie rage against the rift. What rift? Why am I always the last to know!? That sounds like something Karen would say. Karen,.... It that you?...
-
Sep 11, 2008 | 1:30 pmLook closely and imagine a mustache and black leather hat and chaps.
-
Sep 11, 2008 | 12:44 pm
Come on Malibu, rage against the rift and post those club pics. I would love to see them. Who's the cutie in the red feathers above?
-
Sep 11, 2008 | 12:19 pmWhy can't they just make it simple to post a pic on here, we shouldn't have to go through all these various steps, it's silly. We are old biotches, if we were 13 years old it would be easy but we didn't grow up with computers. Pinball machines I can kick a** on but not posting a pic.
-
Sep 11, 2008 | 12:06 pmto bad there seems to be a rift and will keep my club phots to myself to bad for ALL of us
-
Sep 11, 2008 | 11:59 amGotcha!!Good one!!

-

Sep 11, 2008 | 11:13 amLOVE IT...GREAT PIC!
-
Sep 11, 2008 | 11:10 amBarbie, you mean like this?

-
Sep 11, 2008 | 11:09 amYes, I had a those matchbooks until maybe 7 years ago. Don't know what I did with them. Yeah Room Odorizer, what a joke that was. I personally never used poppers, can't stand them, I have allergies and they make my head feel like it is going to explode if I get near them. Yes I think the T Shirts were sold there too along with cigarette lighters. That "No Faggots" sign at Barney's was actually there until a few years ago when the City of West Hollywood threatened a lawsuit. I've never been inside that place. Have no desire.
-
Sep 11, 2008 | 10:36 amOk let's do the Odyssey Fan Dance !

-
Sep 11, 2008 | 7:20 amActually Derek they said on them : "Room Odorizer" !!!
I don't remember the "F-U" matchbooks...
(I remember Barneys Beanery had matchbooks that had "Fagots Stay Out!" printed on them until the early 1980's, also there was a plaque above the bar in the '60s but Janis Joplin threatened to boycott the place if they didn't take it down!)
...didn't the booth also sell the t-shirts? (I knew I had one once because I wore it to Disneyland and people who worked there would stop me or wink). I loved Classix Nouveau, Kate Bush, Cocteau Twins, Klaus Nomi, Brian Ferry, Siouxie and the Banshees...etc.
I was living in San Francisco during my "New Wave" period, and went to a place called the "Mab Gardens" (full name: Mabuhey Gardens, as it was a Filipino Restaurant that became a NewWave/Punk club)...anyway, I digress.
-
Sep 11, 2008 | 4:42 amIf anyone has pics of the inside I'd love to see those. It is funny how you can spend so much time in a place and forget the details of the interior. 25 years does some damage to the memory or I guess during present times we just don't pay that much attention when it is happening. I do remember the booth upstairs that sold poppers aka "Room Deodorizer" and does anyone remember the neon green matchbooks that had "F k Off" printed on the cover?
-
Sep 11, 2008 | 3:54 am
Wow, Classix Nouveau, now THAT'S a flashback I haven't thought of in a long time. What great memories. You rock Roxy.
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 6:07 pmAwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww see now I'm rocking out to Classics Nouveau!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nawiQi1kNoI
"Guilty, guilty you found me"
Anybody else remember the New Romantic Dance?
I do! Phoenix taught me how to dance actually at Odyssey lol
good times
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 6:00 pmKLAUS NOMI!
EVEN BEFORE THAT THE FIRST NEW ROMANTIC I SAW WAS SAL SOLO FROM CLASSICS NOUVEAU WHEN THE VIDEO FOR "GUILTY" HIT MTV HE FRIENDED ME ON MYSPACE AND IS A GOSPEL SINGER NOW
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 5:45 pm
I loved Klaus Nomi. I was so depressed when he died.
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 5:41 pmOMG Peter, Thats too incredible!!
The tough yet sensitive artist pose... GREAT!!! LOL
I really love all these old pix!!!
I gotta find the one of me from 1983 where I am dressed like Klaus Nomi.
I gotta find it.
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 5:40 pm
Greg, I'd rather not say the name of the group on this board. It wouldn't be in compliance with what you could print in the "New York Times" We mostly did the college party circuit but we did have some pretty cool songs that I wrote that would get requested.
Okay Kevin, get yourself to bed and e-mail me when you can.
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 5:35 pmThe only time I ever had sex in my car was we would drive up to the Hollywood Hills, I'd park at a cub by a driveway and throw a canvas tarp over the top. Instant darkness, instant fun.
I am amazed no one ever looked under the tarp, but it always looked like a car parked in the neighborhood.
Greg, other then the intense blond flip and eye make-up you were wearing in those "Odyssey Daze" pics...you haven't aged at all really, compared to your current pictures.
And proud Papa, your daughters are very sweet and cute! :-)
Malibu Barbie, Thanks so much for the Memorabilia!!! I would collect those cards so I would have surplus if I was broke and needed them.
Peter, I owe you an e-mail soon. I just got in from a job and I got an early one tomorrow but I promise to drop you a line ASAP.
Goodnight All!
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 5:32 pmCool, what band was it?
Was it the band called Fashion?
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 5:24 pmGreg, if you want from 80 to 84, then we might have crossed paths for one year. I stopped going in 81. This is a picture of me when I as singing in this terrible new romantic group in 80 or so. I sang lead vocals. I still can't believe I had a 27 inch waist then.

-
Sep 10, 2008 | 5:13 pmWill try to post a pic of me now. Although not many knew who I was except the Peanuts crowd.
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 5:09 pm
You're right, it is odd not seeing on here posting.
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 5:07 pmI went to Odyssey from 1980-1984 You couldn't miss me here I was although to look at me now you would not know it and neither would I except I remember so much detail about everything:

I was always hanging with these two idiots

This is me now:

Somebody should call and check on Karen it's not like her to not come on here daily. Did she seem depressed or anything?
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 5:02 pm
Well, there were a couple of nights where it was getting late and I had to search through parked cars to find my buddy that I had driven there. I'd always interrupt him in the back seat of some car in mid gulp but from the amount of empty cars I had to look into, it wasn't as bad as those residents claimed. It was only bad for ME if it was raining.
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 4:55 pmWith Scott making us "police" the street and alley around the club at 4:40 am maybe that is why you never did hear much from them but when that stoped they started to scream!!!
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 4:49 pmOh Please! did I miss some thing maybe the new kids on the block did not have SEX in the yards and in cars parked right in their drive ways But the elders did. Scott the mgr. would make the crew of waiters and bar backs "police" ie: pick up all the beer bottles, gum wapers, even the cig butts up that side street in the opening years. This is in part of what I mean, when our click ended and the new click took over. We had no fear pre "82" it was SEX, DRUGS and ROCK&ROLL baby, and what came after us was not the same!. One time I spent the night in the trunk of someone big fat car a caddie or lincon and trust Me we did not sleep...LOL ever see the movie Saturday Night Fever with With John Travolta, Karen Lynn doing it in the car... Oh Please...
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 4:43 pmYes, the club burned in 1984, I do remember the neighbors talking about the sex and peeing etc. When I went there in 1979-80 the area when the club was open was pretty quiet. I think the trouble started when the rowdier punk scene showed up. Those kids were a bit wilder than the disco crowd, also rowdy straight boys showed up too. If you look back Disco music was not angry music but some of the punk music was just like some of today's rap. In 1992 the neighbors also tried to get Peanut shut down unsuccessfully. I have heard that the owners of Odyssey had several other clubs that were also torched for the insurance money. I LOVE THOSE TWO PICS, I really get off on old pic, I had forgotten how beautiful the neon "Odyssey" sign was out front. I took it for granted back then does anyone have this in color at night?
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 5:48 am
Hey Greg, what years did you go to the Odyssey?
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 5:38 amLOL It's almost worth it to open a club in a residential neighborhood just to hear people say "kids are drinking and having sex on my front lawn" that was such an exaggeration. Now having sex in cars on the other hand that was going on my little blue Honda Civic was called "The little blue sex machine". But you can't see into cars on the street from your haouse people having sex, the neighbors must have been walking their dogs to see it. I can picture the neighborhood on that street just to the right of Odyssey but in my memory it looked like the barrio to me and they don't complain.
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 5:19 am
Paul, from your mouth to Gods ear! I would love to see some pictures of the Odyssey on the inside when it was in full swing. In my mind, I can vaguely picture the lounge and the upstairs, but it's been too many years.
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 5:15 amThanx for sharing those pics! I've wanted a nighttime photo of the O forever! Now if someone had good pics of the inside.......
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 4:47 am
Hey Kevin:
The closure attempts started around late 1981 until it finally burned down. Neighbors around the corner were complaining that drunken teens were peeing in their yards and driveways and having sex in their cars in front of their houses. Anyone who went to the Odyssey knew that behavior like that did take place but on a very small level. The neighborhood contingent made it sound like it was happening in the hundreds. They weren't able to close it down, but if memory serves me right, the city was thinking of putting limitations on how many nights it could be open during the week. Hence, it "suddenly" burned down. If anyone can correct me or add to the information, I'd appreciate it.
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 4:41 amLOVE it! The top pic reminds me of what the club looked like when we were there; (notice the woman in the back of the line with the 'close toe' shoes, I bet she had 3 pieces of ID too!)
I have no memory of when they tried to close it.
Peter, can you tell us the story?
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 4:33 amKaren's friend Danette too, pretty much any girl with that whole Cleopatra/Bettie Paige look going on. We should all make an Odyssey crush list LOL
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 4:25 amI remember Serenia, I totally wanted to close her escrow then I was told she was going out with Joan Jett.
LOL
I'd still do it
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 4:24 amJust thought I'd share this picture of the Odyssey.

