SUZANNE was the former General Manager of THE MUTINY and of FACES IN THE GROVE. She married rich, and made her own money as well. With that, she decided that she would open her own Club in Coconut Grove, and help drive a stake through her former employer's hearts.
With an EGO the size of the GROVE itself, she figured that with her connections and popularity in that area of MIAMI, her own place would make her a millionaire several times over. REALITY CHECK!
Suzanne acquired the lower floor of a new condominium across the street from The Mayfair (where FACES was located), and up the street from The MUTINY Hotel. The condo has had various names, but is best remembered as the location for WHAM'S video "Careless Whispers." It was here that she created her personal playground. A glass enclosed Deejay booth that had three Technic 1200 turntables, a BOZAK mixer, three Cerwin Vega 5000 watt amplifiers and over twenty-five BOSE speakers throughout the two-level private club DISCO.
It was solely for the rich, and that was its weakness. As soon as her lease was finished, so was she! Never had enough patrons in it to succeed. Funny thing was that everyone WANTED to go there, but were refused admission.
The Deejay at its opening was Pete Denis, followed by Luis "The Rattlesnake" Martinez, and closed with some guy named EDDIE. Suzanne's in the Grove's music was the latest DISCO and European DISCO. The dance floors filled, but that left no-one drinking! It seems that SUZANNE did not have as many FRIENDS as she thought she had. She refused to allow the "normal" people in, always an "ONLY THE PRETTY PEOPLE" club. Her words! Too bad, the GROVE could have used the shot in the arm, as SOUTH BEACH started developing, and soon dominated the Club scene. VERY, VERY EXCLUSIVE CLUB! It SHOULD have been more. SNOB!

Dec 14, 2011 | 9:33 amThe fact is I know and worked for Suzanne, she was the G.M. at the Mutiny who hired me for the Upper Deck Manager position, and no she was never the manager at Faces in the Grove, but she did run Suzanne's in the Grove a totally different club. If people are trying to share information, they should make sure it is accurate. Paul R.

Apr 05, 2011 | 1:54 pmThe one thing she did in that club I will always remember, was the brass name plates she would slide into each table to make it exclusive to the guests coming in. It was all flash in those days, and although true, Suzanne had a snobby style and she wasn't admired by many women, the men loved her....at least the ones I saw roaming around the clubs. I designed Cat's nightclub when Suzanne was the front woman for Monty and Steve. She knew every man by name and when they were treated well, they came back and spent money. Whatever you say about her, don't forget she paid her dues with the projects that failed, but she was one of the few who knew how to pull in her audience and make them come back for more. Name me one woman who can hold that accomplishment to her standing, in that era, in that city, so completely set apart from anything happening elsewhere....come on, I dare you:)

She Refused to Hire me originally but Tami and Lori Chadroff got me in.
This place was hot

The White cards were for sell and the Black Cards were for the Elite.
Ray Corona Pulled a gun on me one night after he Snorted a half a llbs in the restroom and came out with it all over his face.
Suzanne was the best with me and she knew how to make ppl spend money in her club
Regines opened in the grand bay and became the next thing is what killed the club
It was owned by the Doctor who owned a lot of the grove land
Russel Herne Was the manager after the first few months - brought in from Jennifers on the Bay
Mike the Bartender - Tami Poindexter and of course Annette Paola
We poured Pateger Wine and of course was the Largest Liqour account in the State ( $ Dollar ) because of all the Dom perignon and Pierre Joet
We closed at 5 am and Rick James partied
Miami Sound System ( Machine ) Played New years - the year of Bad Boys
This Club rocked

Jun 15, 2010 | 11:10 pmShe absolutely was the GM at The Mutiny. She worked there in 1974/75 as the Daytime Club Manager, and returned in 1981 as the GM. I worked as the Club Manager at night from 1974 to Jan 1983. I had the displeasure of working with her twice. Once with her and once for her. She didn't last long as GM, but no one did. She also ran Faces for a short while.

Jun 15, 2010 | 12:17 pmPS, she was NOT the GM at the Mutiny or Faces....

Jun 15, 2010 | 12:16 pmSuzanne was a drama drunk queen, she treated people like dirt. She was extremely jealous of all the female staff and was always having a fight with someone. In 1992 when Hurricane Andrew hit, she closed, she also didnt pay anyone their credit cards tips or salary from the week before. She was used to stealing from everyone....an amature, that she was, she could never open a club, she had no skills what so ever...she rode on everyone skirt tales.....

Mar 31, 2010 | 7:18 pmMy tile company and I worked with the designer and made the ceramic tiles with the Suzzannes logo. The first batch came in wrong and we needed to remake them. They were in the bathrooms. remember?
I had a lot of fun at that club.

Feb 17, 2010 | 9:22 amWow! I didn't realize she was screening her members. Many who were members there had also been members of the Mutiny. I gues I was one of the lucky few. I had membership there and remember she would send a card for a complimentary split of champage for your birthday. I went there that nite and invited up my limo driver who got a little drunk and side swiped his limo on one of the concrete pillars exiting the underground parking lot. He had such a good time that nite that he didn't charge me for the limo.

Jan 09, 2010 | 6:38 pmSuzanne didn't have any money ~ she had backers. And she was a witch to work for, but a beginner compared to Burton Goldberg. The difference was that Burton knew what he was doing.

Dec 16, 2009 | 12:36 pmI worked at Suzannes until it closed in 1992 - made a lot of money but she was a witch to work for -

Jul 15, 2009 | 9:09 amAnother club we did the sound for. I had EAW cut the bass cabinet we used at Backstreets in half...making the BH440...and this was installed into a concrete cavity under the DJbooth. the rest of the system was Meyer UPA's

I enjoyed working for Suzanne myself in Atlanta. Would love to know where she is or get in touch with her. If anyone has her contact info please email me.
thanks!
