Description: So here's an update to my life since My Uncle's Disco. Even though we parted in the eighties we never really fell out of love. I met her at My Uncles and we first danced together there. After Homecommings and Proms for many years we parted in 81 only to find ourselves back together in 2009 via Classmates.com and daily emails...Well here we are 5 years later, and now married. We have many fond memories from our disco days and many of the people who were there then are still here today. What a wonderful life we lead in the 70's and early eighties, and here we are today living a great life as husband and wife. And so now I proudly present to you my loving family.
Please note that in the interest of fairness, the names of DJs and staff are listed in alphabetical order.

I will never forget My Uncles!!! That was my place...the place I looked forward to going every Friday and Saturday .. The place that gave me the best of memories!! I used to sneak out through my bedroom window each weekend to make it to the disco! I wish times were like this nowadays and can truly say that the Late 70s was the best years if my life!
I have the fondest memories of this place that I can write a book. I worked behind the bar serving drinks and met my husband and father of my children " Tury" the best disco dancer around! I'm sure many of you remember him lol... He was always in competition with koloni and tutukoni, whirling the ladies in and out of the dance floor and had a line of ladies waiting to dance with him. I remember Papi and beautiful Lonnie. Thank you so much papi and Lonnie for the wonderful everlasting memories !!!
I was 16 years old when I first went to My Uncles. I knew Pappy and Landy. They were so nice to me. Pappy even offered me a job there as cashier, but my parents were against that. I met my first love there. He was my everything. My love of my life was stabbed and killed because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. They never caught the killers. My Uncles will always be that special place where my true love and I made special memories. Thank you Pappy and Landy for giving me such special memories. I wish My Uncles still existed.
David! Omg I would love to catch up over the years I am been in contact with Tim Pappy and Landi (they have twin boys and are Still together) let's catch up. Carabelle@ outlook.com
This is just incredible.....I can't believe all the people talking about My Uncles. I worked there as a bouncer/door person for Pappy around 1977-1978. I hung around a girl named Cara Lehman and Michelle Jacquin. I wanted to say hello to Pappy....I can't remember the guy with the bald head??? Anyway, hello guys.....the best days of our lives.
Papy and Landi, people don't know How great Hot Traxx was, I had a group of friends we would always go there. It was the best club ever, pool tables table soccer games, dancing and lot's and lot's of fun. Papi you can email or call me anytime. I amd not sure if your in contact with anyone who went to Hot Traxx, but am searching for some old friends like a great dancer nick named Gadgett, Kevin Bird a security Guard. Just to name a few. K.I.T.
Hi, I used to go to "Shot of Gold" in the early 80s with my friend Cindy. We loved that place, we had so much fun and danced the whole time, good drinks and after it closed for the night we would all go and party at Tony and Steves house. Does anyone remember me or Tony and Steve, they are brothers, good looking. It was a blast.

Please pull the Picture of me and the Blonde Girl from this post. I sent the wrong pick. Leave the prom picture and I will send a picture of me and the right girl.
My uncle Francisco used to frequent "My Uncles" back in the 70's and early 80's I was about 7 years old. I was fascinated by all the stories he would tell about that place, how he would pick up girls and dance all night. My uncle introduced me to all this disco and freestyle music which I would then share with my friends at my elemenatary school who thought I was cool because of it. I grew up listening to that stuff and still love it.
Just an FYI.
I completely forgot to post on here, however there is a My Uncle's reunion happening tomorrow.
A few DJs will be spinning songs that were popular at My Uncles, Hot Traxx & Illusions.

