LOCATION

47 Norte Dame Ave, San Jose, California, US

CLUB DETAILS

I remember DJ Richard Torres spinning the high energy music, like "Mondolay," "Babe We're Gonna Love Tonite" and Studio favorite, "Boogie City." They had a glass wall seperating the minors from the 21 year olds. It also had a massive sound and light show with a video screen. It was the only club around for 18 and up. We used to drive from Salinas every weekend, and had good times there. Last time I passed by It was a Mexican nite club.

I remember this time well. Good times. When I first stepped into this gig for the first time it was soo awesome. Madonna was blasting with Into the groove, Dead or Alive You spin me around Round-Like a Record, Jesse Johnson Free World, etc. A lot of great music. But the best night was when I danced with the 3 most beautiful girls, regulars in the place, one night. Lisa, Cynthia, Patricia ..magical..

Joe Monroy(R.I.P) we would cruise up in his 72 monte and meet up with Bobby and Carlos Luna. Run back and forth to Sonnys Disco.. Man those days I would love to relive.. Thanks for putting this page together.....

hello...does anyone remember a "mini-skirt contest on stage somewhere around 1988-90? maybe. Where a tall asian girl in a long red dress , took first at last minute by desperate measures and hiked her dress up to her waste to win? lol....it was a very fun night and I was also in that contest. Wondering if anyone took pic that night? Or if anyone took pic the night "George Lamond" made a guest appearance and did a complimentary show on stage (nov. 1988 or 89?) Would love love love to see them.

well I came on the scene when it was the starlight ballroom, straight mex. my brotherinlaw was a security guard at moffett field naval air station and made me an id (later confiscated by us customs, in mexicali) so I was underage and in a musical disneyland, complete with awesome music, muchacas and drink. it morphed into the Disco Odyssey and thats when my fun started, the DeAnza Hotel was one of those divey places and they had a bar in the basement, with an awesome tiny pool table, since the deAnza was around the corner from the club, we would go get primed, shoot pool and strategize for the club. around 10:30 or so, it was time for a smoke and smoke. and then the club, the music beating the ladies breathing and us hustling for a dance partner-it was the time of our lives. check in with friends, hang out afterwards, get some beverages before 2am and go to the parties! party, wait for the riot squad to show up, split and go to the jack in the box, next day; repeat. The people were there for the same thing as us, we respected each other, we were part of the something; frequent party clubbers, if you will. anywho thats what I remember. I thank God for the experience and living to write about it. later.

Joe Aka BIGJOE. |

Man studio 47 was awesome. Friday night was the best times for me. With their lightfloring. If I remember they made it into an 18 side with 21 drinking side. Which they took out the lighting floors. So many clubs. I still club with the wife today. My Highenergy time was in the 90's. Among club Paradice, club OZ, club OASIS, club X, Club B, cactus club, the basement, San Jose live and other clubs. Listening to Carlos Diaz at KCSU from then now in my IPOD :D. The highenergy or freestyle was awesome then. Many friends and great times. Who can't forget CITYNIGHTS,DV8, San Francisco. At a later time for me was The SOUND FACTORY, THE EDGE Palo Alto. Now married with kids. I had a fabolous time at frisco, palo Alto and san jo. Among the wild 107 which now is wild 94.9 and Q96 and power 93. I got the music in tapes tranferring to ipod and updating from you tube. Yes they are there. You can find some there. Man that was almost 20 years ago. 2012 and still clubing at 42 with the wifee.

I think JT? For some reason I cannot reply directly...

I completely forgot how to get back to this site.Forgot to save it.

I finally found it, and just wanted to say...YOU are the BOMB! ;-) Thank you Thank You Thank you. The first song link (get away is the correct one). sounds quite different, but it is the one. Brought back great memories to hear it again. One thing for sure the sound system sure made that song bump with exess dance base for sure! Last question...was there a extended dance mix of this that you know of.

Again...much appreciated. Thanks with all my heart.