Anyone remember this day when they were trying to shut the Odyssey down?

-
Sep 10, 2008 | 4:07 amMalibu Barbie gets it right. Those of us came and played in the 70's, then moved on and the new kids came in and played until the fire shut it all down. Gotta remember too that us 'teens' in the 70's were in our 20's in the 80s. I left LA in 1980 and went to college in SF area.
The pics given us by Paul & Greg look so great and it looked really fun.
1982- I was 22 and considered myself an 'old man' by then...
and yes, AIDS was a huge factor in the paradigm shift.
Its just what happened and we survivors talk about it.
I have no sadness from that time; just happy, wild, funny, sweet memories of a group of kids who found a home and place to play.
All of us, regardless of when we were there, found a place where we made great friends and good times...
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 3:48 am
Wow, even I remember Serenia.
-
Sep 10, 2008 | 2:27 amI don't know how old Serenia was when she first started going to the Odyssey', but I can tell you how old she is today. She moved to Torrance from Hollywood when she was 16 in '75. That makes her 49or 50. The story I heard was that being friends with Rodney B. from KROQ, she was given or loaned records which she in turn gave to ChuckE to spin at the club. Now I don't know if that is true, probably ChuckE might remember. I do know that she had been frequenting the Odyssey long before myself, when NewWave was only being played on two nights a week. Here she is on the cover

-
Sep 09, 2008 | 7:28 pmWell said Malibu Barbie. I often say that you can never relive old magic...all you really have of anyone or a certain time is all in your head. Time stops for no one and things change, nothing stays the same forever except Joan Collins makeup. They FINALLY posted my Peanuts pic but it is way up this page near the top, it's a B&W shot with Kenny (Grace Jones) and me and a few others.
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 6:51 pmClick Here, Click there, Here a Click, there a Click, there were Clicks for each room in the Club. Some Clicks never left the dance floor, others never left the patio!,and still again some clicks never left the game room, but maybe to pee or dance. If You needed a drink or anything eles for that matter (LOL), all one had to do was ask a waiter and one in a glass, was slung high above the waiters head on a round tray, on its way to the one who asked for it,and with a napkin too. Keep in mind Odyssey 1 was a class act on the west coast when first opened in 1977. The few years that followed can for the most part never be the same as it was for Us luckey few to live in a Click of time, all the fun, "Sex" {three tricks a night} "Drugs" {Cocain,Quaaludes,Speed,You name it} "Rock and Roll" all down at the Disco, so it too was just a click in time, '78' '79' '80' '81' the HAPPY Years then came '82' and the word many never seem to say "AIDS" and there went My clicks, I would not get phone calls any more saying "hey let's go to the club and party and Dance the Night away". I would get phone calls saying things like "can you come by Jerrys house and be with Him I do not think he will last the night". Like the passing clicks on a master clock things changed, We changed, the Club changed. For many of Us the happness was over and a nightmare began, for others the happness began at the same Club We all called the Odyssey 1. One more thing Please do not be bummed out by what I have said, for I had so many Happy Times at the club It will always be in My heart as it Too is with Many of You and in Your Hearts, as I am sure this to be true.
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 6:34 pmI used to hang at the 'O' only for a couple of years from 82-83 (Age 16 and 17). I figured a reunion on a Monday night following a show at the Comedy Store would be difficult to pull off....especially since we're all old as the motherfuc*in hills these days. :>0 Just kidding! Having said that - how could you really expect to relive that clubs excitement and intensity level? The only way to really make it happen would be to have it on a Friday or Saturday evening at a cool venue with a loud and clear sound system. Maybe Danny B’s new Ecco club in Hollywood – forget the comedy hour and chain Chuck E. behind a few turn tables – break out a few 8 balls of blow and let’s get busy! Seriously!
p.s. You guys have been posting your asses off today! Damn!
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 5:45 pmI gave Serenia a few rides and although she was very unique and ahead of her time the switch was in full swing before she showed up. But she was a trendsetter. Looking at her pics now I think she may have been just a bit older than some of us at that time.
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 3:46 pmI don't know what happened to Karen. But I do know that everyone else I've talked to was disappointed in the turn out for Chuck E's show and after party. But reading the last couple days of comments reminds me that there were so many different cliques going on at the same time. Also that before '80 it was such a different place. In fact most of the people I know from the O weren't there before the music turned New Wave. Here's a pic of the girl I always thought was responsible for the switch to New Wave

-
Sep 09, 2008 | 2:42 pmHere is a random collage of me my daughters and friends

Here was my club in Denver

Here I am at Burning Man

-
Sep 09, 2008 | 2:11 pmAwwwwwwwwww that picture of Lynn, Stacy, Margie and Christy is so adorable!
Your family looks great Paul you did well!
Here's a little bit after we were going to Odyssey

And here are my daughters and I and some random person ;)

What happened to Karen, this place was her lifeblood and all the sudden after the party she stopped posting?
I haven't been on here in awhile and I look from today up and it's all Derek, Skinny Kevin, pfields
How did the big Odyssey reunion go?
Enquiring minds want to know
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 2:06 pmI fiqured I better escape when I start waxing philosophically.
Peter, I will e-mail you later this evening.
And Derek, I went to the website...........................................................................................................................WOW!
(I wish I went to the gym more often)...whatever it is you are doing, KEEP DOING IT! You look fantastic!!

-
Sep 09, 2008 | 1:53 pmCORRECTION: "So many weary travelers, along life's dusty way; if anyone can play the tune, for Godsakes let 'em play!".
-George Bernard Shaw
:-)
And W.H. Auden:
As the Poets have mournfully sung,
Death comes to the innocent young;
Those rolling in money,
The screamingly funny,
And those who are very well hung!
Alright, enough of me for tonight! LOL!!!
Peace.
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 1:49 pm
I would do porn, but the audience would throw tomatoes at the screen.
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 1:47 pm
Yeah, and anyone else who gets to see the DVDs :-)

Sep 09, 2008 | 1:39 pmDerek, thats my point exactly...Life is too short and unpredictable to do anything but go for one's vision and dream for oneself...NO MATTER WHAT THAT IS!
I witnessed 9/11 up close on the streets here, (cannot believe it will be 7 years this Thursday), and it completely changed my view of life and how truly precious it is. We are of the generation that said goodbye to our friends way to early, had life experiences way too fast, flew chemically way too high sometimes...and the very fact that any of us on this blog, who had fun at the Odyssey from 1973-1984 and survived to share and remember that fun with each other, then thats very sweet indeed!
I have never escaped being a melancholy, sentimental & whimsical Irishman...LIVE AND TRULY LET LIVE is what I do now as a lifestyle.
As George Bernard Shaw said: "So many travelers along life's dusty way; if anyone can play the tune...for Godsakes let 'em play!!"
Love & Peace All! :-)

Sep 09, 2008 | 12:23 pmIn the early 80's they paid me to KEEP MY CLOTHES ON! I have to say it's a hell of a lot of work after 40 staying fit. But being over 40 now does not have the same stigma it did in the 80's. Most of the guys I have worked with were and are really smart, educated nice guys. So far it has been a great experience. My parents are dead, and I am never running for office so I really just have myself to please.

