Owners: ? Can't remember.Resident DJ: DJ Ray Juanes
G-Wizz was a two story night club with dance floor on the first and a VIP section on the second. Great house Band and even better DJ Ray Juanes.
Open till 5:00AM the club would be packed on Friday's and Saturday's. The place was full of awesome looking "Americanitas"!
The club was run to the ground by a new manager Frank Walsh (I think that was his name) when he fired the resident DJ Ray Juanes because he didn't fall under his new music programming plan. Soon after, the place was dead (after all Frank ran Club 1235 into the ground prior to G-Whiz, why change). Shortly thereafter, it was turned into a karaoke bar and soon bit the dust.
The Club played all kinds of music while DJ Ray Juanes was there. Dance Rock, freestyle, dance, and even classic Disco all in the same night. Anywhere between midnight and 1:00AM the only slow song of the night would be played. It was a great time while it lasted.

Oct 03, 2011 | 10:12 pmI use to work in the place as an ID checker/work the velvet rope to the VIP lounge upstairs 86-87 The women that worked there and the ones that would come in were off the charts. It was great when they had Neal, Sheila, and Craig running the place with that band.

Jul 17, 2011 | 3:45 pmIn 1986/87 My sister, Sheree' worked in the "VIP Champagne Lounge" on the second floor and I was the front door Hostess/Cashier. The band was the best house band in south Forida and on Friday & Saturday nights the line to get in was wrapped around the building!! There were always 100+ people trying to get in! I have the greatest memories of those days and the people I worked with there. It was a fun & happening place...Thanks for the page!

Feb 22, 2010 | 8:27 amOK. The DJ was good, but here's the scoop on the band in the picture: left to right: the singer with the cowbell and white shoes, Warren; the guitar player, Larry, the keyboard player, Phil; the female singer, Astrid, the drummer, Jeff, the Bass player, Adriane (r.i.p.), the other female singer, Di Di (Diane), the other male singer with the long hair, John. Probably off stage that night at the time was Steve, sax player. The camera men in front could only mean they were filming a show called the Pulse of Miami that night, which was aired nationally (in certain regions), and featured a lot of famous "freestyle" artists. Most of the band members went on to various accomplishments in their own rights.

Dec 04, 2009 | 2:16 amI worked in the Wizz Band in late 87 early 88 playing bass. Seems to me that it started to all go south when there was a shooting there. I can't remember when it happened bus remember hearing about it. I worked with another band there in late part of 88 when it changed to G. Willikers South when Eddie and Ernie took it over. Great times and it was a fun place.

Apr 22, 2008 | 4:14 amI am not sure about that, maybe Ray J, the resident DJ there can tell us!! Either way, that place was very good for a while. North Miami had nothing but "Tittie Bars", this club was always packed. It seemed good the few times I was there. Too bad that the place was knocked down. Remember the shape of the place? It looked like a UFO!!

Mar 15, 2008 | 11:29 amG-WHIZ was located in a part of Miami, actually North Miami, that wasn't very active at night. This club changed that. It was the deejay that made this place happen, Ray Juanes was schooled very well at his craft, and remains a Mobile Deejay to this day, complete with a Lazar Light Show. The music at G-WHIZ was always the latest, and the mixing was superb. Full of young and attractive American women, it was vastly different than other clubs clientèle that was mostly Cuban and Hispanic women. For most guys it was a welcome distraction from the average club. While it lasted, G-WIZ gets a 8 on my scale from 1-10, and that is because of my admiration and respect for Ray Juanes.

Sandee, I must have met you because you worked the door, I was friends with Sheree', My friends and I would always go upstairs to the Champagne Room,I was the G.M. of Faces in the Grove, I ran in Don Johnson from Miami Vice there we had a nice conversation, about the party they had at Faces.I also remember Mike V. the owner a great guy. I remember your sister being a beautiful lady and she was always very nice to me. I hope this message finds you both well. Paul R.