Interesting. Now that you say it, it makes sense, he did look more Vietnamese. I used to think it was weird at the time, now looking back, I think it was so cool that he went there to shake his groove thang and have fun. What a great character he had. Wow! I sure do miss those days! Thanks for the info Dmitchell!

dmitchell |

His name was Minh Pham he wasnt Japanese he was Vietnamese. He was the greatest with his dancing. He would wear his suit and bow tie and groove with no care in the world. I spoke with him almost Studio. The coolest part was that he enjoyed having a good time just like the rest of us.

Linda Rodriguez |

Geno r u out there? U always watched out for me and Chris. Anyone know what ever happened to the little Japanese man that was ALWAYS there? I always wondered what his story was.

Hello Studio 47 family~

I am also from the early 80's to early 90's group. I recently have been working on a biography of my life and took a trip down memory lane while sitting by the water. I was locked in a very many memories from this time especially at Studio 47. Today I logged online and googles "studio 47" to do research and found this site, where I was soooo surprised to see the many many people that shared the same memories as I in the same place. My only regret, that during that time I kept to myself, my homegirls, and my dancing and didn't spend much time mixing and migling (except a few occassions with stevie b,johnny o, and george!). Many of you sound pretty darn cool.

Anyway....maybe someone could be so kind as to assist me in two songs/groups that have a deep connection with my life back then...for some reason I cannot pinpoint the exact names. I have a few clues that would help: 1st song-The song came out(or played quite a bit) when the song "chang on me" by cynthia was out, the song had lyrics in it (which I thought was the name of song)" I wanna get a way, far far away, take me to your place....,it was sung by a femle artist. that is pretty much all I know about that one. The second song...I am not sure if it ever became a hit single, do not remember it ever being played on the radio, it was sung by 1 male artist with all male members of band,it "premiered" on the stage during this same time and sang live by the group, and the song was called "shake it like a white girl??".

If anyone could be of assistace in helping me with this information. I would be truly blessed. I need approx. yr. name of group/single artist, exact name of song, and if anyone knows where to find it. I don't have a lot of money at this time to offer for the help, but I would be truly greatful.

thank you "studio 47 family" for sharing your stories, taking me back in time to a wild, but happy place, and making it this far in life to share them.

God bless to you and your families.

I often like to come here to listen to others who shared a moment in time with me and dident even know it.i read ,reminice and feel the bliss with others who rubed shoulders but names i missed.
Life was ment to enjoy .so i did studio 47

JT |

I thought I was they only person who experienced that special feeling Studio 47 gave. I'm glad to see it was shared. I remember dancing and feeling all pumped up by the music, energy, and vibe thinking enjoy these moments they won't be around forever. I made it last as lomg as I could. Good times, good music, good people. Before they put the new building up in it's place they had an interview with the owner on it's historical signifigance to downtown SJ. The owner said he tried to offer kids a place to go to a place safer than the streets. I know for a fact had Studio not been there I would have been a statistic of the streets for sure, so thanks for the memories everyone.

shaka |

I was always one of a few and I mean one or two black guys that went to studio. I kicked it with the
Mods..turtle neck sweaters and tight peg legged jeans with karate slippers or winos. The music and the whole scene was just incredible, its actually worthy of a documentary. San Jose has never partied like that since! Tka, Cover Girls, Sweet Sensation, Company ,B Noel..those were some good times. The smell of smoke, piss, sweat, and pink Aqua-Net Hairspray.

He was the popular "pop / locker" that would have battles in the back. While I was the flirtatious mix of Madonna and every one else. Always in a short minnie, fishnets & heels. Yeah I would dance in the circle...and I would dance with myself by myself. Studio was a Big part on my early life. So many memories...... If I could go back to one more night!!

