Club was formally Pagano's, part of a dinner club in late 70s-early 80s. Reopened in basement as the Campus Lounge due to its proximaty to U of Penn and Drexel University. Opened Wednesdays thru Saturday with oddly enough Wednesday and Thursday being the busiest nights. At its peak, over 500 people were getting clicked in with lines outside. Had three bars and a backroom with a decent sized dance floor. Richie,Johnny Jam, Johnny Meehan tended bar with AJ,Ernie and Gordie handling security.
Introduced some underground house with Chicago and NY influence to the area. Playlist included Fast Eddie,Class Action and Jungle Brothers. Played Louie Vega and Jellybean remixes for the Philly crowd that couldn't get upto NYC.
A large number of regulars would head over to the Piccadilly Club in west philly for the after hours party which I also was one of the house DJs.
Popularity weened out after a HUGE raid by State Police and LCB where buses of people were taken away. All the employees left in cuffs that night except for me, the DJ!
Place transformed over to a strip club which still is there today.
