Wayne Geftman, Barry Geftman and Alan Cohen were the owners of this high intensity "Summer Beach" club in Margate, NJ. Billed as a "Club worth leaving New York for."
The Music Box had incredible sound by Alex Rosner featured Luxman amps, 1200 TT's, bozak mixer & Rosners custom active crossover. On the dancefloor were JBL voice of the theater full range with Rosner's custom bass horns and tweeter arrays overhead. There was not a spot on the dancefloor or bleachers the sound was not intense. This sound system eventually was intalled in "Catacombs" deep under the Second Story in Phila after the "Music Box" closed.Barry and Wayne designed the lighting and it was state of the art for the time. DJ's were Wayne Geftman & Frankie Sestito, both Billboard award winning DJ's this was not a commerical club, it was famous for playing and breaking new music. Many out of town DJ's would frequent the club and the "Eddie Ramos" dancers were a mainstay on the dancefloor.

Mar 23, 2008 | 12:21 pmAll those great Old Jersey clubs had a strong, loyal following. Obviously the MUSIC BOX was one of the more popular ones. Few clubs have REUNIONS, there is too much work involved. But it looks like this one will be one not to be missed.

Mar 23, 2008 | 7:02 amYou are probably right second story, it doesn't sound like we are talking about the same place. It has been sooo many years, I probably am confused. Didn't mean to downgrade the MUSIC BOX, it was a great club, I DID give it a very strong TEN!! It can't get any better then that! How is your re-union progressing? Still go to PHILLY?

Mar 23, 2008 | 4:54 amJust FYI... three of the DJ's won Billboards DJ of the year award and all of the DJ's were original Billboard Reporters plus the club was written up a number of times in NY Club mags.
So I'm not sure we are talking about the same club and DJ's that you are..and or the year this happened in the Disco World.. It's a shame you paint a pretty bleak picture of the Music Box ...but that's your opinion...everybody has one...

Mar 14, 2008 | 8:02 pmBoy did SECOND STORY DJ make this place sound fantastic. It was, but neither the sound system, the light show nor the deejays were in any level EQUAL to New York City clubs. Jersey clubs that made it really big, developed a "Locals" personality, and tried not to imitate a CITY club. And what possible awards did those deejays win? Not from BILLBOARD?? I understand that sometimes we think that some great memory from our past was "ALL THAT", but with the passage of time, HUMANS tend to glorify and/or exaggerate what really happened or how it really was. MAYBE, just maybe, you BELIEVE those things to be true, but they weren't that GREAT. Sorry to bring you down to earth from your CLOUD ride. I went to the MUSIC BOX plenty, it could no way compare to a NEW YORK CLUB. The music wasn't "BROKEN" there, it was simply played there after it came west or south from New York. THAT is the real story, not a biased opinion. Still, I loved this place, and on my scale from 1-10 it gets a strong TEN!!!

Second Story DJ is right.I've known Frank Sestito and Wayne Geftman for over thirty years.I met them at the Music Box.They were both Billboard reporters and Billboard award winners. They were right on top of all the current music as well as
great imports that ended up being picked up by domestic labels. If they weren't breaking records nobody was. Most of the best record labels knew who they were and depended on them for feedback. They were well known as top DJs in the South Jersey and Philly area. That is the real story..........