Damn, reading all these comments about studio makes me sad. Studio is were i got my clubing start at in 1985. Being mixed black and hispanic made it easier for me to get with all the mexican women at the clubs my favorite was club was studio then confettis. Confettis went down hill when it turned to infinities. But studio 47 was the same for years. Where else could you go and see the Covergirls, Sweet Sensation etc..., oh yeah Steve B who seamed to perform there about everyother month or so!!lol Those years hanging out with my cousin miguel and big Kevin Rose were the best days of my life and Studio 47 was a big part of it. The last time i went to a club was about seven years ago. It was sad to see so much hate and testosterone in the club. It seemed all the guys there had chips on their shoulders and wanted to fight. They will never know the fun of just clubing. Not saying we didnt get into our share of fights but our objective when we went out was to see how many numbers we could get, how many girls we could kiss and take one home at the end of the night!!!! ( too many to count). thats it for now......

My dad was the gm of studio 47 from 80 to 89 growing up. I was born in 1980 so studio 47 was an integral part of my childhood. I have about 60 or more autographed pictures made out to me or the club studio 47 courtesy of my pops. He would go to work late and bring me autographs the next day. I still have my stack with the likes of sirmixalot, paula abdul, 2 live crew, cover girls, chico de barge, sweet sensation, debbie gibson, egyptian lover, mc hammer, johnny o, rodney o joe cooley, the jets, jj fad...Those were the days. Now i'm a club promoter and wonder if my parties can ever live up to the glory days of Studio 47.

Traceyann Rocha |

OMG!! THOSE DAYS WERE THE BEST EVER!! I WENT TO ALL THE CONCERTS THEY HAD THERE ... JUDY TORRES, PAM RUSSO, JOHNNY O,HAHA AND I REMEMBER THAT SNEAKING TO THE ADULT SIDE I WENT THERE STARTING FROM 1983 ON THEN HIT DB COOPERS,CLUB MIAMI. MY BROTHER WAS A BOUNCER THERE PHILLIP ROCHA THEY CALLED HIM "HOUSE" OR "BEAR". MAN THOSE WERE THE BEST DAYS OF MY LIFE. I REMEMBER BACK IN THE 80'S WHEN THEY USE TO BREAK DANCE IN THAT BACK LEFT SIDE CORNER BY THE SPEAKER.. HAHA MAN THAT WAS BAD!! IF THEY ARE STILL MEETING EVERY THIRD FRIDAY AT MILAN CAN YOU REPOST IT I WOULD LOVE TO GO TO SEE IF I RECOGNIZE ANYONE. OR IF ANYONE KNOWS ANY OTHER CLUBS THAT PLAY OLD SKOOL AROUND SAN JOSE AREA POST IT PLEASE. I HAVEN'T BEEN OUT IN A WHILE AND AM SINGLE FOR 6 YEARS BUT DON'T LIKE GOING WHERE MY DAUGHTERS HANG OUT.. Hey Doreen. Angie Yepez is my cousin. I told her about this site. I am also a die hard studio 47 girl, thanks to Angie who introduce me to Studio 47 at the age of 14. Thanks cousin.")

Geno Garcia |

I remember all the good times there. I used to have so much fun. I was the one selling roses and mostly dancing. I know everybody had a good time there

Doreen Castaneda |

Well my friend Angie Yepez told me about this site and WOW it is cool to see that so many people are on here and know half the people I know LOL I am a die hard Studio 47 girl. The first time I went there I was 17 and was on the older side. I remember thinking DAME a disco Disneyland and I was hooked and was a faithful groupie till it closed. So many memories and good times the best times of my life will never be forgotten. On facebook there is I went to studio 47 in the 80s by David Lujan and he does do a studio flash back ever third Friday of the month there is going to be one this Friday 6-19-09 at Milano night club 394 S. Second St. in San Jose behind Club Wet I think it starts about 9:00pm. It would be so cool to see you all there we are trying to get more Studio 47 people to go pass it on......

Anoni Mus |

I met a filipino girl there in the late 80's named Ednalyn Caalim (I think that was her last name)does anyone know of her

Denise |

I love Mothers disco. One night studio 47 was closed for a private party and someone outside of studio told us about Mothers. My boyfriend, my sister and I went. We had so much fun there dancing and making new friends. I never forget Mothers disco.

