DiscoMusic.com member and former Disco DJ Jay Negron had this to say about The Forbidden Fruit:

The first time I went to a club, I was 16 yrs old, snuck in with a fake ID. (and I had these long sideburns)
It was called "The Forbidden Fruit" and it was on 81st & Central Pk. West in NYC.

The DJ was playing with 2 turntables--no mixer--just a toggle switch where he would go from one table to the next.

The hot songs (audience response) were:
"Get On The Good Foot" - James Brown
"Think" - Lyn Collins
"Soul Makossa" - Manu Dibango
"Right Place Wrong Time" - Dr.John
"Life & Death in G&A" - Abaco Dream
"It's Just Begun" - Jimmy Castor Bunch
"Don't Bring Back Memories" - Four Tops
"I Can Understand It" - New Birth
"K Jee" - Niteliters
"Jingo" - Santana
"Woman" - Barabas
"Why Can't We Live Together" - Timmy Thomas
"Thank You" - Sly & The Family Stone
"You're The One" - Little Sister

As you see it was mostly funk & R&B.
The strobe light was flashing, all the multi-colors were on, people were hooping & hollering, (it was a DISCO and that was Disco Music)and all I could do was watch the DJ.
He looked like he was having the best time of everybody!!!

Forbidden Fruit was at 50 West 77th st in the space that is now Scaletta Risorante. Was closed by neighbors who objected to noise and its "scene" in March 1973

Forbidden Fruit was one of the first discos I ever attended. I was 16 years old. Francis was the D.J. and I loved his music. The songs I clearing remember were Think, Get on the Good Foot. I used to love to dance with a guy named Willie. He was a great dancer. My friend went out with his brother Walter. Walter used to shake his shoulders when he danced. He always wore a hat...he was very handsome.