I fell in love with a Gal one night at My Uncles. It was our first date. I will always cherrish the memories of that place. She was the Love of my life...Still is. We were together through High School. Life eventually sent us our seperate ways. Today we have found each other again. I never let go of my love for, and I feel it with every phone call we share. So you see Disco had it's place in life for me. It set the perfect environment for love. When I dance today, I always think back to dancing with her and how special it felt to hold her in a slow dance. So all the lights and music asside, like the song says---"Love is in the air"
i was the coat check girl at my uncles!! the first time i went there was because i danced on bandstand in the 70s and mitch was the dj. that was the first time i actually heard mixed records and watched these guys new york joe ( who i still actually see around!!) and his cousins marc & mallach new york hustling with this chick passing her around all over the place. i remember blue eyes billy, used to like dancing with him, kalani & tutukani who thought none of us girls could dance lol! liked that little club, was close to home, had pool tables, great music. anyone that used to go there, or gino's, or circus...please look up backtodisco.com on face book, or backtoginos...they have great parties with great music & still play vinyl! doitdoitdoit!!
I remember the shot of gold......Randy Pascale was the owner. I use to hang out at the Irish Castle. I opened the Silver Fox in 1976 with Bobby Rocca, Mickey and Jerry from the Castle. Enjoyed the whiskey creek with Jon Jon too. Those were the days...... sure do miss them.
Wow! I remember all these Valley Clubs! My girls and I used to know which nights were "Ladies Night" and would make the rounds!
A lot of fond and not so fond memories at:
*Shot of Gold (roscoe & balboa)
*Lannis Inn (corbin & vanowen)
*Tennessee Gin & Cotton (corbin & ventura)
*Marquee (roscoe & desoto)
*Goose Creek (parthenia e of reseda)

.*-.* MY UNCLE *.-*. THE BEST DISCOTEQUE IN THE SAN FERNANDO VALLEY BACK IN THE 70'S
I remember going every friday and saturdays getting all dressed up just to go dancing, Pappy will be waiting at the front door and a beautiful girl on the casher, The sound was incredible, ( Cervin Vega everywhere ) and the lights, Wow...The best lights with the music playing will make the dance floor unforgettable. The music was the best..The DJ will put the cover of the album on display..Like Lipps inc, Susy Lane, Mestizo, Foxy, Etc..... I remember going to melrose to buy the 45 Lp's the next morning...Then like on the 90's I went to Pappy's Night Club in Glendale Ca. I heard the same sound system and I looked at the wall and saw some of the same lighting system from My Uncles.. And later that night Pappy showed up....I told my wife, thats the guy from My Uncles... Best Days Of My Life!!!!
I don't know if anyone remembers me, my Gal was Jeannie.....
My uncles was the the best place to be on the weekends back in my teens .. anybody remember the Insignares sisters & Marcello & Miquel??? Estrella Gonzales???
Then when I was grown I became a regular at the Marquee at DeSoto & Roscoe where I partied with the best of the Hells Angels & Crucifiers. My brother in law was a bouncer there & I was only nineteen at the time. Charlie owned the place & Matt was the bartender there. I loved dancing at the Marquee & I loved dancing for the DJ who always put his fidora on top of my head like queen of the dance floor. I miss those days so much! Time passes far too quickly! Salute! -Cella

WOW reading all these posts really makes me miss those days. I started going to hot trax around 1981, 1982. I remember Pappy everytime you go there you always felt so welcome. Shook his hand everytime to welcome you back. Girls, dancing, pool tables, going to the back outside after dancing non-stop , smoking clove cigarettes(i know they are bad)but it was all part of that scene. Hot trax was the first dance club I ever went to and will always be the best. I think an 70's 80's reunion would be fantastic. I will be there.
I don't remember the exact address but I think it was 6515 Van Nuys Blvd between Haynes & Hamlin just north of Victory. The building was on the west side of the street, which is now an indoor swap meet. It's very difficult to remember then vs now because the front looks very different now.
Hope this helps
DJ Fernando "Unique"

I used to work at Lannis back in the 70's, and I still keep in touch with Robert Kelly. He and my brother Ron also had a resturant on Reseda Blvd called the Pepper Tree. Lannis was a very loving family operated buisness, I just loved working there, It was a very busy resturant, opened for lunch 11-2 t hen closed till dinner which was 4-10 at dinner they had dress codes. the bar was opened all day. There speciality for lunch was a lovley buffet and for dinner was Mr Kelly's famous prime rib. It was a very well known place back then. The bands where always up to date with the times Robert Kelly did a great job at being the owner.