Patty |

Boy oh boy - studio 47! WOW! Does anyone remember MOTHERS disco in Santa Clara??? That was another bumpin' place to be on Fri/Sat nights.

Jules |

Started hitting studio when I was about 16 or so then moved to the 21 and older side. Lots of good times and some bad. Place was rowdy toward the end of the evening but the music got better as the night passed. Met some interesting people and saw some great dancers. I loved it when people just went to have a great time, not to look for trouble. It was a break from the guys in our town. I remember Morton the bouncer...he would shadow me every once in awhile to make sure I was okay and would walk me and my friends to the car to make sure we were safe, especially when we drank a little too much. The bouncers usually kept everyone in check. Studio 47 was a kickstart to everyone's Saturday night. A lot of the real action started outside the club, at after parties, and during cruising. During the late 80's and early 90's, I hung out Shakers, the Terrace, DB Coopers, Paradise Beach, Toons, and the Palace. Still see local DJ Carlos Diaz every once in a great while and he has played at some of my family events.

Nancy |

Check this out...FACEBOOK has a I went to Studio 47 Group and aout 250+ members. You may find a friend or two on there. Good Luck!

jim |

Hi, Just A note-studio 47 is gone I am sorry to say. about 6 monts ago my buddy and me were looking for studio 47 and could not find it on noter dame street, well it has been demolished and about a 12 story building is in its place 6-4-08. The old parking is still there. I had some of the best times there. From haveing drinks with the stars after performing to dancing to a massive sound system and light show. Rich and sometimes Camron Paul and many other D.J.'s. I also draged classmates, co-workers and friends there too. I have found most of the music they played including boogie city. I still play them time to time. I have a lot of great memories of studio. I read one post and a reunion would be a blast, A good start would be 94.9 and if anyone remembers new year at the convention center? Could we find enough hair spray, If you were a regular you know what I mean. The girls did not look bad, They were high class and very nice. Anyway I have very few pictures and I would like more to enjoy some memories of studio 47.

janelleg |

David S.
I remember a David S.

jewllzs |

I mentioned in my post about a Studio 47 Reunion. I printed this out and gave it to Pierre who runs Miami Beach who also works for Harry who owned Studio 47 and I told him about this site. You may run the idea past him (Harry) and see if it could be done at Miami Beach, they would need to do alot of advertising on Radio to get the word out and I'm sure there are alot of people who frequented Studio 47 who are unaware of this site. Miami Beach is a nice place has three dance floors, good size place. I bartend there on Friday & Sat Nights. It's a Salsa Club and gets packed both on Friday & Saturday Nights.

David S |

So, are there any thoughts on throwing a Studio 47 Reunion Party????

We could try and get some of the original DJ's who played there; rent a hotel ballroom, hall, or even another Downtown nightclub... Advertise, get the word out, etc.

It could be done...

P.S. I remember the "girls from Femont."

Lisa |

ooh my goodness. Robert Pagan. You made out with my best friend Sylvia. Remember us, The girls from Fremont. Thanks for checking on the song.

Julie Price |

This place was THE S**T back in the day. Hey we need to have a reunion at some club so we can see every one that would be so cool! This was the only place for minors to go to. Unlike most of you I knew BIG MIKE on the 21 side and always got in to party with the older people, but I had my days on the minor side. I met my real first boyfriend at college and we used to go faithfully. We danced our butts off. Then Studio West was a favorite in SF every Sat night me and Valerie Moore would go up there and party til it closed at 5 a.m. Back in the day dancing was my life. Oh Yeah Radical Rich who could forget him, he played off the hook music and mixes, there will never be another club like it, these days the way the youth dance is bump and grind like they are f**king with clothes on, nothing like what I remember the dances we did were the cabbage patch, roger rabbit, the running man, the freak, the rock etc. Those were dances and lets not forget the break dancers hanging out in the back. After the club there was always house parties on the east side, crusing king and story, the victory outreach people LOL, it's a trip to think back to these days definately some of the best party years of my life, and the other happin clubs, boccasios, studio 80, the terrace, db coopers, la rocks, oasis, the back beat, there were so many good ones, but my main hang out for a good 10 years was studio 47! LOL Now I'm a bartender at Miami Beach been bartending for 9 years now. It's a trip to be on the other side and see the youth parting it up way different than when I was there age. Now Harry sold the building and it's gone! I remember my first bartending gig, it was a Stevie B concert at Studio back in 1999 it was crazy busy! I miss that place but have some great memories. I would drag my best friend Veronica out every thursday night it was off the hook, and then again on sat night. On friday we would go out to campbell to the clubs there either the terrace, or la rocks or where the elephant bar is now.. used to be a club, although I can't remember the name. I will try to post a photo of myself