Sep 09, 2008 | 12:15 pmDerek, I shall check this out! I have great admiration for men who decide to do porn, or model or do something they have been putting off. I have an old friend who works under the porn name 'Gus Maddox". He started doing porn after he was 40 and very successful at it. He is also one of the most extremely talented individuals I've ever met. He can write music (and has composed music for movies), and brilliant actor, writer, designer and raconteur...he just one of those amazing people, and he has had a porn career after 40. Many of the guys we hung with back then did porn. Its funny, I'll see one of those old Falcon Pac videos and there will be this guy and that guy we all knew from the club. I knew a number of them when they were waiting tables at Drakes Too or Drakes on Santa Monica, or The Louisiana Purchase aka French Market Place.
Derek, I say... ROCK ON BABY, thats great!!!
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 12:01 pmI never thought of myself as hot. Funny, clever, energetic yes but never good looking. I was shocked to be asked to do porn at age 45. I am now under contract so I guess I feel vindicated for looking like a skinny mess back then.
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 11:55 amBut ya were Blanche...!!!...you had an a-s-s forever and a hot cutie boy face!
Like I said, we never saw ourselves clearly enough back then!
:-D
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 11:04 am
Kevin, if I had been as good looking as you, I would have had so much more fun back then.
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 11:03 am
Words to live by Kevin . . . words to live by.
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 11:03 amNone of us were ever happy with what nature gave us... :-)
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 10:58 am...Ah yes.. and hateful, vicious, bitter envy never abates!!! LOL ;-p
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 10:57 am
Kevin, on another note, you were luckier not having much of an a**. Being a former dancer, I usually had trouble getting mine into form fitting pants. Now that I'm not dancing anymore, I can get into clothes much more comfortably.
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 10:31 am
Kevin, back when I first met Derek, I thought he was SO hot. Then when I saw a pic of him recently, I thought, HOW DARE he get hotter. What nerve. (I'm saying a little prayer against him as I type)
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 10:27 amPeter & Derek!!! OMG, rats!? panty crickets!!?? I just wore hideous 13 button-fly sailor pants with a faux silk printed polyester shirt and these awful 'come **** me' pumps!!! I had no *ss so I had to wear anything that would stay up. I was a geek trying to be stylish, thank god I had people who eventually taught me how to dress for going out. I'm convinced that at that age, we all thought ourselves ugly. Looking back at old pictures, we were all cute and sexy.
I see it now thru the eyes of a nearly 50 year old survivor. I bet Derek, if I saw a pic of you from back then, you'd be a hottie. All the really gorgeous ones sadly either died or got older like the rest of us. I'm more comfortable now at 48 then I EVER was back then...running from scene to scene. But I had a mad time of it in my teens and have ZERO regrets (well, maybe one...that I was never really good at dating for any great period of time).
But, I gotta admit, you boys dishing is funny as hell!
xoxoxo
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 8:02 am
Ah, classy crickets!!!!
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 7:14 amNo that was 1981 in the back seat of my 1962 Cadillac convertible.
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 6:50 am
Are you sure it wasn't panty crickets?
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 6:48 amThis is a true story, in late 1979 my Jordache jeans were so tight I got a rash on my inner thighs near the groin and had to use Desenex diaper rash ointment to get rid of it. Not fun.
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 6:34 am
OH MY GOD, I had forgotten those were the early days of Jordache and Sasson jeans. Yup, I definitely had a few pairs of those. It's funny how I went from being British punk from 73 to 75 and so disco after. I remember it was like being vacuum packed in denim. I once was wearing a pair of Jordache jeans that were SO tight, I cut a fart and it looked like a rat running down my leg.
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 6:11 amOkay, it's your story you tell it the way you want to. But I remember your pants were so tight if you broke wind you would have blown your shoes off. You did have an amazing butt, so tight you could bounce a quarter off and get back two dimes and a nickel. You were very attractive I am not buying your story. My pics would have scared the crows out of Nebraska. Email me about how to post a pic.
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 5:46 am
Naw, I never had that much luck back then. I wish I had. I wasn't good looking like the West Hollywood types. I was just generic. I think I turned more stomachs than heads when I was young. In fact, at the Odyssey, nobody I was interested in even noticed me. Plus, I didn’t date then because I was dancing professionally and didn’t have time. It was work, dance class, Odyssey and sleep.
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 5:35 amI'm sure you did, in fact Dodger Stadium is the host of your reuinion of old boyfriends isn't it? I did everything backwards, I am a s-l-u-t now which at my age is a compliment. Back then I could have walked through a lumber camp naked and the only thing I would have picked up would have been splinters.
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 5:12 am
Oh yes, me and Eve Plumb were the toast of West Hollywood. Although, much like Alexander dated a professional football player, I did date one of the Dodgers back then.
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 5:08 amYes Peter but you were a pre-teen s***. Wasn't that TV Movie "Alexander, the other side of Dawn" your story? Just kidding, my god you weren't even legal running around "Ho" llywood.
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 4:55 am
I was in the 76 to 80 crowd.
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 4:44 amI first went to Odyssey in June 1979. I was 18, very skinny, awkward, not attractive so not many were nice to me. But I was fascinated with the place. I went there almost every weekend from 6-79 to late 1980 when I started working with Michael Angelo at Circus. I did do Chuck E Starr a favor in early 1980 (March I believe) when he asked to lip sync the new wave song "Kitchen Motors" in the DJ booth. I had a wig with curlers and a hand held mixer and as Chcuk mentioned (which I forgot about) I knocked the lid off the blender he had up there and it almost hit the turntable. I was a unique individual but not in the pretty crowd. I was also heavily into 1960's Rock & Roll and use to go-go on the podium next to the booth when Chuck played a 60's tune. I had the white go-go boots and all! I can't believe what I use to wear into that place, it scares me now to think. Luckily I am still alive and make a much better looking 47 year old then I did when I was 20. But at least I was there. So many of the people I use to know from that era are dead. I will see if I can find a pic of Michael.
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 4:05 amWow Derek, Thanks!!! I am slowly remembering Michael Angelo's face. It will come back to me. If you have any pics of him, that would be great. It took me awhile to figure out how to upload. Peter managed to get it in the middle of the page; I think the web-administrator put mine at the top with the other pics as I didn't pick the location where mine is displayed. Lonnie is another one I think I remember. I used to go to Gino's before discovering The Odyssey, and very occasionally Peanuts. When I finally got a real (fake) ID, I was able to go to more places because it said I was 21 (when I was actually just 17)!
Derek, were you part of the 1976-1979 crowd?
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 3:48 amMy pics didn't post what did I do wrong? Michael Angelo was unique looking. He had a pug nose and almost asian looking eyes. He was in Thank God it's Friday as a dancer. He was the DJ at Ginos for years where I met him. He put together the Cosmetics. The Cosmetics originally performoed in the Trapeze Room at Circus, the orignal members were: Michael Angelo, myself (Derek) aka Lesbiana, Viva, Victor Manuel and Lonnie Carbajal. I worked with Michael from 1980 to 1990 when Peanuts cancelled the show then he moved to San Francisco where he died in 1996.
-
Sep 09, 2008 | 3:40 amHi Peter, I also know that we know each other thru the John Febbraro connection. Mailbu Barbie's name I remember so well. I remember Michael Angelo's name and remember I knew him but no memory of what he looked like. It wasn't until I saw the uploaded pics from Rick the Lightman that I also recalled the Odyssey manager's Nick the Greek and Woody. There also was a very blond, goodlooking guy named "Mark America" that would say to me if were were driving past the brand new (at that time) Pacific Design Center aka Big Blue Whale; "Wait, let me run in here for a second...", he would go in and about 10 minutes later would come out and I'd ask "What did you buy?", he would say "Oh, nothing" and he'd be pulling out all this stuff from his bag. Seems in the time he ran in there...he had shoplifted from three different stores!!! I was stunned and would peel out of there ASAP totally convinced I would be arrested with him as his get-a-away car!!!
Did you do background work on either "American Hot Wax" or"The Buddy Holly Story"?? A bunch of us Odyssey-ites all signed up at Central Casting and worked on those movies. I actually got cast in a small role on a tv show "What Really Happened To The Class of '65" because I drove a friend to the audition and they cast me instead...(the friend was not a happy camper when that happened!!!).
But Alas, more of this anon...I to my occupation go.
Chat again soon!
:-)

Sep 09, 2008 | 1:31 am
Hey Kevin, just call me Peter. Now we're on a first name basis. I'm glad you remember me even in a passing way. It was hard not to know everyone in some little aspect. It was such a regular crowd when you and I went. I hung out with Manny, Lonny, Dana, Leslie, Michael Angelo, etc. There were these twin brothers that were really good looking. I know one was gay but I'm not sure if the other one was. But they both danced together and were really good. I do miss those days.
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 4:44 pmPFields, I absolutely remember you. I think we both had friends in common and would hang out when the 2 worlds overlapped. I happened to read a post from July from Gary aka BlueEyes..If its the one I'm thinking of...Gary and I were very close friends back then, and he even came to visit me in NYC once.
Scott Palermo (passed away in 1982) and I went to High School together in Canoga Park, also with a guy from NY named Cliff Bossert (not sure what happened to him), a real sweetheart of a guy named Joey Matthews (who also passed in the early 90's); anyone remember Hobart Ellis? or Harry Silk?? or Jamie who worked at Disneyland??? Its amazing how I am now massaging the old Odyssey memory muscles in my 48 year old brain and the names are flooding back! :-)
Love & Hugs
p.s. We all had such pretty hair back then...didn't we PFields?
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 4:37 pmShe was one of the few drag queens that was that tall and still looked like a woman. Most drags that big look like football players but she was very feminine and very pretty. She used to lip sync a lot of Aretha Franklin songs.
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 4:28 pm
I definitely remember Sugar. She was roommates with my friend Rosie, Lorne and Dale when they had a house on Normandy back around 79/80. Sugar used to "turn tricks" ocassionally and had left for the evening. She had this Donna Summer wig complete with the bangs and Rosie was wearing it posing in all the album cover poses and cracking us up. Now, Sugar was TALL but she still wore HIGH heels and we thought she would be out all night but we heard her heels clicking on the porch. Rosie panicked and ripped the wig off of her head and THREW it in Sugars bedroom. When Sugar went into her room, we heard her scream "WHO'S BEEN F**KING WITH MY GODD**M WIG!!!!!!!!" We were on the floor of the living room laughing our asses off. I was about 17 and completely new to the scene, but it was a terrific initiation to Hollywood life.
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 4:11 pmYes Sugar was a friend of mine, she did a show once at Circus and used to perform at Peanuts. She was sweet to me. I believe she died a long time ago. She was quite an impressive figure.
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 2:28 pmDoes anyone remember a pretty classy hermaphrodite named Sugar?
She was a big black gal; tall (about 6'5") and she had HUGE Bongos that she was so very proud of (I think a Dr. in Mexico built them for her).
If memory serves me correct she was also a porn star, she would come into the Odessey and Peanuts usually later in the evenings. Sometimes she rode a Harley and other times she drove a Benz.
I loved that gal, whenever she would arrive, she would pick me up and basically throw me over her shoulders and dance.
I was and still am 6'5" (a 28" waist back then/gone now) however it just amazed me how she would just come in and swoop me up like I was nothing.
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 10:13 amOkay, Paul E, now you have my curiosity up on how you edited your picture. I don't see an edit option. Care to share the knowledge?
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 10:11 amI just submitted a photo from Peanuts 1987 and me now. The Peanuts pic has Kenny who did Grace Jones.
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 10:08 amDerek, you're right Asian is of course correct, but I've been kicked past Kansas to Missouri! I just went back
and cropped her out anyway.
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 10:04 amYes I do remember that too... I heard in 1984 when the Olympics came to town LA wanted a clean image and all the female and male hookers were chased out of town. On Sunset you had three girls on every corner wearing those thigh high boots. Oki Dog was a hooker hangout for the male hustlers.
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 9:32 am
Sorry, that should have been "male" hookers. Not "make" hookers. ha ha.
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 9:31 am
My biggest memory of the first time I drove to Odyssey was going down Santa Monica Blvd from the Hollywood Fwy. Once you got past Highland, there was wall to wall make hookers on the street all the way to the French Market Place, most of which wore tiny little Daisy Duke cut offs. I have to admit, I was shocked then. You don't see that anymore. The funny thing was, toward the end of the evening, you'd see a few of them at the Odyssey.
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 8:44 amFinally, this is me back in the day.