We used to go to Gino's after the club clused Saturday nights since Ginos Opened til 4:00 AM. DJ Unique played some AWESOME jams he brought from the LA DISCO Scene!! Im now in my forties and promote Disco Parties as a Hobby!! But then I moved on to Ginos,Circus in hollywood and now its flashback and salsa dancing , is my disease. Thank god 4 My Uncles nites. To see what i look like now go to my space email@example.com
A friend sent me this link for "My Uncles". Good to know people still remember this great club. I used to DJ there on Saturday nights in '84 when it was already called Hot Traxx. I started DJing there again '85 until it closed in '87. In '86 Pappy sold the Hot Traxx to Xenon West (Ventura) and the club was remodeled and renamed Illusions. The city of Van Nuys finally closed Illusions in '87. The club was briefly reopened immediately as Moogs but was again closed, this time forever. I started working for Pappy again in 1990 in Pappy's new club in Glendale, which was actually named Pappy's. Pappy's in Glendale was an extremely successful Salsa club that lasted well into the 90's. I stopped working there in '94. I briefly worked for Pappy again in Pappaz in Hollywood later in the 90's though I don't remember the exact year. I never really stopped DJing in clubs intil September of 2008. Currently I'm doing guest spots but still doing mobile DJ work such as weddings and stuff.
If you guys need to contact me you can do so at:
DJ Fernando "UNIQUE"
Was trying to track down Papy as I lost touch with him over the years. I grew up around Pappy worked for him for years at My Uncles and Hot Trax. Had so many great times and years there. Pappy thought me a lot and I still use the knowledge I gained from him to this day. Lost contact with my good friend Mike that used to work the door there with me but still in touch with Bob Pendergrass who was one of the DJ's over the years. Thanks Pappy
My Uncles (aka Hot Traxx, aka Illusions) brings back great memories for me. What a great place to dance and kick it with friends. Everyone used to show their moves while facing forward to watch themselves in the mirror.
I remember my Uncles then Hot Traxx, that was the spot for all of the Rockabillies. (early 80's) I lost contact with a friend named Joe Villareal. If anyonw knows his where abouts please advise.
Love the Spot.
After this placed closed we turned to Mi Casa In L.A
I remember My Uncles. Guys in my "Elementary" were talking about it and I probably didnt make it there until I was 17.
Is the Frank youre talking about one that went to Marshall HS? What about these two girls from Oxnard , Donna and Lupe?
Anyways, for good memories visit the Backtodisco.com classic pictures.
ok Landi and Pappy. We need to have a My Uncles reunion. I would sooooooooooo fly in for that. I no I told you many times Pappy we needed to do this when you came in to see Dr. Simon. If there is a way (radio stations, newspapers, this site) to gather as many people as possible would be AWESOME. Lets do it before we are all too old to dance anymore!!
I spoke to Rey today and he asked me to send him this website. He definitely remembered you.
I am sure that he will look here and I think he knows Raisa's address and phone number.
I will also try to get you Frank and Estella's E mail address.
Mine is Rafael.firstname.lastname@example.org That is my company that I own with a friend of mine.
www.mamwealth.com is the website.
As for Vicki if you get in touch with her please say hello for me. I remember her fondly and have great memories of My uncles and the Tiki's with her.
I don't have Rey's e mail address but I will get it to you tomorrow.
So good to hear from one of the old My uncles crowd!!!!
I believe you know who I am. Rey definetly knows me, we do go way way back. Please, if you talk to him tell him Hi for me. Vicki, is also the same person you are talking about and knows me, as per Raisa I know that she lives here in Florida, in Miami. I am trying to see if I could locate her. Definetly good news that Frank and Estella are doing great, they also know me as well. I would love to keep in touch, and be able to know more about you, and how my good friend Rey is been doing.
Keep in touch
I think that I remember you now. I am going to ask Rey next time I speak with him.
Not sure we know each other but we may have hung out together.
My friends called me "Ralph" I still talk to Rey Sanchez although I have not seen anyone else for a while.
Frank and Estella are in Okinawa as Frank is on the Navy.
Raisa is in Miami but I have not seen her for about 10 years now.