Robert Pagan |

I found this site (DiscoMusic.com) on accident today. Wow, I also remember Studio 47. What memories I have from that place. I worked there with my brother Richard Sanchez AKA: Radical Rich. from 1985 to 1989. What a time that was. I remember the breakin' crews showing up from all over the bay, groups of people dancing with themselves in front the mirrored DJ booth and on their stage with the lit up back wall.
Thursday nights were off the hook...every weekend. Thanks for the flash back. I'm going to show Radical this site. I think we have some stories and pics to share.

Lisa,
I will check on that song and post it if possible.

Lisa |

ooh my goodness. I probably know all you fools. My husband and I both hit the floor at 47. Does anyone remember the name of this song and who sings it?

Cause baby, I'm the one you want
I'm the one you need
Your the one that I adore, so baby come to me.

Denise |

I remember my old hang out Studio 47.In 1983.My sisters and I would dance the night away. Studio 47 is were I met my husband of 17 years. When I was 15 and he was 19. I love you Studio 47. Denise ")

victor |

everyone went to 47!!
the lights, the music, and the women, thanks what i remeber about studio 47.
sex appeal, booggis city, desiner music.
DJ richard sanchez, richard torrez, cameron paul and the battle of the dj's.
those days are gone, but we all can still remember them

Liz Q |

OMG!!! tooo funny. Talk about taking it wayyyyyy back. My best friend and I would hang out there every weekend just about. Rain or shine, we were there. We saw Stevie B, Jaiya, and Sapphire there live. We were always trying to find a way to get in on the 21 and up side. Busted boyfriends on the 21 and up side a bunch of times! It is really sad that the youth today are not able to experience or have the memories of early clubbing like I do. San Jose in the 80's was the place to be!!! VIVA LA Studio 47! you member' Frankie?? hahahaha!!

Frankie |

Studio 47! My first club experience at age 15! Me and my best friend took a picture sitting on the big rattan chair with our hair bear do's. That was on my 17th birthday. They had some bad a** dj's playing the best music! Me and my friend would do the ritual walk around the dance floor to check out the hot guys and then we would hit the dance floor and dance non-stop until the slow song came on at the end of the night. Big hair, mini skirts and red hoop earrings...Aahh, the good old days!

Veronica |

Yeah, I remember I spent my 21st B-day back in 1985, I remember the division for the 21 and under and I was with my brother and his little 14 year old skaggy girlfriend and I had to hold her dumb a** hand cuz it was so crowded; I just wanted to cross over to the other 21+ side and dance with the older finer dudes however I was babysitting the little twit. But the music was cool and the ride from Frisco to San Jo was
smooth. All the hits in those days are making a comeback in todays music; I guess there is no originality anymore.
It's funny how my now 20 year old daughter asks me what did I do in the olden days.

rubyzsanjose |

"47" Was the place to be and place to be seen in your minni skirt, pink pumps, leather jackets, 501's, Guess Jeans as thigh as they can be, the $1 coke drinking it out of a plastic cup hahahah and SMOKING in the club. Let's not forget all the fights in the club, and the Victory Outreach people hanging outside. I think that was one way they could party back then.

I did have the best time of my life hanging with Hilda Z.,Cess,
Jessie H., George, Melissia M.,
the guys from RedWood City.

