Flanagan's

2nd & South Streets, Philadelphia, PA, USA

This was a big club in Philly on the South Street scene in the 1980's. One of the best things about Flanagan's was that it attracted a nice crowd from the city, suburbs and also Jersey because of its central location on South Street. The bouncers let girls from the burbs in with jeans, but no same deal for guys. I think Frank Cerami may have been a DJ here at one time. Good songs by Evelyn Thomas, Sweet Sensation, Pretty Poison among many others were played here. The club had a decent dance floor and upper level for some nice conversations to occur. The club became the Tijuana Yacht Club briefly in the early 1990's, then later closed shortly thereafter. Last time I went by there, I think there was a Blockbuster Video Store on the corner. This was the place to be on South Street.

Flannagan's was a good place to go in the 85-87 period. 1988-90, Enchante was the best 10pm-2am club. After hours, we would hit 2nd Story on 12th & Walnut Streets (before it closed), or to smaller places like Stilts on Oregon Ave. Sometimes on Fridays, we hit a club in the old Hilton near Vet Stadium.

Ernie, that's right. My buds (from Neumann HS) & I spent pretty much every Fri and Sat night at LaDolce in 78-80. In summer of 80 we moved to Ripley's. LaDolce operated under other names..Picadililys & Scruples I recall.

Thanks for reminding me of the fun times we had back-in-day.

p.s Other clubs back in the day were Valentinos, the Roman Garden, Winner's Circle, Emerald City, The Chez, Casanovas, Little John's (in AC), Wildflower? and the Sundance.

Does anyone remember a Madonna impersonator routine appearing at Flanagan's and Pulsation's nightclub, in 1985/86 or so? If so, I'd love to get pictures or details since I know the dancer!

Hello All,

I used to spin at Flanagan's in the 86-87 time frame when Jack was the manager. I remember we had a contest where we had a chicken run across a board with numbered blocks. If the chicken crapped on the block with your number, you would win a prize. "Friendly Bob" was in charge of the chicken. I prveioulsy played at their sister club, Popcorns, in the King of Prussia area. Also spent some time at Polo Bay in the Warwick Hotel. Hey Chuck, are you still as "off the wall" as you were back in the day? I hope so. Good times ... good times.
