Never cared much for The 1270, because it came across as too segregated. The blacks on one side and the whites the other. But that's expected of Boston at the time. The roof deck was a cool place to retreat to though.
Darts, Chaps and the original Buddies on Boylston St. were the best dance clubs in Boston. Too bad they are all history now.

The guy that produced the first Grace Jones album worked here. He died in the Everhard Baths fire.

Interesting - I knew the address sounded familiar.

The 1270 lived on as one of the best clubs in Boston well into the late 1990's.

Mid-90's it was called QUEST - phenomenal black box dance floor, amazing roof deck (with a huge "David"), first floor club room with drag show space in the back and go-go boys on glass pedestals at either end of the bar.

Now it is as straight and boring as can be - "The Baseball Tavern".
I went in there once and sat in the second floor former home to the black box --- and told the waitress what used to be there.

She squirmed - not a very cool place at all anymore.
But the roof deck is still open.

I left Boston during the 1270 days, and didn't come back at all for a few years. When I did and caught up with my friends they informed me Buddies was the place to go now. What a GREAT bar. I had so much fun. I looked forward to my more recent trips to Boston.

Does anyone remember the Rainbow Room at 15 Landsdown St.? It had a room that served omelets to the right when you walked in and had fake birds chirping every where and the room was blue. It was a great bar. I still have my T-shirt from the Grand Opening.......I only wish it still fit.

Tom Burns (architect) if you are out there I have been searching for you for years.......Michael from Beacon Hill.

Boston once had plenty of thrilling and exciting night clubs and "the 12" was right up there at the top along with so many of them. Let's face it, it was a great time to be young and if you were lucky enough to be swimming in the gene pool at the time, you'd have to admit that many Boston night clubs were much wilder than you ever could have imagined before you ever first stepped in. With both disco and punk mixed, it was our generations own version of the roaring 1920's and although many of you might not yet have been there, you're just going to have to take our word for it. Afterall, doesn't the music of that era in some way now suggest to you that you might have just missed quite a little party?
So now besides, "the 12" with it's with it's casual red brick basement, dim lighting and occasional appearance from Melissa Etheridge, the 1270 boasted two other very busy dance floors above as well. Not to mention the awesome rooftop view of your favorite city from the Back Bay. Now can anyone tell me is there anyone still out there who remembers just how hot Buddies could be? Or am I the only one? And that's pretty doubtful. So please tell us whatever you can remember. You can be sure there are others who would love to hear it too. One day it will make an interesting page in history you know.
So if you happened to frequent any of the many Boston hot spots from about the mid 1970's thru most of the 80's you'd probably have to admit that in retrospect, much of what you witnessed then was more like a fantastic and unbelievable dream that in some way a small part of you still wishes to this day that the world never had enough sense to ever wake up from. So tell us your story...

1270........I all but lived there. The best club in Boston for years. It had 3 floors and weekends were so much fun. Those were the good old days and the music was far better than this techno stuff of today.
