COMMENTS ON THIS DISCO / DISCOTHEQUE / NIGHTCLUB

Wow, I thought people forgot about this place. Many great memories.

A very innovative man took a former grocery location and transformed it into the future with raised, flashing dance floors that, at the command of the disc jockey, would flash to the beat of the music; a slide show with varying current and futurist topics would flash across 8 giant screens. Strobs, disco balls and black lights were at the control of the DJ from a key pad in the music booth, raised above the large, four sided bar, centered in the club. The walls were black; a large game room was in the back and the music played was the most current being played in the trendy clubs in New York City.

The creator of this club was far thinking and hired 2 attractive college girls to 'man' the DJ booth that boasted a Teac reel to reel, 2 turn tables and a collection of 45's and albums that was ever being updated with music, yet to be tested in the radio market.

It was a hot ticket, frequented by locals and college students from Ohio State University, many of whom lived and frequented the hotest clubs in the Big Apple, in the mid 70's.

After a short time, going through intense training on the innovative equipment, only one DJ remained and the club's owner/creator, began openning other 2001 clubs in Pennsylvania, New York and Florida. The local DJ would attend the openings of the new clubs to familiarize the new DJ's with the electronics. Other clubs began to open in the area, but 2001 was, by far, the most unique and exciting.

I never thought, after all these years, I would run across the 2001 logo on the internet. I would like to introduce myself, the original female DJ from the 2001 disco club in Columbus, Ohio. I was known by many of our faithful patrons as KK

I would love to hear from others who were a part of 2001 in Columbus and other areas! Your memories, I'm sure, will be as fond as mine! DJ KK

It was originally a Grants City. They used to host teen dances on Sunday afternoons. What a great time. I remember one time spilling a drink on my future girlfriend. They used to run a a great drink special Monday nights free drinks no cover. My car used to have a homing device to get back to Brockport. DJ's Paz and Bob Adams were the guys I looked up to as I learned my dj craft. Never had the chance to play the club but I always loved the light system that they had. That was what a club light system was supposed to be.
Regards to all. Thanks for the memory

Posted by: fritz | Mar 09, 07 | 10:40 am

SAD BUT TOO VERY TRUE ALL THE DISCO FREEKS ARE OLD AND GREAYING AND DROPING DEAD IN THERE TRACKS ..

THE VAST MAJORITY OF PEOPLE IN THE EARLY 1970`S WERE NEVER HARD CORE DIE HARD PARTY ANIMALS ..THE MASSES ARE LAMERS AND POSSURES AT BEST ..SHOUTING OUT LOUD DISCO SUCKS .. THOUGH IT WAS THEY , THE LAME WHO COULD NOT DANCE NOR DRESS WORTH A DAMM..DIRTY FILTHY HIPPY,R&R TRASH THEY WERE..

THIS IS THE SORRY TRUTH ..LET IT BE TOLD SO OTHERS MAY KNOW!

THESE SAME LOOSERS WANTED BUMP AND DIRTY FUNK NOIES .. PUT TOGEATHER WITH THE ROCK AND ROLL BUTT HEADZ OUR DISCO SOUND SUFFERED AND WENT UNDERGROUND TO COME BACK AS ENGLISH DANCE MUSIC..

YES THIS WAS AN EVELOUTION ..NEXT CAME HOUSE MUSIC .. THIS HAS ITS UNDERCURRENTS WITH CHEAP SOUND LIKE LOUNGE ..

OUR STRONG SOUND IS ALWAYS UNDER ATTACT . HIP

I HAVE BEEN WITH THE PARTY SOUND FORO 35 YEARS ..

I was a DJ at the 2001 in Meadville. I miss those days. Nightlife has never really been the same since that era. Wonder what happened to two other DJs, Craig and Rick. Dj Paz actually used to spin at my junior high dances.

2001 (pre Y2K)
Come-on Warren! It wasn't 25 cent night on Monday - It was OPEN BAR dude! From something like 8PM to 10PM - PACKED of course. Wednesday's were the 25 cent drink night. You see (Warren's my Biz partner) too much fun clouds the memory chips. THEN Friday came - oh boy again! 2 for 1 drink night. Yah I remember the specials and a few other details too fun to mention. You see people, the key is not just drink specials, but the day inbetween to recooperate, ah those owners were smart.
Buy the way, the bar that was across the side walk is still going. That's were I DJ now. 2001 used to be Grants dept. store.
Thanks to all who came to 2001.

THE MASSES ARE TASTELESS FOOLS. DISCO SUCKS THEY SAID !..

ITS TOO UNFORTUNATE THAT MASS MARKETING MUST DEAL WITH DOLTS AND DUNDER HEADS AMOUNG US ..

I TAKE PRIDE IN MY ABILITY TO DISCRIMINATE WHAT MUSIC I LIKE AND KNOW THE SUBTILE DIFERANCES BETWEEN STYLES ..

LETS TALK SOME ABOUT THE PARLEMENTS AND FUNKADELICS ...
THE BRASS CONSTRUCTION..JAMES BROWN..
THE FUNKEY MONKEY JUNK ..I HATED EVERY SECOND OF THERE NOISE ....

THERE ARE SPECIAL CLASSIFICATIONS ,SUBGROUPS OF DISCO WHICH MUST BE CLEARLY DEFINED .

THERE WAS THE SALSOUL SOUND WHICH IS THE SAME AS MFSB ..

LETS COMPARE THIS TO THE FLORIDA SOUND OF TK AND THERE KC AND SUN SHINE BAND..

LETS TALK ABOUT RCA RECORDS AND THERE ONE SHOT WONDERS THEY HAD MANY ...

ULTIMANTLY TOM MULTON WAS THE MAN MR DISCO ... MULTON HAD THE MAJIC ..

I HAD A TASTE FOR THE EURO SOUND SUCH AS THE MUNIC SOUND MACHINE WITH GORGIO MORODER .AND THE MID NIGHT EXPRESS GUY ..

IT ALL WAS AND NOW IS BEING BURRIED AS WE SPEAK..

LEW RAWLS DEAD ... BARRY WHITE DEAD.IKE TUNNER. AIDS TOOK A LOT OF THESE MUSICANS PLUS MANY OF THE DISCO
SESSION MEN WERE MIDDLE AGE AT THE TIME OF DISCO THERE FORE THEY ARE PASSING ON FAST ..

BUYER BE WARE PERCHASING THOSE COMPELATIONS YOU WILL GET ONLY THE SHORT VERSION OF THE RECORD!!.

WHERE ARE THE FULL MIXED VERSIONS ???

RHINO NO GOOD KTEL NO GOOD ..

Does any remember the disco dance show they had on Rochester t.v around 1978 or so? What club did that come from?

Did any of you former dj's ever save any of your mixes from that time? What were some big songs for you?

Posted by: nrgbeat | Feb 10, 08 | 2:02 pm

When did Carol Spalla pass away?