I was sad to see that Studio is no longer standing in it's stop, and the parking lot across the street is totally gone.

Oscar Deleon (UC Berekly) if you read this please reply.

Nancy |

There were so many places to hang out and have a good time back then...
Bocassios, The Terrace, L.A. Rocks, Bank Exchange (SF), Confettis, Garfields, Studio 80, Studio West (SF),just to name a few.

It was a time of just pure fun, some drama, but people just had a good time dancing!

Yes, that is me in the picture, many, many years ago!

*SIGH*

Well, I guess I will be the first Break dancer to leave a STUDIO 47 post. I will take memories of this place to my grave.I loved the freaks I already had plenty of fine girls, I was only there for one reason. To own the floor. Well the little bit of floor the Breakers claimed. In the back of the club. I was one of the few white boys that would be there. Me and my friend were also on a HAMMER & LEWIS commercial anyone from San Jose who wore BOGARTS, ZOOT SUITS, OR NEW WAVE clothes knows HAMMER & LEWIS. To all my friends back in the day I miss and love you guys.INCREDIBLE KURT, If you ever see this I love you brother. didn't ever mean to lose touch with you. (THE WONDER WHITES) # 1

I visited cali before and my friend Serg took me to this club. They played that song "Party Your Body" and dude I was soooo rad out there on the dance floor! I did this ninja turtle dance and everyone like tripped bro! it was nuts. Everyone got in a circle around me and started clapping. It was great moment. A couple of months later and hundreds of hoochies later I had to go back to florida. None of my friends believe me but some of you reading this might remember that night.

Amber |

there were so many heart breakers at this club. DJ scorpion used me and then messed with my girlfriend Sylvia Castillo. I slashed his tires though one night in the parking lot. Revenge felt so good. LOL

Randy Moreno |

I used to be called the "mack daddy" over there at Studio 47. When I walked in all the females used to come my way and rush me like I was elvis or something. I got in a a few fights too with some punk cholos. I used some Tae Kwon Ko on some fools. Yeah I was like a king back in them days. Later on I took over DB Coopers and ran things there. I miss those days.

Eddie |

Another cool part of Studio 47 is that everyone would meet there after the club closed at 1:30p. If people were cruising, or at a houseparty or where ever they were at they would end up meeting up at Studio afterwards. In front of Studio 47 was a empty lot where everyone parked. I remember standing outside looking at all the different people- Mod,Hair bears, coolcats and the regular joes.

David |

Here's a little bit about the history of Studio 47. This is taken from a San Jose Mercury News article, date August 20, 2003.

It all began here. On July 7, 1956, the
first rock n roll riot in America
happened here at the Palomar Ballroom. (47 Notre Dame Ave)
The facts were later documented in a
treatise by San Jose State history Prof.
Larry Engelmann. Fats Domino and his
band showed up two hours late for a
show, and a tanked-up crowd of 3,500
began throwing beer bottles. Fights
broke out. Firecrackers were set off.
Chaos reigned. Eleven were arrested.
Hundreds of other brawlers fled when
police reinforcements arrived. The next
day, accounts of the riot appeared
from coast to coast, sparking a debate
on whether rock music was evil and
provoked violence. In many respects,
that argument continues today. The
ballroom, which hosted many other
1950s shows with rocks pioneers, still
stands and is now the Tropicana
Nightclub.

Here is a small excerpt of an autobiography I'm working on. It relates to my times at Studio 47:

Studio 47 was where I was really able to shine early on. In those days, it was the one place where I felt complete and at home. I was somebody there, not just a number, not just a face in the crowed. I was the crowd.

I first went to Studio 47 in 1983. I wore a black Le Tigre shirt, light gray Cotler Baggies, and Imperials shoes. The old discothque seemed so big the first time I was there. It seemed like each corner was adorned with a completely different crowd, Macys mods on one side, breakers on the other, etc. Even though I didnt know how to dance, I knew that this was the place to meet quality women which for us meant girls who were one step up from being a downtown runaway. I think there was a $5 cover in those days. It must have been an 18 and over club, but in actuality the age range there was anywhere from about 14 to 21.