-
Sep 08, 2008 | 8:41 amI never left LA although sometimes I wish I had. The changes are subtle I only really notice when someone puts up new pics of how it used to look. I will say Santa Monica Blvd looks better now, back then it looked kind of ratty with the train tracks in the middle, it definitely looks more upscale now.
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 8:33 am
I'm going to call that group of girls the new "Sparkle Motion"
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 8:24 amPeaches had different color hair every week, but it was most consistantly black. She claimed she got ALL her fashion tips from drag queens! LOL
Paul, everyone looks great but I think the whole group was after my time there. I left for San Francisco in 1980, then NYC in '85 where I've been ever since...(except for a brief stint in London). Yeah, its amazing how all of it changes...the Odyssey, us...we all done grown up, thank god!! But really fun memories.
Its great to be alive to talk about it! :-)
Peace & Love
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 7:31 amOK Paul you are showing your age, Oriental is for a rug or vase, it's asian now. I've had asian bf's for about ten years now, if I called one Oriental I'd be exiled to Kansas.
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 7:20 am
Then she missed out on a FUN time.
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 7:09 amI've just been corrected, the oriental girl on the left did not go to the Odyssey.
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 6:05 am
And what about Herb?????
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 6:05 amMy life in the early eighties revolved around the Odyssey and these two girls. Christy Tai and Stacie Meyers.

15 years later I married the blond. We've been together for 11 years, and have a son thats now 10.

Here's a pic of quite a few of our friends, all Odyssey regulars from late '79 to '83/'84

Anyone out there remember any of these beauties?
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 5:59 amP.S. Didn't Peaches have bleach blonde hair at some point?
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 5:56 am
By the way Paulenorton, can you explain how you embed a picture in your text post? That's what I've been trying to figure out.
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 5:52 amWOW, I can't believe those pics, boy do they bring back the memories. The first one with the club info must have been 1983 or so because in 1979 the door charge was cheaper. Even so $8.00 was A LOT of money back then. If you figure gas was about 75 cents a gallon and a new car around $8,000 bucks. Compare that to today. I spent many a night on that patio, thanks, 28 years just came flashing back to me.
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 5:49 am
Wow Kevin, I DO remember seeing you at the O. We may have talked once or twice, I don't really remember, but I do remember your face.
Paulenorton, that picture is so depressing when I think of all the fun I had in that club and in that patio. My most vivid memories are of sitting back there with friends and someone would ALWAYS try and jump in over the wall to avoid the cover, but they always got caught.
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 5:09 amWow, paulenorton! Those are amazing pix!! I spend so much time in that patio area back in the day. I sat out there and smoked with my friends for 3 years. And I remember the gas station on the other side of that wall and how one could get towed away if parked there. I don't remember the outside front being yellow color, it must have gotten repainted. I remember it either being white or light grey.
I submitted 2 pictures and they only used one. But there I am. My hair went from having a 'Shaun Cassidy' feathered part to the one in the pic as I was evolving into my 'New Wave' period! Eventually, it was dyed black cherry colored and spiked to an inch of its life. The Cars and the Sex Pistols changed me from a disco bunny to a 'Devo-droid' slacker!
Thanks for the pix!
Love & Peace!!!
-
Sep 08, 2008 | 2:16 amEven though the doors are boarded up, this photo def. brings back memories. Anyone else?

-
Sep 08, 2008 | 2:03 amThanks Kevin, I'll try again.

-

Sep 06, 2008 | 12:27 pmI tried uploading my pic but I kept getting something that said I had hit a roadblock...<sigh>.
I'll try again soon.
PFields, did you register a profile? I had to do that first before it allowed me to the space to upload a pic (or try to).
-
Sep 06, 2008 | 10:10 am
I'm either getting too old to work a computer or I'm just addle headed. I tried using the "submit" button at the top and it never gave me an option to include a picture. How would I add a picture to this post if I wanted to?
-
Sep 06, 2008 | 9:00 amWait a minute...the tall, big framed girl with the dyed black hair was PEACHES!
Ah, the memory is slow but the name will bubble to the surface!!!
:-)
-
Sep 06, 2008 | 8:28 amMark Hill !!! Oh how I would fawn over him when he made me my cranberry/grapefruit mix!!! I thought he was sooooo dreamy!!! LOL. OMG, I completely forgot about sitting in Jack's RR. I was always amazed how we would just show up at his Bev Hills mansion and just acted like we belonged there! I loved Adrienne, she was alot of fun to hang with. There was also a really tall, big framed girl with dyed black short hair (was that Bubbles?) that was a great dancer...she even went on "The Gong Show" but got gonged by Jaye P. Morgan. Steve Sunshine was another guy that we'd hang out and he was this madly funny queen. I miss John Febbraro!! He went on to play the role of Alan in "Torch Song Trilogy" on B'way. He was a great friend.
He really was hysterically funny and very outspoken...(which got us into trouble sometimes)...It was that Gravesend, Brooklyn upbringing.
Plastic John LaPeer was another wild one from Orange County; he drove a lime green opal and was a nurse at a hospital in OC. We called him Plastic John because he spent HOURS perfecting his hairdo then would use a whole can of AquaNet to keep it in place. He would always say to us as one embraced him.."Oh Don't touch the Doo". !!!
PFields and Malibu Barbie, I know for sure if we saw pix of each other from back then, we'd recognize each other. Thanks Karen, I'm gonna try to upload a pic of me from back when.
Chat soon! Love and Hugs!!
-
Sep 06, 2008 | 6:39 amMark Hill was the bartender down stairs. who was the soundman, Wes ? the records would skip before they put in the sand boxes that went from the Dj booth clear down to the ground! He also did the sound in the tropacana. Yes 'Adrienne' was Jack Haley's granddaughter, and Jan took some of us to Her house or where she was staying, and once to Jack Haley's house, He had a Maid that was very Big and black like right out of the movies. She was very sweet and made us all breakfast.Playing music in Jack's white RR car. Blain,Bubbles,Fat Pat,Miss Par,June,Eric,Dewhite C.,Tom R.,Ross,so many others, thier face's in my mind but their names are a faded past, Lance ?, Leo?, one of many light men, each year they would add more lights to the show.
-
Sep 06, 2008 | 3:46 am
KAREN, I LOVE YOU!!!! I've been asking how to submit a picture since I first got here and you're the first one to explain. If I ever meet you, drinks are on me.
Skinny Kevin, I definitely remember John. I used to see him at auditions all the time. We both walked outside background at the diner on "What's Happening." He was hilarious. He kept telling me "won't the audience notice that the same two people keep crossing back and forth outside the window?"
Did you know John was also up for the lead in "Trick or Treat" which finally went to Tony Fields? Tony has also left us now. He was a buddy of mine. He started out as a dancer on Solid Gold and eventually had a role in "A Chorus Line." He did several other things after, but Trick or Treat and Chorus Line are what everyone remembers him from.
-
Sep 05, 2008 | 6:53 pmgo to the top of the page and puxh submit and follow derections-copy this pace so it will be sent to this site
-
Sep 05, 2008 | 12:20 pmHad a GREAT phone chat with Chuck E. the other day. 2 Hours and we still could have kept talking...so many people to remember...
and 'Adrienne' was Jack Haley's granddaughter.
Another great friend from back then was John Febbraro. He had a small role on "Welcome Back, Kotter" and starred in a movie called "Hell High" as 'Dickens' with the acting name of Christopher Stryker.
Sadly, he died in 1987 of the big A.
Check out his picture on IMDB, he might look familiar to some of you.
Anyone remember that androgynous doorman at Gino's: "Lee"?
He looked alittle like Riff Raff from Rocky Horror, only prettier!
I can't seem to recall Mark (the bartender downstairs) last name?
Lastly, how DOES somebody upload a pic here?!?
Thanks again Odyssey Ones!..Peace and Love! :-)
-
Sep 05, 2008 | 9:20 amChuck, sorry I missed the party. It is hard as I work with seniors with Alzheimers on weekends. I had forgotten about the juice lid coming off and almost hitting the needle...how funny. Did you go back and read the ordeal I went through to get there that night? Hitch hiking up La Cienega in that outfit after car trouble? LOL Good god, if I had that on video.
-
Sep 05, 2008 | 9:14 amSpiderlady? Sounds vaguely familiar...but I do remember Lizard Woman from Gino's...now there was a character. I could live to be 100 and never forget her. I wish I hung out more at Odyssey but truth is after 1982 I only went once in a while, I was too busy working the show at Peanuts. I saw something that did make me sad, on Youtube, a clip from Xanadu where Lonnie Carbajal is a backup dancer during Olivia's "Xanadu" number. I forgot who cute he was. Anyone know how to imbed a pic on here?
-
Sep 05, 2008 | 2:35 amHey Skinny Kevin:
I was there the same years you were so it's very possible our paths crossed. Your car description sounds very familiar but I know I never had the pleasure of riding in it.
-
Sep 04, 2008 | 8:03 amChuck and everyone
I am sorry i could not make it to the Comedy store (i was on vacation) i have been reading the postings.
It sounds like everyone had fun! I WILL be at the next get together.
Chuck- I will call you this week
David- Hope all is well with you
Richard Linderman- where the heck are you?
-
Sep 01, 2008 | 4:34 pmHey PFields, its very possible we could have met.
I was quite the social butterfly back then!! LOL.
The hard part about getting older now is that I can see all the faces in my mind and remember very few of the names. I remember that Chuck E. or Donny or Kip ended the evening's festivities (before the lights all went up) with LAST DANCE by Donna Summer. I had a car back then (my mother's old '67 Thunderbird with the suicide doors), so I was always giving people a ride to breakfast or sometimes taxi service to the next party. There is this really run down flea bag motel at Sunset and Highland (its still there looking EXACTLY the same as it did in the 70's) that we all used to go and hang sometimes after the club closed. We would pool our money and rent a room there ($25 a night) and either hang out more or all just crash out. There would be one bed and 10 people all asleep on it. WILD TIMES!!!
Its amazing to me I'm this quiet homebody now in New York City.
Anyone from back then, please throw any names out you can remember, it might jar some of mine loose from this addled brain of mine!! <grin>
Love & Peace!
-
Sep 01, 2008 | 12:01 pmThere was a girl named susan at the party but sorry didn't get a last name
ChuckE who was taking the pics of everyone at the comedy store? please any and everyone that took pics please send them to my myspace or e-mail Thanks

Sep 01, 2008 | 5:49 amhmmm.... Pat Moore (why does that sound familiar) was Pat Moore the other half of Stacy & Pat?
Oh WoW! - - I just remembered a name - - Susan Miller, does anyone know what happened to her?
The last thing that I remember about her was she moved back to TX.

