115 South 4th Street, Minneapolis, Minnesota

Schiek's was opened by Scott Smith who owned "Scotties" or "Scotties on 7th" as it was known. Do not confuse Schiek's with its later reincarnation as a "strip" club, it was and is a travesty they used the same name.

The building was built at the turn of the 20th century as the "Farmers and Mechanics" Bank. It was romanesque in style with a huge dome in the middle of the building that was originally a skylight. If Minneapolis had a "Studio 54" this would be it, the crowds were glamorous and well dressed (strict dress code).

Schiek's opened in 1979 and closed approximately 1988. The grand opening included an appearence by "Bob Mcgilpin." Although Prince was associated with "First Avenue" he was a regular here and usually showed up on Saturday nights.

The DJs were: David Pinska, Grace Lorenzi, Ron Ramsdell, Kevin O'Neill and Gary Lodge.

Please note that in the interest of fairness, the names of DJs and staff are listed in alphabetical order.

Steve Lerach was the executive chef at Scheiks and cranked out some awesome food. Steve passed last week due to complications from cancer. He was not only an excellent chef but went on to become a well loved instructor in the culinary arts. He is greatly missed

It is with great sadness to report the passing of Grace Lorenzi on September 16th.

Grace was a class act and much loved. She gave me my start in djing when no one else would and that resulted in a decade of very fond memories. Grace opened and worked at some the hottest clubs in Minneapolis, Schieks, Graffittis, Marsh's. She was also the on air personality at the only disco station to ever hit the airwaves in the TwinCities KFMX 104. She went on to other radio stations most notably KS95. Grace will be missed by all that knew her.

Yes, I was one of the djs at Summerfields as well, along with Evan Landes whose main gig was Maxamillians on the strip.

Great pix! I wish I had taken some at the discos
I went to, including Scheik's, Summerfield's,
Scotties on Seventh and more. I loved those
dance places and the people were awesome.
