It gives me great pleasure to inform you that Michael is alive and well and living in Ft Lauderdale. You can find him on facebook .Michael and I were great friends and stayed at each others houses when we did new york and SF. Michael was the DJ. for the Fire Island Morning Parties Some of the greatest parties in the world. He lived about a block from Henry Winslow. One of the great D.J.s of the time, whom I talked into staying and playing in S.F. on to play at Troc on his way to doing the Sleaze Ball in Sydney. d*** Collier was in the hospital, after trying to open a club in Baltimore,But i Talked him into letting us open Troc.,redo the Sound system, and have a one night sleazer there. and I've Just started. Steven-- Vinny Carleo was brought out from Flamingo to Open Troc
not Dreamland. Remember ,he threw the turntables out of that high booth at Collier. He then didn't play' til Night Flight . And THAT is a whole other Story

I remember Michael Jorba very well. We worked together at Chaps in the mid '80
's he would spin at Chaps until 4 then head down to Moonshadow and play morning music. I loved Michael he was a good person and I miss him. I'm very sorry to say that I heard that he died but i've never been able to confirm that.
I remember when the Metropolis soundtrack came out and he loved it and would mix some of the songs into his program.
And he always played D Train for me when I asked. Wherever you are Michael I hope there's lots of music and a good DJ.

Dreamland was very dreamlike. It was so big and the weird thing was it wasn't really dark or light, just kind of dim. And the music would echo throughout the large hall and high ceilings. You would just wander around, no real focus. Very strange and different place.

I would like to share some memories with you, from overseas, Holland.
It was a real great time then!
I remember (like many people) Sylvester, Paul Parker and miss Jeanie Tracy.
-you all three, só very nice and friendly.
And also The Two Tons Of Fun. And Fun it was!!
They ALL blow of the roof!
For me in that time, it was só impressive!!
I've seen some clubs around the world, but the Dreamland was something special, (with The Saint and The Roxy). They played ALL the music I liked! Many times live! I've even got some old tickets.
Some things will never coming back....
Sitting in the SF Park with Paul Parker and his friend Ken, or shopping with Sylvester in Amsterdam or Paris (Yeh, I'm blond..haha).
    I will never forget!
Now I'm trying to find some pictures (or?) 'from the old days', to keep the memory alive. But they are hard to find.
-if anyone knows something for me, please let me know (thanxx).

Hello -- I think I did this wrong the first time -- just curious to know if promoter Ron Baer was from Illinois? He was a dear friend of mine -- the Ron Baer I knew passed in 1997 -- but I just recently found out -- if anyone out there knows anything please email me at the address above -- We lost track of each other but he holds a special place in my heart -- hope somebody know something! Thank you!

Does anybody know what happened to Michael Jorba? I liked his music, and I moved back to Brazil in 1999 and I am just curious>

    Thanks

I was one of the original staff at Dreamland, from opening night. I started out in the coatcheck, working for Jerry Myers and will never forget the crazy times we had there. Sylvester came in one night with Diana Ross and he was wearing a black motorcycle jacket with a white fur collar, while La Ross was wearing a full length white fur. Well, of course, we all had to try it on in the coatcheck. What memories ! Unlike some other people, I loved the white room, and remember that on any given night, without announcement, the music would cue up and someone fabulous would appear on the stage.....I remember Sylvester, Two Tons o' Fun, Pamala Stanley to name a few. Would love to hear from anyone who remembers those days. It would brighten up the life of this ex-disco crazy, now high school teacher.

I went to Dreamland a few times , but in all honesty it wasn't a comfortable club to me . The above photo brings it back ... a big bright open space with nowhere to roam. You entered and you were there ... a big area to stand around in... then a big area to dance.

My one big memory there ... being kissed by Sylvester . Where?
....in the men's room of course ...

1978 or 1978 Disco's and clubs were my life. I remember going there with a few the first time with my friend claire at the time and another of her friends that lived not too far. I would go to San Francisco one a month from L.A. to hit all the Discos back then, ended up dancing on a table at times. Dreamland has one of the largest spaces I have been in, I have an Invite forone of the parties and napkins with the two cherubs or angels printed ( the logo). Those were the days.
One word describes Dreamland in the 70's DECADENT
Summers I would Go to the Miami Beach, North Miami Beach & FT. Lauderdale clubs.the age at the time was 18 in Florida.

Steve Fabus and Michael Jorba played some great parties at Dreamland in 89.

  • Steve Fabus

The original Dreamland of the disco glory days was opened by Michael Meyer and associates with Rod Roderick. It was a cavernous 'pretty' club with an all-white interior with elegant arches and columns set around its dancefloor. It was designed to appeal to a New York-centric crowd, habitues of Fire Island and the bi-coastal gay circuit. It had the biggest dancefloor in San Francisco.

DJ's Howard Merritt and Vincent Carleo from the Flamingo in NYC were brought in to open the club. Howard was the Dreamland resident until Bobby Viteritti took over a couple years later.

Dreamland had a few good years before Bobby left and the crowd dissipated. Dreamland closed and people gravitated back to the Trocadero. Eventually the tragic impact of the AIDS epidemic stopped the music at the Trocadero in the mid-eighties.

In 1988, promoter Ron Baer wanting to resurrect nightlife reopens Dreamland. Steve Fabus was brought back from New York to play at Dreamland's reopening party called "Reclamation." The party was a jam-packed success and was an affirmation that a community in the epidemic's darkness wanted and needed its temples for dancing more than ever.

Steve Fabus became the resident DJ at Dreamland. Robbie Leslie and Michael Jorba were frequent guests.

The 'new' Dreamland established a strong T-Dance every Sunday night in San Francisco in 88,89. It was a precursor to Pleasuredome, a club that opened a few blocks away on Townsend Street.

The Dreamland space at Third and Harrison is now a club called City Nights owned by Brit Hahn.

Dreamland was only a few blocks from Trocadero Transfer. It is the club that Bobby Viteritti went to after he left Trocadero. I remember it being this huge space with exposed beams. The only drawback, in my opinion, was that it was painted white on the inside. It is my understanding that Bobby offered to paint it black but they refused. Various dj's ended up at Troc, Trip Ringwald being one of those. My thoughts at the time was that Troc would not survive Bobby's demise, but people ended up supporting both venues so it all worked out in the end.