Skinny Kevin:
You sound so familiar. I know I met you back then.

Aug 31, 2008 | 9:13 pmOh man, I remember their names now...Donny Blanton & Kip Johnson!!!...(Hey, sorry Kip for the memory at Norms!!). I could swear I recall Malibu Barbie! :-)
Cherie Currie I remember very well. I don't know if Chuck E. remembers this but I used to be a disc jockey at a radio station in the Valley. You drove out with me one morning and did an all disco show at KCSN 88.5 FM in Northridge. It was a popular show that morning and I remember alot of people called into Chuck E. for requests.
Damn, its been 32 years since I first set foot into The Odyssey!!! I will try to remember more names from the 70's period.
Love to all :-D
-
Aug 31, 2008 | 8:24 pmWow, The Odyssey!!! I ultimately lost my virginity there!! :-)
I used to be a regular on Fridays and Saturdays from 1976-1978/79.
I was known as "Skinny Kevin" back then...All the memories I have of that place, hmmm...I will try to remember some names first. I remember "Mark" who was the downstairs bartender, was very very handsome and very sweet to me (I had a mad crush on him) and he dated the thin, gorgeous dark haired guy who used to work the door. Then the characters like Robbie Jagger, the late Tommy Lasorda Jr., Michael Fotland, Teeny (the 6'5" humoungous drag queen), I recall hanging out with the granddaughter of Jack Haley (The Tin Man) and once going to his place in Beverly Hills to meet him after being at the club all night, My dear friend Wendy aka Shegundalah, the 2 old fat guys that sat at the bar; Eddie the Hat and Eddie the Mouse, who both wrote gossip columns for the gay rags. A guy named "Ace" who had a gay son and daughter and used to hang out at the club with them. Besides the terrific Chuck E. Starr, there were 2 other DJ's back then too...(I can't remember their names anymore...one of them had a small part in "Thank God its Friday" as the DJ; the other I remember used to get so wiped out on Ludes and then pass out at breakfast in Norms on LaCienega. I also remember a great dancer and personality named Jossler who lived in Glendale and went to Hoover High School. I remember dancing with Kristy MacNichol and her brother Jimmy; Leif Garrett used to come in sometimes; Joan Jett and all the members of The Runaways. I remember that great balcony overlooking the dance floor and the bar up there. Going to either Norms, Arthur J's, Drakes Too (now Yukon Mining Company on Santa Monica), Ships, or Cantors on Fairfax for breakfast the following mornings as the sun rose. It was so damn fun being a teenager in the 70's!!! I recall sometimes we went to this dive Gino's on Vine St. to go slumming before meeting up with friends at the Odyssey. Those were fun days for me but they had to end (growing up is hard to do!). Thanks to whomever created this for the happy memories!!!

Aug 31, 2008 | 11:25 amWell Hello Everyone, The Chuck E Party was a blast and I'll bet anyone who went will agree that when the time comes for the Big Reunion Party that it will be a night to remember. It was so good that so many people got a chance to see each other again. Karen was so busy trying to get everything done herself that she forgot to have fun, but in the end all worked out for her and she had a few dances afterall.I cant wait to see the pictures that Karen will Post.

Aug 30, 2008 | 7:23 amIt was getting late, passed 3:30 am and I was thinking to myself where was i going to sleep for the day so I could come back to this way cool nightclub tonight, it was so long ago but if I remember right I was picked up by some guy We all know from the ODYSSEY 1, Chuck E. Starr you see seemed to like blondes and I was one, and if I remember right He ask me to go home with Him and a guy named Danny, I think? It's all kinda foggy but, I said yes and when the club closed I went with them, I had a car My black 1960 falcon three speed and parked it in the back of this motle We stayed in, a little dump next to the Sunset 500. We slept all day and when the sun started to set it was time to do it all over again. When we got to the club I met Scott H. for the second time, and I was ask to do a job for Him, He handed Me a Hand full of cash and the keys to the company van, a big white one. Scott told me to go the the sunset 9000 building where the Playboy club was, and to give the cash to someone there and they would give me quarters for it, and I was to bring them back to ODYSSEY 1, You see the quarters were for change in the game room, pool tables and pinball. It was a trip to say the lest, and this is how I started to come to work for Harpo, and the club We all call The ODYSSEY 1.
-
Aug 30, 2008 | 6:33 amAs fast as we ran to the dance floor the song ended and back to join the others We left behind at the table. Like Butterflys going to flower to flower We would move from table to table, Eddie N. stood and turned to Me and said: "I would like You to meet Scott H. and Bud H. the club owners" I shook their hands and stood in ahh. As Eddie talked to them I could not help to think what a cool place this was. Not knowing yet that I would be working in this cool place they call ODYSSEY 1.
-
Aug 30, 2008 | 6:02 amI turned away from the bar and there were My friends Jerry,Robbie,Mike,Jay E.,Eddie N,Kenny B.,sitting at a table before I could sit down some song made jerry and robbie scream, and they stood up and pulled me up the five steps running to the dance floor. There were these Disco Balls four or five of them spining with spot lights coming from out of the walls hitting them and sending light every where, neon going this way and that way, mirrors and more mirrors, colored lights spining from the roof, strobe lights making white flashes now and then, and the Black Light that made it all so cool if You know what I mean. I looked up to see who was playing records and I did not see anyone I knew(not yet anyway) but there was this short guy spining the beat in way I had never heard before mixing Disco with rock and back and forth that would make your head spin. Miss Star (Chuckie)had a way of blending it all together that would make any club kid scream and run! yes run! to the dance floor, from the patio or pool room just so they could dance to the song on the plater.

Aug 30, 2008 | 5:31 amThe drive was quick and I paked in this alley, I could hear the thump thump from the club they called ODYSSEY 1. Mike said come on and we walked around to the street side of things, and there was this line of pretty people standing there waiting to get in. We waited a short time and someone asked us if we had ID and we said yes and before you knew what happen, We were stading on the top step with these girls in front of us yelling at the door man this all the ID we have, and the door man said to them: come back when you have three photo ID's and we will let you in and He sent them away. June looked at our ID and said ten dollars please stamped our hands and we were in this club called ODYSSEY 1. The first thing I seen was this long bar that went from the door to what seemed like the biggest dance floor I had ever seen pretty people three deep try to get drinks, and the sound was thumping, Mike O. turned to me and said see you later and their I stood in this new club alone but not alone I could see others that I had danced with in the old club and this place was cool with plush carpet under my feet and lot of lights coming from the dance floor. I turned to my left and rounded the door booth to some stairs and i went up, then not knowing where it would lead to, but my head spining with all the new sites and sounds at the top of the satirs was a big room with a long bar across the the front of the club and a rail with that over looked the dance floor, with bar stools you could sit on. To the left were a set of bathrooms. Then a quick right and a short walk I could see a two pool tables and four or five pinballs around the room. I said to my self this is cool, then i could see a set of stairs going down they took me to a quiet sort of place you could hear the the thump of the dance floor, but it not as loud and a bar along one wall by this time I needed a drink and there was Mark H. tending to our needs. He said what do you like and i said give me a cocconut and it was start of a new nightlife for me one i would never forget.
-
Aug 30, 2008 | 4:49 amLike opening night Thursday 1977 I had to work, day late and a dollar short. Last time i was to the club it was Xmas 1976 on Vine street Gennos II I think was the name of the Place, was small but always packed with pretty blondes and glitter queens. But this time I walked up them stairs to find the club void of anyone it was a friday night and it should be pack but it was not! where did they all go I asked ? the barback ... some new club was all he would tell me to keep me in the club I was at, just then Mike O. walked in the place to find me sitting there all alone, I said what happen to all the pretty people? I said, Mike said do you have ten bucks and i said yes i just got paid and he said if you give me a ride I will take you to the new club ODYSSEY 1

-
Aug 29, 2008 | 4:21 pmScott Harvey was my brother - really. He died nearly 20 years ago of AIDS. His real name was Bevan, and I named my first son for him. It's wild to read these stories of the club, and to see these pics of him - I miss him dearly.

