HANDS DOWN, and WITHOUT A DOUBT, Disco Inferno @ The Cameo Theatre on Sunday Nights was, and will always be, the best club on South Beach in the 90's.... Not only did it have the Best DJ, Jack DeMatas, mixing the classic disco, italo, and freestyle music, but also had the BEST turn around and the LARGEST CROWDS practically EVERY SUNDAY NIGHT!!! The Cameo Theatre held well over 4000 people... No other Club in Miami held that many, and No other DJ in the HISTORY of Miami HAD EVER brought in that many people... soo... needless to say... DJ Jack DeMatas knew/knows his mixing and music.....

We need that type of music back.... Bring it back.....

I almost lived there in the mid 80's. Punk/ metal shows, great stuff. Would love to see a old run down picture. Entrance with old billboards, no glass, show flyers stuck one on the other. No windows. And the " green room" love to see any,all thanks, Keith

who promoted disco inferno on sunday nights at the cameo?

  • CLUB RATS - BUKU and ZULU

If I can recall correctly, during the late 80's (summer 1989) I had a business venture with a Power 96 popular DY at the time to promote the Cameo during a series of Wednesday nights. We called the night "The Underground" and it began right after the Cameo new owner's remodeled the old place and began its regular club life.

We had live bands play on the stage and used the second floor for V.I.P.'s from the radio station.

Disco Inferno at the Cameo Rocked! Yes, Liquid was great years later. No comparison, Disco in the 90's with mostly locals. Not like today's Miami Beach. I remember Madonna came in one day, got pushed aside by her body guards. The good old days. Gone forever.

Luc Im not sure I understand you clearly, but the Cameo was not conceived after Liquid closed, the Cameo was up and running a decade before Liquid was even a thought.

Perhaps you mean the NEW Cameo?

Is so then I will have to agree with you.

I was also one of the promoters for Disco Inferno asfter Gary James,Capponi,Delaney and the boys had a falling out with the Cameo's owner,I stayed on for the duration of Sunday nights Disco Inferno, which lasted close to 6 years!

While we're on the Disco Inferno subject, think I'll add a cheap plug if Bernie doesnt mind.

I am hosting a Disco Inferno event this month on Friday April 17th which will benefit Nile Rodgers, " We are family " foundation.

Info can be found on my site at http://www.305Disco.com

CAMEO WAS A RIP OFF CONCEIVED AFTER LIQUID HIT THE SKIDS. NO ONE EVER STAYED MORE THAN 20 MINUTES IT WAS SO TACKY. IN RECENT YEARS A CHICAGO OUTFIT TRIED TO MAKE IT WORK - IT DIDN'T SUCCEED - AND NOW A NEW GROUP HAVE THE LEASE.

CAMEO had some really impressive, and incredibly talented groups and performers go on their stage. I remember L.T.D. with Jeffrey Osborne perform there. A very young, just off the boat SHEENA EASTON made the scene there! Their earliest "Showcase" was in 1976, MONTI ROCK III as DISCO TEX AND THE SEXOLETTES!!

Saw, of all bands, the Sugar Hill Gang there on a "reunion tour" in the spring of 1994.

Their "Disco Inferno" Sunday nights were a staple basically from 1992 until close to the end of the decade I believe.
