Jan 24, 2012 | 12:36 pmWOW, What a Hot spot this was. Coming from Throggs Neck in the Bronx in the early 80's it was the place to be. I was there just about every weekend or alternating from Metro 700, Zachry's or Les jardins which was in Suffolk. Anyhow, you couldn't have a better time when the disco hits were spinning and mingling at the bar with the crowd. The 70's and 80's might be in the past, but the memories will live forever!

Jan 04, 2012 | 3:29 pmThe dj was John sorrtino not scorpion.
-
Jan 04, 2012 | 3:27 pmThe disc jockeys were john(fat John) scorpion who spun on Thursday's and Saturday nights and did all the parties, Ronnie i believe did Fridays and wednesdays( these were the nights we did over 35) Steve Thompson did Sundays and I don't remember who did Tuesday's. I know that tommy nappi used to fill in sometimes. This group of talented djs also used to spin at channel 80. Steve Thompson used to do a great job when he worked some nights at speaks for us. Rock and roll at its best. Mike corcione was basically the house dj at speaks. Tommy tunes did rumors. Monday nights were great there because all the clubs were closed and Phil knew that they wanted to party somewhere and we used to have glass garden the band play also. Vinny was the manager for years there until we turned rumors into a catering hall called le petite jardin which rocked for bar and bat mitzvahs, sweet sixteens we even did a few wedding there. It just seemed for years we could do know wrong. We just kept trying to do the right thing by people and they would just keep coming to our clubs.....it was really great....people really felt a part of it not just that we took there money. We really knew everyone and everyone knew us. I really believe that comfort zone had everyone keep coming back. From the barbacks to the bartenders to the doorman to the djs everyone was friendly to everyone. I can honestly say that 231 had the best crew. Everyone just jelled together. If someone was a s*** stirrer I would get rid of them the crew and even customers would say to me how they liked everyone that worked there. That was so important to me as the manager. I really worked hard at it. I always looked at it was one big party and everyone should enjoy there time there.

Jan 04, 2012 | 3:09 pmI remember those jumpsuits the hostesses wore at the club. How about the slide show that we used to show on the wall by Monti bar. Everyone used to love seeing themselves upon the screen. As a matter of fact the photos were In black and white. But, if you saw your picture and it was in color, then I would give that person a black jacket with the 231 logo on it. Everyone wanted something that said 231 on it so we obliged at just always had different giveaways whether it be a t shirt, sweatshirt, visors or whatever. I remember going to the beach and seeing people wearing visors and t shirts. I think the more I would see people wearing items I would give out more. We also would do everything in assorted colors. Back then jimmy Brett used to basically charge us a dollar for everything except the sweatshirrts were more. In the scheme of things it was nothing and everybody appreciated the amount items we would give out every week.

Dec 13, 2011 | 7:45 pm231 was the place to be especially Thursday night. Insanity at its best. I still have people coming up to me and as omg it is Dennis from 231. People really felt like they were apart of history....of which
They were I guess. I tell people some stories or should I say experiences and almost stare in disbelief. Unfortunately Phil passed away years ago and Joey b died while riding on a motorcycle and just recently Phil's son Frankie died at the age of 52. What a cast of characters between management and club goers. It seems like yesterday I was handing out or should I say throwing out to the crowds on the dance floor 231 t shirts and 231 sponges. People used to kill to get these items. It just added to the craziness. Or how about at 10minutes to 4am I would push John the dj out of the way and take off mellow music and bang I blonde. The place went nuts. Instead of calming down the crowd....people left shaking or the time I rode Antwon's Harley onto the dance floor or had Gerry Coolney come onto the dance floor to the song eye of the tiger. Let us not even go there about the fights we had....oh well all part of the circus

Oct 08, 2011 | 1:22 pmMy friends and I traveled from the Bronx every weekend to go to 231. We had a great time there. I recall one of the bouncers was Tony. He was very nice to us when we went there. Miss those days! Always had a crush on Tony too but never let him know. Stopped going there when my ex husband showed up one night. He ruined everything!!! typical, ha ha

Apr 24, 2011 | 12:17 pm231!!! OMG!! WHat a awesome club. Made so many friends from the Bron-x, Queens and even S.I.Was 22 yrs old in '82 and got friendly with the whole staff. John at the door was the best ever. After he kept seeing me come to the club every Saturday, he let me park my '66 custom Mustang in the fire lane at the front door. LOL!!Hung there every Sat from 82 to 84, Channel 80 was also awesome. Phil B had these 2 great clubs and I miss the hell out of it, even today. New Years Eve was beyond belief at 231. I bought 2 bottles of Moet every Sat. for $20.00 and shared it with everyone!!! The music, the clothing, it was all swanky, classy but not piss elegant, just the best place to be.

Jan 18, 2011 | 5:54 pmI was a waitess at 231 for 3 years. Dennis was the manager and Phil Basile was the owner. I also worked the afternoon private parties. I can vividly recall how exciting the club was on Thursday nights. Channel 80-their sister club was also exciting during those years. I worked with Ellen, Owen, Ronnie R.DJ- Karen-too many names to list.

Sep 02, 2010 | 2:32 pmFrom 1983 to 1988 it was the hot spot. I came from Throggs neck at that time and it was frequented every weekend with my crew from the Bronx. It was a blast. Times have indeed changed as we all get older and move on with out families, but if I could live those days again the memories are cherised forever. It later became Gil and Ernies, but for me there was never a place like 231!!!
-