There seemed to be a social hierarchy at Studio as Im sure there is in any social setting. At the bottom rung of this social ladder were those who only frequented 47 only occasionally. These were the nerds, the hardcore cholos, and Blacks. They would pop in from time to time but not really enjoy themselves because it wasnt their scene. These were the kind of people who would get dragged in by cousins, girlfriends, classmates, etc. Right above them were the Studio regulars. These kids were literally regular in every sense of the word. They were not mod, mostly hair bears and dressed up jocks or disguised cholos. We called them stock as in a stock car one thats not customized. However, they enjoyed themselves, mainly because Studio was the in place to be on Saturday nights. And they were able to surround themselves with the beautiful people who were one rung above them. We were those beautiful people. We were at the top the in crowed. We were made up of mods, queers, freaks, whores, and drug addicts all rolled up into one sub culture. The leader of this motley crew was usually some obese f** hag that possessed unbelievable charisma and untapped leadership skills. The queers in the group dressed better than any of us straight guys could even dream of. It still boggles my mind how they were able to put things together for that perfect look. And along with the gays came the f** hags. These little cuties were what the straight guys really wanted to get our hands on. They were the reason why it was so cool to hang out with gays in the first place. Small time drug dealers sometimes crept their way into our group for a temporary stay. They, too, wanted to get a taste of the little girls who frolicked around the gay boys. These ruffians usually had a better chance of getting the girl than we pretty boys did because they had money, drugs, motorcycles, and cars with loud speakers.

You definitely knew you were in when you were privileged enough to be allowed to dance in the big circle. No matter how packed the dance floor was, the elite always formed a big dancing circle, no partners, just one large circle. It was somehow used as a border to keep the little people out. The stocks would look at us with envious eyes as we rudely brushed through them to join the circle of dancing freaks.

These were unique times. A picture was once taken of our whole group in Studio 47s lobby back in 1985. I wonder if that picture still exists today and who might have it or even more probable who might be hiding it.

I experienced more than my share of adventures and misadventures at Studio 47. By the time I stopped going, sometime around 1987, I had already realized that nightlife would become my most enjoyable pastime.

Eddie Orozco |

I started going to Studio 47 From 1983-1989.I was in Junior High. They used to have The Black light on Fridays when they played all modern rock. I remember the B52's.Depeche mode, neworder and more. But the most I remember is Radical Rich and his mixes from Prince to Boogie city. I have a record that he put out in 1985 of one of his favorite mixes. When I listen to the mix- it takes me back to 1985. I remember people started referring to Studio 47 as the snake pit. But then you would see those same people there the next weekend.Hair bears, mod people and regular jocks would be there. They Had A photographer there that would take peoples pictures and you would see the girls going back and forth from the dance floor to the bathroom. There has not been another club like it in San Jose since. I know because I have been Djing clubs and house parties in San Jose since 1987.

Javier Perez |

I remember me and joey drinking beer by the big tree in the sudio parking lot, before getting into the disco. We were the coolest in the young side always trying to sneak into the older side side. By the time I became 21 the studio scene died down we were then probably partying at OASIS or DB Coopers. But I do remember all the good music that you hardly hear these days.

David |

I, too, have fond memories of Studio 47. I went from about 1983 to 1987 regularly. I don't think young people of today had the fun that we had back in those days...

DJSCORPION |

Do I remember Studio 47?--My wildest nights were there... I used to go there all the time, it was like heaven when it came to music, best mixes and the hair bear honies... I was a pimp back in the day baby... I used to love it going there... too bad things changed and the club scene kind of died out in San Jose... man do I have memories of that place?... I felt like Santa Clause there... hoe hoe here and hoe hoe there... We used to call it the Snake Pitt... if anybody wants to email me, my email is diz_dj@yahoo.com.. by the way I became one of the best DJ's in San Jose thankx to the Studio 47 experience.
