Shanghai Village was one of the earliest DISCOS in South Beach, there years before it was called SOUTH BEACH. A Restaurant that doubled as the Beaches\' best club. A block from the water, next to the Lincoln Road area, meant a great tourist location, but it was the locals that made SHANGHAI VILLAGE special.

All the early dancers went there, the best HUSTLE Dance Contests were held there. There was a Light-Show (something new then), and a decent enough sound system.

The deejays varied often. Resident DEEJAY was the Legendary CARLOS NODAL (R.I.P.). Guests Deejays included Rick Alonso, Bobby Viteretti, Pete Denis, Rob Leslie, Jimmy Wu, Luis Martinez (Rattlesnake) and Jimmy E. Disco.

Shanghai Village specialized in tropical drinks. Those paper umbrellas were everywhere. It had a very strong GAY influence as well, located in the then GAY area of the Beach. Strip bars and XXX movie house were within walking distance. Made for very interesting Saturday Nights as everyone, GAY and not showed up. A regular scene in New York City, but never happened before in Miami Beach. The fights outside were legendary. Anita Bryant once protested outside the Club because it was a GAY NIGHT! DISCO HISTORY. One of the earliest in town. Today, it is a Steak-House or something along those lines.