Jul 20, 2008 | 3:20 pmWow! I've been looking for this on the Internet FOR-EV-ER! And this is the first Google search that this has appeared for me! What memories!
I, too, was a regular Odyssey-goer from when it first opened, till about 1979/1980. It too was home to me, although most of you probably never knew me. When I wasn't on the dance floor, a group of us would hang out at a table in the area just before the exit to the patio. There was a woman named Cyndi (heavy-set, 30's, short red hair) who would more or less hold court at this table. She was like our designated den mother to all of us. She was always there to talk to, and to return home to when we were done dancing for a while and needed to recharge. She kind of adopted a group of us; and new people were always welcomed. When we were done dancing, back home to the table and the our 'family.' She was truly wonderful and helped a lot of us in many unspoken ways. She'd even play yenta for us with guys we thought were cute (she'D get their attention and call them over to our table!). God love her. Thank you, Cyndi!
Others in our group were Scott Palermo (a great dancer, very flirty, outgoing, friendly - unfortunately passed away about 1982 due to AIDS), Steven Sunshine (a friend and very fun, funny, and positive person to be around -- well..with a name like THAT! -- it was indirectly because of me that he publicly came out -- fun friend!); Mark Maggiora (the love of my life for a very long time), Jim Giese (also now deceased), and so many others whose names totally escape me at the moment. I met folks like "Fat Pat," Chuck E Starr, and Michael Angelo - but mostly in passing. But I always felt like the Odyssey was 'home' and I always felt included, welcomed, and loved.
I remember the night Paul Jabara was performing there. Amongst others, he sang "Shut Out" -- which was a song he wrote about his own first experience trying to get into the Odyssey 'without his ID!' -- only to retreat to the arms of Donna Summer (who did a guest appearance on the song!). Right then, I was on the dance floor, in the crowd; watching him sing. At one point in the song (which I knew EXTREMELY well from beginning to end), he would go "OOOOOOO!." I remember at that moment I thrusted out a closed fist in his direction -- to emphasize his verbal exclamation. When i did that, he glanced my way and nodded his head at me with an acknowledgment to me that translated "not bad!" I'll never forget that single moment in time.
I remember staying until closing until 4 or 5am. And then going back to our parked car across the street in front of the Cleaners (that is now a Good Will store). Someone would bring out a boom box and put it on the hood of the car and blasting some more great dance music. We continued to dance right there in that parking lot right on Beverly Blvd -- until dawn. Then it was usually on to the (then) Louisiana Purchase (now the French Market) for an early breakfast.
It's sad to hear of the passing of Scott Harvey. I remember always having a huge crush on him. The irony is that I don't think I ever once met him face to face. I remember him from back at the Sugar Shack out in the valley, and then the Odyssey, and even the short-lived "The Other Side" (which was across the street from the then "Paradise Ballroom," which I seem to recall was briefly named "Our Side."). I was relatively naive back then and more shy than I would have liked. I remember Scott would monitor the parimeter of the dance floors (at all three places, over time), and whenver I'd glance his way, he would always seem to be watching me. (Me in my light blue over-alls and high-heel sneakers! Yikes!).
Has there been any other progress made in planning an Odyssey reunion? I *still* live in (now) West Hollywood; less than a mile away from where the Odyssey was, and pass by where it used to stand almost every day on the way to work.
//Gary

Jul 16, 2008 | 11:53 ami think an O reunion is a great idea- if only there were more people that knew about it. i don't think it can really be planned in a matter of a few months. personally, i don't know anyone on this site (and i went to Odyssey several times a week for 5 years). i feel that this site is just as "cliquey" as Odyssey was. if that's how the reunion will be, i doubt i'll have anything to do with it. like some have said, many people have passed away. my buddies over the years were, Lisa Ant, Lisa Lebon (good friend of Lisa Ant), Jason Menard (still my best bud- here in SF), Karen Jacobson (former Roxy/Rainbow goer until i turned her onto O), Alex "soft cell" Briuer (passed), Christy Betts (from Newport Bch- reconnected this year), Eddie and Jeannie Chow, J.R (latin hottie), Danny (skinny latin twink), Venus (beautiful spikey blonde hair also from Newport), Lisa Willouby (gorgeous- make up like Siouxsie-lived with Christy Betts), Mark Fonseca (skin head- huge cross and bird head earrings- or anything he could find), Launie and Deanna (my best friends from El monte), Steve Owens (eurasian cutie from the Valley- moved to Scottsdale), Michelle Levy, Larissa Collins (reconnected this year), tall Rodney, Randy Lasseter from Torrence- worked the door at O (passed), Louie "Raven" Martinez (self proclaimed satanist from OC), Sharon Curry (OC), Kim Angelos from OC- gorgeous- became herion addict :(, Austin Eason from OC (passed), Stevie (bow wow) Kirkham, Doug Orlando (little bleach blonde hottie from the Valley that i had a HUGE crush on), Derek McDaniels (dumped me for Adam- lol), J.R Moran (my first boyfriend- handsome stud from Hollywood)- those are just a few that i can think of off hand.
i can cough up $20 bucks but being that i live in SF i really can't do much more to help out right now- other than just get the word out there and try to find more people online. it doesn't seem that anyone is really interested in the Odyssey myspace either. that's cool... i've got my memories (which is all i really need) and have dedicated most of my myspace to Odyssey and KROQ music... and i did find one of my old boyfriends (Jay) on the Odyssey myspace so i'm pretty pleased.

Jul 16, 2008 | 8:35 amWell Derek, I for one bet you looked really hot in your blond wig, miniskirt and go-go boots. Besides, back then, we all looked a bit freaky to those not in the know or too boring to try. It was such a fun, and often glamorous, time for us all. We used to really get into dressing up and looking unique. I remember shopping the Aardvark and other groovy thrift stores for cool party frock dresses, mod clothes, punk/s*** wear etc. I still look back on those days and think what a truly wonderful and ecclectic crowd showed up nightly at the O. We used to light that place up with our unique fashion sense, incredible dancing skills and truly outlandish behavior. The Odyssey was like the coolest place to be back then, with others such as 3 tuna 1, peanuts, whiskey a go go, etc. running not so close seconds. What a time we had!!
Everybody-let's show our support for the Odyssey reunion by pitching in and donating to make the event happen. After all, we (or rather, those of you who didn't make the guest list) used to have to pay entrance fee back then and we were teens. Now that we are older and more stable?, we should be able to cough up $20 bucks in order to get together to reminisce about old times and renew old acquaintances. I, for one, think it would be a total blast.
PaulE, don't blast the site too much, at least it got some of us back in touch with each other. I am so thrilled to have found some of my old friends who have always been in my fond memories.
ANYBODY WHO WANTS TO GO CAMPING WITH KAREN AND I, LET US KNOW, IT WILL BE SUCH A CRAZY GOOD TIME. I GUARANTEE IT. HOPE TO SEE SOME OF YOU THERE.
Christy

Jul 16, 2008 | 4:17 amOne more thing I love about the 70's and 80's, it was all UPBEAT happy music. I hear some of the stuff being made now and it is SO DEPRESSING. Music, television, it was all feel good stuff back then. These reality shows are mean spirited, they set people up to cry and be disappointed. Music is very harsh now. Even the fluffiest disco tune had strings and horns and pretty arrangements. I turn on the radio now and I want to strangle someone after ten minutes.
-
Jul 16, 2008 | 3:33 amNo doubt, Derek you're right. We can only hope for a resurgance of creativity soon. Its about time, it seems like it goes in cycles. The music is so stale right now, kinda like the end of the disco era, when you had only one way to go, and that was up. Should be right around the corner, how much more can the 80's be recycled and sampled?
-
Jul 16, 2008 | 2:55 amI do have a feeling many are dead. A lot can happen in 28 years. I'm sure many people are apread all over the country. I sometimes wish I had gone to San Francisco or some other pretty city. The past will never be repeated but at least we have these memories. I do believe we saw one of the greatest eras ever. The 90's were pretty bland in comparison to the 70's and 80's. Let's face it, creativity is dead.
-
Jul 15, 2008 | 12:02 pmBTW, I still have my bell bottoms with fringe (like the chick in the beach party movies with the blonde beehive) and I can still get into them. I WILL NEVER forget when Chuck E. Starr asked me to lip sync "Kitchen Motors" at the Odyssey in 1980. I was driving with a freind in my 63 Dodge Dart Conv and it blew a rod getting off on La Cienega from the 10 freeway. I was in a blond wig, go-go boots and mini skirt and had to hitch hike up La Cienega to the Odyssey, some black guy in a truck finally picked us up and took us to Beverly Blvd. It was a Kodak moment for sure. God, what a sight that must have been. But at least I made it there and did the thing with my blender. That's probably one of my most embarrassing Odyssey stories ever. I hope no one has pics of that it would scare the crows out of Nebraska !!
-
Jul 15, 2008 | 8:35 amI first went there in June 1979. I was in awe of the scene at that time, Disco was in full throttle, the new wave thing didn't happen until 1980. I went there pretty regular until 1982-83 when the crowd changed plus I was working at Peanuts at that point and didn't go much anyway. It was pretty new wave, punk at that point, the disco thing was over. I remember Serenia (correctly spelled?) I gave her a few rides in those days then she got that Album cover for Rodney on the Rock. I used to get up on the podium next to the DJ Booth and go-go dance when they played a 1960's rock song. The 60's is really my favorite decade. To this day I drive a 60's convertible and my apt is all danish modern!

Jul 15, 2008 | 8:04 amLMAO-yes i wood see lief out all the time but he was dating that girl from family ties at that time-he had no hair but at least he didn't look as he does now-Can't believe I had such a crush on him but I have seen Shawn casidy-my kiddo has done a couple of his shows and boy O boy is he still one yummy creature AURRRRRR. Derek what years did u go to O-I wish my gf wood hurry up with my photos, I was a younger version of Sarienia but in ripped levis or teddy's/if you remember Allison n Stacy-I was the one with the cleo due on the podium with them-except if siousxie was on that podium was mine or when I could get chuckE or David to play Apache by sugar hill and anyone that didnt like sign of the times by the bell stars can kiss mine O I just remembered set it off was one of my song and 1 more shot. can u find those for me spark?

