Club Nu
245 22nd St., Miami Beach, Florida
Club Nu was an awesome looking place. It would change themes about every three months. It was a high class hangout. The DJ booth was huge but the resident DJ's sucked. I can't remember any one of them. A very elegant club and unique layout.

Club Nu was a waste of space. Too big for its own good. HOT 105 deejay Phillipe Jones was the first deejay at this club, but a quick turnover assured CLUB NU of never having a loyal following. It was a bright shinning star that burned itself out very quickly. I was never impressed by the glitz and glamor of it. The music was terrible, and the dwindling crowds are a testament to that fact. On my scale from 1-10, CLUB NU gets a mediocre 5.
I forgot to mention the owners:
Richard Fendelman and John Turchin
this club went thru a few name changes as well (???) anyone remember?
As I recall, this place was almost always packed when it was "around"
On the beach, nothing compared to Club Z/1235 on Washington ave..
(too bad digital cameras weren't around back then ;-)
You are correct my friend, nothing could compare to Club Z/1235. To this day, that fact remains. CLUB NU has gone through as number of name changes. I stopped counting years ago!
vyniljunkie, do you know or remember of a DJ named Albert? (I forget his last name...) He might still be spinning, but he was working for the US Postal Service when I last saw him a few years ago..I've known him since the late 70's..
CONYO... I knew a few Albert's that were deejays. When I handed out the records at Bo Crane's record pool I had the privilege of meeting most South Florida Disco Era deejays. But I can't help you, unless you could tell me WHERE he was a deejay at? That would help a lot!
LOL... ACERE! just found out how to use the conyo with the (tilde) ..but u r right.. small world, but not info huh?
OK. Mainly, he was a house party, wedding, etc. DJ...BUT, I have also seen him DJ at 1235, GAMBITS, Stefano's (key Biscayne) just to name a few.. as a temp. DJ perhaps... Always Tanned, and working out with weights kinda dude..
I "could" call my friend Luis Mendoza to find out, HE (luis) worked at MJS back then distributing LP's to record stores and DJ's through S. Fla. (don't remember exact name, but it WAS part of Specs Music?? mjS...)
Well, there was Albert Acosta who spun as a back-up deejay at many clubs, and was an active mobile deejay. Then an Albert who was really tall, with tinted blond highlights, who made a couple of appearances at various clubs around town, but I don't think that guy ever spun at 1235. I am sure there were other ALBERTS, but without further info, I'm not much help. Sorry.
