Pizazz

Pizazz had an excellent fog and light set-upj and had many DJs. I remember GORDON CHIN, a half Black/Asian kid who went on to be a producer of what would come to be known as the "MIAMI BASS BOOTY SOUND" - FEEL THE BASS - featuring MC KID MONEY was his big hit. He also ran (runs?) Uncle Sams music on South Beach. His mix was hi-nrg/euro-disco.(FUN FUN...EXPOSE...FANCY) Occasionally they would throw a old-school disco guy in the booth.
Spacious dance floor with elevated cubes for the exhibitionists. Had a coupla' three stage-like elevations that were railed off and doubled as performance spaces for groups like SEQUAL...STEVIE B...LIME...FRANCE JOLI. At least three times a night-Gordon could be counted on to turn up the fog machine, fire the searchlights through it, and crank UPTOWN: I KNOW I'M LOSING YOU. Just sampling the air-raid siren at the start of that song drove dancers wild
The place was larger than BACKSTREET, but smaller than 1235 and always packed. The city of Oakland Park got annoyed with the place and tried to zone it out... re-opened as HEAVEN (?not sure?) a year later.

Aug 02, 2011 | 10:40 amTarget is currently in place where Pizazz was. It was not a Target anchored mall when Pizazz was there. I remember it reopened as Club Heat (didn't last long) after Pizazz closed. I don't remember it being called Heaven, but I remember Heaven was across the street where Nepenthe was (before it was Nepenthe)

Aug 01, 2011 | 11:26 pmI was actually the original Head DJ at Pizazz and I was the one playing Uptown's I know I'm losing you while Gordon and Phil were my light guys putting on amazing light shows to what I was playing.

Heaven was actually the name of the champagne room inside Pizazz. When it became Club Heat, I was brought in as a consultant. After Club Heat, it became I think Mardi Gras or something like that for awhile before it was torn down.
