hey Gene, if you can switch over to direct email, get to me at billswrd@yahoo.com it's easier than trying to remember to check here. I might have some ideas for you...a contact in Lauderdale and a gay history library there.

Bill Kelly was the first real DJ after I left for school.

Bob passed away last April, cancer.
I knew him most of my life.

Daphne is living in Florida. I have left several messages but no return call as of yet.

I am working on a book, the history of the 70s scene in Miami.

    Who are you?

    Gene

Gene...I think I remember you...glad you are still around. Most of the guys didn't survive the 80's as you know. I was 22 then and a regular at W8 thru the 70's, as well as all the other joints from the Gables to the Grove. I can remember tossing out a David and After Dark collection that I wish I'd kept! TJ moved to Ft. Lauderdale I believe and hung out at the Everglades Bar. The last I saw a lot of his photos which might have included you, they were hanging in a now gone gay restaurant in Dania called Jimmy January's. Many of his oil portraits were in Teddy Matchet's collection, the Grove Jeweler. You may know that when Rheims brought in a mob type man called Brewer and Bob Stickney bought into the Warehouse, things really changed. Stickney later bailed and opened the Candelight in the Grove, ran it for several years, then went to Manhattan and opened Styks. much Cocain in the basement!...ah the early 80's..I'd love to know if Michael aka Daphne is around also? Good luck dude!

gmtsf - I might be able to help you out with someone who is trying to sell old issues of David magazines. http://myworld.ebay.com/applecreekfarm57/

Also he mentioned that Tee Jay Johnston passed away some years ago.

Does anyone know of where I can get old David Magazines from the late 60s early 70s?
Looking for any and all memorabilia about the Warehouse VII, Torchy Lane, Tiffany Jones, Daphne Delight, Scagnolia The Great, Tracy Lee. Other publications, Flyers, Videos, etc. Thanks

Rheims Mainer was the owner and at one time my lover. I met him at 16 and he was 36.
I remember fondly Torchy Lane and her Sawdust Review. Tiffany Jones, the Texas Tornado, Daphne Delight and Scagnolia the Great. Charles Pierce swinging out over the 'show room'. Does anyone have pictures or video? I understand that artist Tee Jay Johnston (who did a portrait of me) used to video some events? Anyone know his wherabouts? I know that Torchy and Tiffany have long since passed. Looking for Daphne. Please contact me with any memorabilia and memories.
    It was a great era!

    Thanks

I was 14 and I came out of the closet at this club. It may have been my youth, but to me Wareshouse was magical. I remember Lola Lush holding court. I remember people going crazy to Native New Yorker. I remember the Anita Bryant think, and homophobes driving by Warehouse throwing eggs and rocks the any gay person stepping out of the club and on to 8th street. The friend that I came out with, my dearest friend has passed as have so many others from that majical time. Ahhh, to relive that time again.
