CLUB DETAILS, MEMORIES, YEARS IN OPERATION & TECHNICAL DETAILS
Atlanta is one of the few places in America where a visible and affluent Black culture grew out of the post civil rights era. Newly minted upper middle class and somewhat wealthy Black folx wanted someplace to go party. CAMPBELLTON ROAD on the southwest side of ATL was that place. There were four or five clubs on this strip near the Greenbriar Mall.

I remember Cisco's and the flagship club of upscale Black oriented nightlife on the entire planet: MR.V'S FIGURE 8. Ted Turner had just purchased the Braves back in 1976. He bought them to fill air time on what was to become his SUPERSTATION-WTBS... which was the test bed for CNN (1980). Anyway-Ted had a team and a network, but advertisers were few and far between early on. In steps Mr. V with this internationally televised gem of a commercial that ran at deep discount for years:

You should recognize the background music as LOLEATTA HOLLOWAY: HIT & RUN.

I was too young to fall in there legally, but I had a gig at the grocery store in that strip mall and seem to remember some very modest success with my version of "parkin' lot pimpin'". That would be me standin' next to my Volkswagen Bus trynna' hit up on some tipsy older babe stumblin' outta' the club. The owner of the Dairy Queen in the mall was Korean. It was my first exposure to Asians of any kind. If I remember correctly he had some hot daughters my age. Wisely he kept them out back-buried in a textbook. The music pouring outta' that club was classic NY/PHILLY sophistifunk: TEDDY PENDERGRASS and STEPHANIE MILLS: TWO HEARTS; PHYLLIS HYMAN: YOU KNOW HOW TO LOVE ME; PATTI LABELLE: ALRIGHT WITH ME; ASHFORD and SIMPSON: BOURGIE BOURGIE; FUNKADELIC: FLASHLIGHT; TEENA MARIE: I NEED YOUR LOVIN'. Beautiful crowd. Great vibe.

Does anyone remember the name of the club from the 80's on Roswell Road close to Johnny's Hideaway and the Igloo ice skating rink? Big building that stood alone on the right side of the road going towards Buckhead from 285. I'm thinking Sparkles, Spinners, ?????? Friends
    & I trying to remember.

Confetti was the name of the disco, on the property that became Stein Mart.

Do you remember the VIP 2001 Ballroom in Buckhead in the mid-80's? They had Reggie Reg on the "wheels of steel." It was doing a time when you get together and there were no fights or shootings. People just wanted to have fun. I truly miss those days.
