Mingles was formally called "The Brothers Three" which was a great club of the early 1970s. Mingles was the best of the central N.J. clubs. George was the director of Garden State Record Pool so the music industry names on the guest list was impressive. Some of the acts that performed at Mingles included Chaka Khan, Lime, J.M. Silk, Alisha, Newcleus, Bonnie Pointer, Phylis Nelson, Lisa Lisa, Rock "Master" Scott, and many more. The Sunday "teen" night was legendary, with many of these acts also performing.

Hey Mike! Chaka was/is so shy, that she had to get toasted to perform... She always performed that way...

Sorry Donna, but you just missed the most recent Mingles reunion.
It was held at Centro (Mingles location) on March 19.
To find out about future events join "I used to hang at Mingles" on facebook.

I would like to know if there is going to be a Mingles Reunion any time soon? Because that would be so great to see everyone. There is no place for people at my age to go to dance. And to hear the music of the 80's.

I didnt' know if anybody noticed Chakas condition that night. I was djing that night. The bouncers called us downstairs to help get her up to the stage. She was nearly unconsious. I was afraid there was going to be a riot due to the size of the crowd. We had 1500 people with another 1000 outside. But when she got to the stage she came to & put on a great show. (my opinion) I was amazed.

Thanks Mike, I was just reading your email to my husband (whom I met at Mingles) and he reminded me that we saw Chaka Cahn at Mingles.....it's funny because although it was a good show, we were up front and were really able to see her face and she looked like she was seriously "on something"! Her eyes were halfway shut and she was sweating profusely!

We used to go on Wednesdays (for ladies night quarter drinks) and Fri. and Saturday....(we basically lived there LOL)...alot of fun and will remember Mingles forever!!!

In answer to your question, no Abyss is a quarter mile south of the Mingles site which is now called Centro. You might be interested to know that last month in Feb. Centro hosted the 1st in a series of Mingles reunion partys with Mike McKnight djing. There were over 300 tickets sold but there was a huge snowstorm the day before, so only about 200 made it. The music was all 70's & early 80's dance. It was alot of fun. There is another party on April 23rd. You can pay at the door or go to facebook site "we (or I) used to hang at Mingles" and get more info

Can you tell me if the current Club Abyss on Route 35 in Sayreville is the old Mingles? I used to go to Mingles in the 1980's and it was GREAT! I miss those days soo much. I moved out of state in the early 1990's so I don't know what happened to it....by the way, I married my husband whom I met in Mingles in 1983! So, Mingles is special to both of us! If you can get me that information my husband and I would be grateful. Thank you...