Jul 15, 2008 | 5:25 amI haven't seen Stacie in several years, I ran into her at the Gay Pride festival maybe 7-8 years ago and that was the last time I saw her. I remember one night in August 1979 when Leif Garrett came into the Odyssey with Tatum O'Neal, they were both gorgeous in person, a shame what they both got into later. But If I had to marry John McEnroe I'd be on crack too !!!

Jul 14, 2008 | 5:41 amYes it is sad that more than half of the people I used to do shows wih are no longer living. Plus after Odyssey burned down Peanuts went to an 18 and over format and we got many of their old patrons who had nowhere else to go.
-
Jul 13, 2008 | 6:19 pmi dare you to play it and try to sit still.. :)
-
Jul 13, 2008 | 6:15 pmremember when they used to play "you" by delta 5 at odyssey!? it was absolutely my favorite song then (besides lucky number). it's actually how i discovered siouxsie and the banshees (i was a siouxsie virgin up until then)- when i asked someone one night at O, who did "you" they told me it was siouxsie- i immediately bought "join hands" thinking it may have been on that particular album. the song titles weren't on the back so i couldn't tell if it was on there or not. needless to say it wasn't- lol. i haven't heard it in a good 25+ years until just now. i'm so excited!!! it's on playlist.com. it brought back some really wonderful memories- and brought me right back to that magical dancefloor (as i bounced around my bedroom). :)

Jul 12, 2008 | 5:51 pmI didn't say it was filmed at our Odyssey just that it was filmed at a club called the odyssey-K Boyz
-
Jul 12, 2008 | 2:16 pmI believe a scene in the movie "American Gigolo" was filmed inside Odyssey on the dance floor, at least that is why I started going, my friend Darryl told us he knew where the club in the movie was and that first night I met Phoenix and kept coming back more and more. Later I think a scene in the movie "Night Shift" was filmed at Odyssey. "Saturday Night Fever" though was all based on Italian characters on the East Coast living in Little Italy so I don't think any of it was filmed at Odyssey.

Jul 12, 2008 | 7:44 am
I used to get so annoyed that clubs would play "It Feels Like I'm In Love" by Kelly Marie about a thousand times a night, but they never played "Run To Me" and they usually had never even heard of it. I liked Run To Me a lot more than "It Feels Like I'm In Love." Trying to get any DJ from any other club other than the Odyssey to play Bamalama was impossible.
-
Jul 12, 2008 | 7:22 amExactly, these radio stations that play Funkytown and Boogie Oogie Oogie drive me crazy, you never heard those in a club back then. You did hear "Rockit" by Lipps Inc but not those radio songs. I wish these stations would play the real deal.
-
Jul 12, 2008 | 5:53 am
In the film, it was called the 2001 Odyssey. It was in Brooklyn and it was a real club, but I do remember seeing the film and thinking it was sooooo cool that it had the name Odyssey in it. It somehow made the film seem more real even though most of the music sucked in the film. The one thing that bothered me was they chose a bunch of AM radio disco and not music you actually heard in good clubs. I don't remember hearing the Bee Gee's more than once or twice at the Odyssey and I don't think I ever heard Chuck E play Disco Inferno or any Yvonne Elliman.
-
Jul 11, 2008 | 8:53 pmSorry honey, SNF was filmed entirely on the east coast.
-
Jul 11, 2008 | 8:44 pmDid you know? Saturnight Fever was filmed at a club called ODYSSEY
-
Jul 03, 2008 | 7:42 pmIt's an absolute trip to read this thread after I simply posted a comment on youtube for Slow Children's spring in fialta. I made reference to the Odyssey and someone lead me to this site! My sister Genelle and I used to dance our asses off on the cool side of course. I used to tear it up if I say so myself! (at least in my own drunk a** mind) tisk tisk tisk (to "Stand and Deliver" no less) Does anyone remember a girl named PJ who used to work there for a short while in Spring of 82? How about Lori Riddle? Anyway, the odyssey was a unique place that could never be duplicated in any decade. Plus who could ever style their hair so perfectly anymore!

Jun 30, 2008 | 9:24 amChristy, thanks for the sweet message. Yes it is fulfilling. In 25 years of working in an office I never felt proud or useful untilI started doing this part time. Other countries treat their elderly better than we do. We will all be there one day if we are lucky to live that long.
-
Jun 30, 2008 | 8:55 amDEREK-Good for you. That is wonderful that you have a job and love it. I quit my job as a real estate broker, rented out my house and moved in to care for my grandparents for a couple of years. My grandfather was in diapers and has pleural neuropathy, so, I had to bathe, feed, dress, change diapers, etc. for him. My grandma had a hysterectomy at 78 years old. Unfortunately, they nicked her colon and she almost died before she got a colostomy bag. So, I had to bathe her, feed her, change her colostomy bag, etc. In addition, I cooked all meals, cleaned house and cared for their dog. It was really hard work-but, I felt good about doing it. Otherwise, they would have had to go into nursing homes. I ran out of money, so, I moved back to LA to make some more. Now, my uncle and his fiancee take care of them. But, I know what you mean, it is definitely satisfying to care for elderly people since so very few are truly cared about. KEEP IT UP, YOU ARE DOING A TRULY WONDERFUL JOB AND MAKING A BIG DIFFERENCE IN SOME PEOPLES' LIVES.
EVERYBODY ELSE-GO TO CHUCKE'S PERFORMANCE, YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!

Jun 29, 2008 | 8:00 amHey Derek~
For the life of me, I know that we know each other. I had totally blanked on Stacey at Peanuts.... They used to live by me in the Valley - - Stacey, Pat and Susan Miller. I have often looked for Susan over the years however haven't had much luck in locating her. The last thing I remember is that she went off to Texas (Austin, I think). Anyway hope all is well with you and yours, life has changed for many of us since way back when..... I am in NC these days and working strong in the corporate world. Oh yeah..... I think Chuck E has a few more years before he hits the Big 60...... Anyone know what happened to Woody?
Bob
-
Jun 28, 2008 | 8:58 pmWhatever happened to Fat Pat?
-
Jun 27, 2008 | 9:49 amGlad Chuck E is still around he has to be about 60 something by now? If you read this Chuck remember that song Kitchen Motors? I had the hand held mixer in your booth at Odyssey that night.

Jun 21, 2008 | 2:49 pmPfields-thanks for the description-if I saw you, I would probably remember you. I was quite the little social butterfly. We would love to have you come and hang with us anytime.
Don't listen to everybody, Margie and I know how to party, but, we're not that scary. Everyone else is just scared. We aren't half the partiers we used to be. Would love to meet you (again?). Hope you can make it to the Comedy Store on the 25th of August.
Karen, that's cool about Chuck e's tommorow. I can't make it anyway. On my way out with some friends now to shoot some pool. Will talk to you later. Say high to yummy white cake for me.
MUAH,

Jun 20, 2008 | 4:00 amHi Christy. Sorry Ive taken so long to respond. Describe myself eh? Okay, Im Italian and Greek, 57, brown hair and eyes, average looking I guess. I hung out with Manny, Lonnie, Dana, Michael Angelo, Leslie, two twin brothers (blond) whose names escape me now. But most of the crowd I hung out with was professional or semi-professional dancers. We all were either in the same shows or were at the same auditions. I still havent figured out how to upload a picture on here otherwise I would post a picture of me from back then. (can anyone explain how Id do that?)
I knew who Chuck E was and is, but back then I think I only spoke with him a couple of times when Id request a song. Im not sure if hed remember me. Probably not.
Karen, hmmm, do I have the cajones to join you all for fun? Wow, could I even keep up? You all are a bit younger than I am. And I was never much of a partier or drinker, but I could certainly try.
You all are much better partiers than I could hope to be, but Ill try not to embarrass myself!!!!!
-
Jun 18, 2008 | 6:01 amHi PFields,
I started going to Odyssey in 1980-when I was 15. I am a 5'4" Eurasian girl who used to dress in vintage dresses back then. Then I switched to leather minis and bras and bustie's (? spelling). I used to hang out on the right side and dance on the podium a lot. I had short dark brown, then black, then kind of magenta hair. I knew a lot of people-maybe I knew you. If you care to, describe yourself back then or name some of the people you hung with.

