Anyone remember Uncle Sams on Hempstead Tpke. in Levittown, L.I.N.Y., right down the block from Decamarons. Another great club on the Island from the mid '70s - mid '80s. Uncle Sams was full of beautiful women. Music was always hot. What a place, what a TIME! Where did those yesteryears go?

OMG... UNCLE SAM'S, Late 70's early 80's.... Aside from going to Manhattan, This was the place to be.... Even Madonna performed there, then she became so famous after that. It was the place to see and be seen....those were the days.....best music, best fun, and I'm glad to still be alive to talk about it....LOL

I lived at Uncle Sams between 1979 and about 1983. I was the guy dancing on the speaker every week. Place had the hottest girls of all the LI clubs and the best music. I remember seeing Madonna there in 1983.

  • RK

I lived at Uncle Sams from 1979 through about 1983. I sued to be the guy dancing up on the speaker every week.

  • Joe M

Joe - Do you have or know of anyone of the girls we worked with, that have pictures of us from the first Halloween Party? This was the first one where we worked as girls? You were in the 50's outfit and me as the Playboy Bunny!

  • Ed ODonnell

I lived at this place for 3 years in the early 80's used to travel from the Bronx every weekend after my friend Paul told me about this place,I lost touch with everyone and that is to bad because they you were all great and we were all such good friends, but with no cell phones or any other kind of communication other than a telephone it was hard. Miss you all and I always think of you guys. Uncle Sams was the best place ever and no place can ever compare
    Eddie from the Bronx

  • Jeanne

Loved Uncle Sams. I worked as the Cocktail Waitress for a few years in the lounge. Enjoyed the lights, people, fun and tips. Glad to have lived through the disco years. All the people I worked with were great. Jeanne

  • Rachael

Wow, Jeff!!! you're so lucky. My favorite band for their first American show when no one knew who they were over here. You don't happen to have any pictures, do you? Any cool stories of any of these bands?

  • DJ Jeff Yahney

I had the opportunity to work for a short time a Uncle Sams during Spit Nights...and got the chance to see Duran Duran, Blue Oyster Cult ( which were billed as
Soft White Underbelly back then)...and even Madonna during a regular night.

  • Vicki

I remember passing by this place as a little kid and seeing all the people go in and wishing I could go as well. I did many years later for teen night and then Saturday nights at Spit in the early 90's. Good times. Good memories.

  • steve

Used to get in free. It was one of my dads customers. Place was amazing.

  • Russ M

    Rachael,

The 80's weren't everything that people say it was, they were BETTER! After that decade came and left I stayed in touch with the club scene even as I got older and believe me when I tell you. NOTHING compares to that 10-yr period when it comes to partying and havin' fun.

  • Suzzane

Hi Joe, do you remember Donnie and Billy the bartenders at Uncle Sams?

  • Rachael

My favorite band, Duran Duran, played their first American concert at Spit in fall of 1981. Did anyone happen to see them?? would have loved to have seen that, but I was born in 1984. :-(

  • Susan

Does anyone know what happened to Keith? He used to be the manager at Uncle Sams.

  • joe

I was a bartender ..best time in my life
i was in freshman in college and opened the place with
    chris fusco
    tom mclaughlin
    steve melita
    flip
    scotty
    ed kane
    laura t. and many more
    i could write a book!

  • gigi terrasi

This was the best club on Long Island at the time. Wish I could relive those times again. This was the place to see and be seen. Went every weekend. You had to go into queens or NYC to find a better club.

  • gigi terrasi

OMG. This was the pace to go on a Saturday Night in the Late 70's. Met soooo many cool people there. I had some wild times there, also at Spit.
    But I liked US better.......

  • Elle

I went to Uncle Sam's in Levittown once a week. I met the LeClique Fantasy Players there at several of their theme parties. My friends and I were so inspired by these actors that we built props to use at their parties. On Valentine's DAy they held a St. Valentines Day Massacre party, and we built a cardboard and wooden reploca of a Model T Ford which we 'drove' around the dance floor. The fantasy actors joined us inside the car, shooting at the crowd with their imaginary guns. If anyone has pictures of that, please post them. We also came as ET the Extra-terestrial and his friend Elliot on Halloween, for which we won some incredible prizes, like a ski trip for the four of us. Le Clique liked our work so much they invited us to join them in costume and with out creations at several NYC disco parties they did. I have gone on to polish my craft as a performance artist since then, but I got ny start at Uncle Sam's in Levittown!