is the Vicki that you are talking about Vicki Balcorta? She was my girlfriend for a while.
Good to hear from the " My uncles " crowd.
Rafael " Ralph " Sanchez
I'am so happy that a Friend sent me the link. It is so great to hear about everyone and their memories. I am sorry to her about Mitch (DJ). I still to this day talk about how much fun I had at My Uncles.
I use to hang around with Mercy, Vicki, Perla, Olga, Estella, Raisa, Rey, Frank, Barbara and a host of other Cubans myself. Please, would like to hear from all of you.
I married an Argentinian from My Uncle. I live in Florida now and miss California so much. There's a few from Argentina that are living here in Florida and we talk about those times.
Pappy & Landy:
Congratulations on your new location. I hope it brings many memories for you as My Uncle did for all of us.
hi everyone it landi and pappy. Its nice to see no one forgot the the good old days my uncle disco and hot traxx. After that we went to glendale had a club for 10 years and the went to hollywood for 5 years. We have twin boys that are now 20 years old leave your name and number so we can catch up on the old times.
I used to play the "Jack in the Box" pinball machine, next to the pool tables, all night.
Anyone from Glendale who used to go there in 76'77?
There was a group of us, Perla, Raisa, Rey, Frank, Estella, Barbara and a host of other Cubans who went to Glendale College and LACC and practically lived there.
Also, Vicki, if you read this let me know how you are doing.
By the way, I drove by there the other day and I was really sad to see how rundown it was . I think its a thrift store or something.
No matter though, my memories can't be taken away.
man oh man I remember those days. I practically lived there Thursday Through Sunday with the Cuban crowd.
I loved those days. Met many of my girlfriends there.
Thank you everyone for the great memories. I won $200.00 in a disco dance contest there in 75 or 76. I have some photos of that place. It was a few miles from my home. Ao many fond times there.I turned 48 Dec 28 and feel like im 18-21 reading these posts.
WOW, what memories. Just thinking about it gives me goose bumps. Pappy and Landy are still together and have twin boys (age 20 or so) and beleive it or not, they both have not aged one bit. Pappy is still the guy you saw at the door and Landy is still the same too. I would love to know how everyone from my group of people have been and where they are now. I still have my best friend (Laura) who started us going there. She married her first love who she met at My Uncle's when we were 15. We are now in our 40's but still to this day talk about My Uncle's. Thanks for the memories Pappy. There will never be another like, MY UNCLE's.
I fondly remember My Uncles in Van Nuys. I lived in Granada Hills at the time and went to Kennedy High school. I didn't have a car so I had to beg my older brother to take me there every weekend. It was at My Uncles I met my first girlfriend and love, Donna. I remember leaning up to the speakers in the place because we thought it was cool to feel the vibration throughout our bodies. Now that I am 47, I can't believe I would do something so stupid. It was great place though. I still remember the neon sign outside the club off the boulevard.
Yeah, I remember seeing KC and the Sunshine Band playing there for the 1st time. That's the way I like it, unhug unhug.....
My Uncle's was the best teen club in the valley, I was in high school at the time (Venice High) living on the westside we would make the trip over the hill. I remember the DJ Mitch very well and felt at the time he played the best Disco Music. The westside had a teen disco too known as the Disco Kid, but was no comparison to My Uncles.
My best friend took my to My Uncle's one night in 1976 or 77, against my will. I swore I would never dance in a disco, and I hated dancing because I thought I couldn't do it. He finally pulled me onto the dance floor and I swayed a bit. It didn't take long before I was groovin', and soon became a disco dolly - dancing diva - whatever! Spent every night in the clubs after that! I still dance as often as I can...
Man, I remember that place. It was an "Under 21" disco. I lived only a few miles away, and went to Van Nuys High School nearby.
I would get slicked out in my Angels Flight slacks and vest, silk shirt, and dance my heart out. Man I miss that place.
My Uncles was a nice club on a main drag in the SFV. One of the DJ's there Mitch Schatskey (now deceased) was a wonderful DJ and a good friend.