Jun 14, 2008 | 4:49 amwow,
Head still spinning, bringing back some wonderful memories.
A little reluctant to jump right in. Not much of an e mailer or B board aficionado, but really wanted to acknowledge the effort that you folks have made keeping this post together and impact the Odyssey had on all of us. Plus the retro photos of the parade floats really did it for me!
I still remember (1 of about 10,000 memories) New Years eve 1983 when (maybe) Chuck E Starr? Spun 1984 Bowie-it was kind of the beginning of the end. Why that particular memory now? Who knows, the lights that hit Jason in the head were still f#&g cool! 1982, 1983, 1984 perhaps on the late wave for some of you but still special to me.
As Jason mentioned I am in Baja California Sur/Cabo area where I have some property and am developing a small pension/hotel and beach club/restaurant on the sand. Or at least that is what I think I am attempting to do. The water is warm, the skies are clear and its exactly what the Dr. ordered! Who knows it may be an old folks home for the wayward x disco freaks still stayin alive
BTW- a big thank you to all of you folks who were there before me and during those fantastic times. DJ's Chuck e Starr, all of the pioneers, risk takers and taste makers. You are all amazing! Thanks for making it far out for me! Some of the longest and strongest relationships I have are the leftovers from that era. Marc B and Jason are far better sharing (and remembering) the stories.
Mark B, I miss you and hope to see you soon. Our phone conversation for Jasons birthday was way too short. I had just landed and was on my way out a day or two later.
Karen, Karen, Karen....great to know you are still full of teen spirit! I would love to see you! We had great times during those O days and quite a bit after. Jesse, Jason, Pokey, Marc B., Mikey, Damon, Todd, I could go on and on. blue eyes!
I booked that room at the Bel Air Sands and remember the closet incident and poor Hassan crying. Poor Hassan, he was always a good spirit and fun to be around. Got to see him with Jason a year or two ago. I remember the getaway car in Palm Springs, the lemon 714s & rorer, sushi on sunset, we had some of the most incredible times.
Hi, Christi Thai! Dont know if you remember but hello anyway and hope you are well! You snuck me in too!
(Nutshell since I have seen you some of you last)I moved to San Francisco for aprox. 13 years, (after marc b. left to holland) developed a few restaurants and Nightclubs (silly isn't it!) and most are still going strong. I spent a year in France (got to visit marc b in holland a few times), then to Morocco, Thailand, Vietnam, Brazil, Singapore, a few other places -bla bla bla, etc. over the years for projects and a bit of time in Las Vegas for some mega project. For some reason they accepted me back to school at Stanford University and I commuted between SF and LV finished that out. Destroyed a relationship or two and am repairing myself in a quaint little beach town in Mexico-enough said. I will be back in LA soon.
I am lucky enough to see Jason and Jesse as much as I am able when I am in town. I was in contact w/ mike (Seymour) for a period of time-married to a very nice English girl he met after his stint in the air force; they have two beautiful children and live in the valley. Thats about as much as I know.
Karen, I am sorry about the Danette and you thing. I think we all have a few scratches and bruises from the past. I am certainly trying to fix a few relationships, breaks and hurt feelings I created when I can. (Still trying) Don't worry I am not giving advise! Just still working on my own f$@#k ups! Hoping some people will forgive my stupidity and asinine behavior. All a rite of passage, I think? Some of the people you mentioned or asked about I don't have a relationship w/anymore so I get where you are coming from. I hope to see you soon.
Also my hope is we all have evolved to be somewhat different than we used to be. None the less I would love to see you before youre too burned out on Nostalgia and the other memories from the dark side!
AND THANK f%%$^G somebody that we are all still here and alive to reminisce.
Best,
A

If you are coming north on the 405...
Exit at Inglewood Avenue, turning left onto Inglewood (south)
Cross under the freeway
If you are coming south on the 405...
Exit at Inglewood Avenue, turning right onto Inglewood (south)
Cross the railroad tracks and then turn right at the first light (Manhattan Beach Blvd). Continue for about 2 miles, then turn left (south) on Sepulveda. Continue on Sepulveda for 6 blocks. Mr Pockets Sports Bar is on the left, look for the white sign with the Mr Pockets logo.
From the Beach Cities
We are 6 blocks south of Manhattan Beach Blvd on Sepulveda
Remember that in Manhattan Beach, Pacific Coast Highway (PCH)
is called Sepulveda.

Jun 12, 2008 | 11:14 amLet me know...
I'm just off the beach, just near the b-ball courts, so Sidewalk Cafe is less the two blocks up the boardwalk... pretty sure I could make it... even on these battered dancer's knees of mine!
I spoke with Mark B. and Andrew (PBZ) about the site... Mark is the one who told me about it and Andrew asked me to send him the link, so he should be in here soon.
Mark, thanks for the hit-back! Last I saw of Dion/Mark was in or around '96. Mike Pantel's parents had adopted Dion (unofficially), so he may have been living with them for a time... I believe they're in Hancock Park...
Did someone say LADS!?! Hilarious, I ran into Alex on MySpace, I should tell him to come in here... I was always jealous of him and Christina A. but it was better than all those nights of Rodney Bingingheimer trying to hit on her at the club... Jeez she and I were about 15 and Rodney seemed 105 at the time!
Ah, the mistakes I've made.
See you all then, then.

Jun 12, 2008 | 6:58 amok letz see if what i write post now Damn!
Jason I remember that nite so well at the hotel, What a blast all of us 2geather. Me and Yasmin hit it of from the get go. I knew it was going to be one crazy nite the minute jesse answered the door in nothing but a leg warmer on 1 leg and the other on his arm,blk panties crawlin up his assetz the brightest Red lip stick on and his hair in two little piggy tails hehe. I'll never forget the look on the bell hops face, shakin his head and sayin "is that? No it can't be" me an yasmin in the bed lookin naked screamin for him to hurry back into it. That scream jesse let out when he opened the door was classic.
The nite did start out great as we hit sushi on sunset but 1st u took me n Yas to the corner liqor store 4 that huge bottle of tequila n we started our own little party with the chefs down stairz-that when hassan started his little hissy fit because he didn't know where i was, I was at my witz end with him anywayz by then after that crap that happened to me at Pokeys plus u telling me that he did go out that pryor friday an was seen with another girl but thatz another story so back to this one hehe
well since he wanted to be that way, i broke up with him and i think what really tied up his panties was Miguel Nunez was hitting on me on the stair case as we were trying to cart our drunken assetz up those stairs lol.
I remember getting up the stairs and most everyone was already passed out so we started back to the suite, Hassan tried killing us in my car on LaCienaga but got pulled over-that chilled his a** enough to get us there-me n yaz were in that closet for a long long time weren't we I mean a really really long long time hehe
That would have been a great show me n her had planned out but Hassan ruined it for everyone. Jesse told me that she did get a flight back to NY that next day, do you know if she is still in LA and could you get her number? I would love to see her lol I also still have her teddy from that nite-I know we took pics of all of you guyz in the tub, who has them come on post them please or send them to my site hehe I promice not to share them with anyone!
I LOVE YOU ALWAYZ

Jun 11, 2008 | 7:03 pm*CORRECTION*
Sorry - Wes is "NOW" the owner/proprietor
-
Jun 11, 2008 | 6:58 pmHey Karen (and anyone else that gives a flying fart in a rolling donut),
Have NOT seen April, or anyone really, I've run into Mike Messex and Alexis Arquette a few times, ALWAYS a pleasure!
Andy and I are still brothers, so I see him and Jesse, Hassan and some of the other 'Boys' relatively regularly, but not often enough.
Let's see: Andrew conceptualizes, creates, builds and sustains Bars, Nightclubs, Restaurants and Living Spaces... He's currently living in DEEP Mexico, developing two different smaller vacation rental spots.
I don't know much about the description, but Andrew and Danette are close friends and as far as I know were never exactly 'going out' per se, but they do 'hang out' whenever they're both in town.
Pokey-Loc, I have not seen in at least 18 years... and I hate that.
Hassan - Doing great, clean and sober, living in Utah (single-handedly keeping the Black Population percentage at LITERALLY just over ONE PERCENT!) he's got a Son of his own and a Step-Daughter he's raised since she was three or four.
Wes - Is not the Owner/Proprietor of The Pacific Dining Car restaurants here in L.A. - funny, considering his Dad completely BANNED him from there the night we all went there after that Movie premier and didn't have money to tip, so instead - we had 16 dinners and stole a case of Champagne and 2 cases of Beer foor the after party at the house where me and Cindi were living at the time.
Nate - After years and years of dancing, choreography and the like, he went on to be Music Programmer at a radio station here in L.A. - he's since moved to Las Vegas where he's a contractor.
Jesse - Still right here in Venice with his wife and 14-year-old Daughter. Still acting (though mostly stage-work) and did a few recurring things last year several episodes each of ER, 24, stuff like that.
Holy mackeral, do I ramble (my apologies to the people that don't know or care about any of the above and have to scroll for days to get back to the other stuff)...
Wow, I just thought about it... Do you remember a night at the Bel Air Sands hotel (Now the Angeleno Hotel)... all of those people were there, but we couldn't get (a pre-enhancement) Yasmin Bleeth and [name redacted] to put on the show they promised. Went into the little closet in the suite to put on the lingerie and warm up and the two young ladies NEVER came out to do what they were threatening to do to Jesse for the entertainment of all...
Turns out Hassan was all bent about it, 'cause he didn't want his girlfriend to participate in the tom-foolery, but didn't want to be the party-poop to complain...
Instead, Hassan, Jesse and I end up 3-men-in-a-(jacuzzi)-tub, singing classic rock songs drinking tequila
, smoking the stanky-dank and simply being nekkid and happy for no good reason at all...
When we finally got out of the tub and went back into the room, the girls were STILL hiding in the closet, everyone in the suite that wasn't passed out was gone...
Thus the persisting and hard-pressed rumors regarding what exactly it is that we were doing in the tub - "NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT!" - :-)
That's it. Me? Never married. Two girls, 18 and 19. Just wrapped an on and off a job in the film industry that I'd kept with since the mid-nineties. Still living in Venice... Just celebrated my 40th in November '07. Still dance as often as I can. Still a buffoon!
Um... another (too) long one!
J

I will never forget the times Kevin Parr in His Dodge Colt, Tom Ross in His brown Datsun B-10, Dewhite Cloman, in His blue Datsun B-10, and Me, Malibu Barbie(Timmy) in My red Ronda Honda. We all would leave Larry's in north Hollywood and drive to the club and on the way we might see someone we Knew on Santa Monica Blvd and We all would pull Chines Fire Drills right in the middle of the street to pick them up and take them to the club with us. All four cars stopping right in the middle of the Blvd. and everyone getting out and running around all four cars and getting back in, this would back the Blvd. up for miles. I am sad to hear the news from Surfer Boy, that Kevin Parr is no longer with Us, May He Rest in Peace.
P.S. Miss Star Your voice mail box is full and has bin for two years ...so do not say I have not called. (Timmy)