  • Kerry

This was the best club on LI. I worked there from 1981-1987 as a cocktail waitress. Met sooooo many people, have soooo many great memories. I try to explain to my husband what it was like....guess you just had to be there. Im glad I was. Love to you all

  • Steve G

id be back there in a heart beat.amazing place

  • Russ M

It's 2010 and we're still talking about Uncle Sam's! I truly believe that this is not being overly nostalgic, but just a reflection of what a great club it was, and what a great period in time it was for clubbing and partying.

  • Suzzane

I loved going to Uncle Sam's, this was the place to go. So much fun!
Whatever happened to the owners, did they ever open up another club or resturant?

  • Steve

Uncle Sams was the best club on L.I. and the first city type club with one of the best sound systems (three turntables, etc.). Mike Arato was one of the first Dj's, then came Stuart, and Bobby. What great times in that place. The cocktail waitresses were beautiful and so were the women that visited. The place was so big.

  • peter gallert

SPIT WAS THE PLACE TO BE AT THAT TIME 1986,87,88, 89 & I THINK 1990. SURE, THERE WAS OTHER CLUBS LIKE MALIBU,REDS,SPIZE, ETC,,. THE SOUND SYSTEM AT SPIT WAS INCREDIBLE. I MET MORE WOMAN THERE THEN I COULD HANDLE. I REALLY MISS THOSE DAYS. BUT HEY, WE ALL HAVE TO MOVE ON.

Unlce Sams was the place to be back in the day!
Whatever happened to the owners, Mike, Tony, Doug, etc? Does anyone know? Its been awhile, I've been out of touch with everyone.

  • Mike G

Uncle Sams was my hangout after I got a little tired of the city. Spent many nights at Sams and Spit circa 81-83. The place was great!

  • DJ Jeff Yahney

DJ's Mike Arato, Charlie Bailey, Bob Malgiolio, Steve Thompson, Bryan Cronin, worked there. I had the fortunate opportunity to also work there a very short time... a few times during regular nights and with Bobby M. during SPIT nights....I DJ'd Nick the owners wedding... the other brothers were not as fortunate as I heard some had run ins with the law...They were great times...I am sure there are some of you out there that have pictures to post...it would bring back some great memories

  • Dorothy

If I could just go back to the 80's & stay there! That was a time of just dancing ... wherever you may have been. I loved Malibu, Double 007's, Spit and of course Uncle Sam's. Hey ... want to let you guys know that Zachary's has Classic Disco on Friday nights. THAT'S RIGHT ... ZACHARY'S IS OPEN TO TREAT US TO A PIECE OF THE PAST. Anybody ever go to The Millenium in the city back in the day?

I knew Tony and Mike the owners and who could forget the pinball machines. lol. Our bartender was the best. Anyone know if Flipper is still around? At the end of the night they used to play, :Their I go..." Wow, wish they would reopen it for old times sake..:)

  • DJ1Drew

I was a resident DJ at many clubs on Long Island (Mirage, etc.), but I hung out at Uncle Sams/Spit on my nights off. It truly rocked! Great sound system, great light show, and let us not forget the confetti cannons. Good times.

When I was little my cousin's would get all dressed up to go to Uncle Sams, in the late 70s, they would come back and tell me what great time they had. When I got older, I use to go when it was SPIT "Rocks" every week 1-2X. Had great times, Dancing, Drinking, playing baseball hoops. Meeting hot guys! With long hair and eyeliner...lol I Remember Jill and Joy who would sing, the were twins. I remember Stinky the bar tender, he called me the water girl, I drank water most nights. Doug another bar tender who use to make out with my friend Marion. "just for fun" I met my husband there married 15 rocking years!

I remember many nights in Uncle Sams. I hated Disco but this was the place see beautiful woman. I took dance lessons so I could participate and remember going home many a night sweaty and exhausted. they always ended the night with Donna Summers Last Dance. I never really met anyone there but had a good time, those were the days when I could fit into those tight black disco pants.

When Uncle Sam's opened in Levittown, L.I. in the early spring of 1978 it was as if "Studio 54" had come to L.I. - long lines to get in and a male bouncer in a tux, accompanied by a female, also in a tux, just to examine what you were wearing and deciding if it was good enough to get in! The "inspections" didn't last tong (maybe a month), but it was the biggest and most beautiful club I've ever been in. Just a lot of fun all night.

  • vinnie
