You forget the best one !!!
Off the Wall the best Michael jackson's song ever!
Life ain't so bad at all if you live it off the wall!
I forgot 'Off the Wall'! you're right Albin. I love that song too. I'll put it between 'Groove line' and 'Baby be mine' and take 'Love is in control' out of the list. As you can see, the list is reversed (best Rodsong ever is 'Love x love' for me)
New list:
Mystery - Manhattan Transfer
Boogie Nights - Heatwave
Groove Line - Heatwave
Off The Wall - Michael Jackson
Baby Be Mine - Michael Jackson
Spice Of Life - Manhattan Transfer
Rock With You - Michael Jackson
Give Me The Night - George Benson
Stomp - Brothers Johnson
Love X Love - George Benson
lol no problem man but you can add also "the lady in my life" written by Rod for "thriller" and also the monstuous song "thriller" written by rod too!
in fact the whole "thriller" album is genius ! the best album ever ! Who can do better than "thrilller" nowadays?? Nobody i think!
Oh, yeah... 'Thriller' should be in this chart. Not 'The lady in my life' because it is a ballad. I'm gonna rewrite it with 'Thriller' and in the usual order (best first!)
1) Love X Love - George Benson
2) Stomp - Brothers Johnson
3) Give Me The Night - George Benson
4) Rock With You - Michael Jackson
5) Spice Of Life - Manhattan Transfer
6) Baby Be Mine - Michael Jackson
7) Off The Wall - Michael Jackson
8) Thriller - Michael Jackson
9) Groove Line - Heatwave
10) Boogie Nights - Heatwave
Now I can say for sure... These are the best disco Rodsongs ever!
lol yeah but please jsut a last one which is very good taken from the album "off the wall", "burn this disco out" you know it??
So Dj spins the sound....!!!
I like 'Burn this disco out'... but not as much as 'Boogie nights'. There is an arrangement in the last part that bothers me a bit. But I love the bassline and the melody in the chorus.
There's also a song that I forgot, it's called 'Lovelines' that I love too. So if this was a top 12 chart I would add:
11) Lovelines - Karen Carpenter
12) Burn this disco out - Michael Jackson
Hey, you guys seem to be really into it!
What about some other beautiful Temperton-boogie-tracks?
Don't underestimate the following songs:
Herbie Hancock - the album "Lite Me Up" 1982 (6 out of 8 songs written by Rod)
Patti Austin - "Do You Love Me?"; "Love Me To Death", "The Genie" (on the album "Every Home Should Have One" 1981)
Quincy Jones - "The Dude"; "Razzamatazz" (killer-track!!!); "Turn On the Action" and the ever so beautiful song "Somethin' Special" (all on the album "The Dude" 1981)
Rufus & Chaka Khan - "Live In Me"; "Masterjam" (on the album "Masterjam" 1979)
Siedah Garrett - for the lovers of 80's-sounds "Groove Of Midnight"; "Baby's Got It Bad" (on the album "Kiss Of Life" 1988)
Personally I also liked Michael Mc Donald's "Sweet Freedom" (written and produced by Rod). It's the way how he arranges background-vocals that thrills me everytime I hear one of his Songs.
He's truly one of the most talented songwriters out there, hope he's going to write some party-tracks in a while (the last things I heard have been more or less cheasy ballads: check Mica Paris, Tamia and others)
Greets
This is great! It seemed that whenever I loved a song-- no matter who the artist was: Heatwave, Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson-the song was always written by Rod Temperton! I'm so glad to see others recognize what a great force he was in some of the best music ever written.
The greatest non-disco song written by Rod is ' Star of the story ' by heatwave

1. star of the story
2. razzamatazz
3. something special
4. groove line

All this time I thought it was just me that appriecated Rod. Thank you all. Where is he now, Living and doing?
There are many other great "Rodsongs" out there. The album Sign of the times with Bob James is great too. If your a real fan of Rod you should try the album Javaro. All written by the man.
did rod ever do any solo tracks?
Wow!!... And I thought I was the Only TRUE Rod Temperton Fan!!!...You guys shame me...
Okay what about Soundtracks?...Escape to Athena... The Color Purple...Running Scared...Moulin Rouge...
I LOVE Rod Temperton!!!...Even had the pleasure of meeting him when he was with Heatwave!!!
Rod is one of my favorites... Here's my list
Not in any particular order
Heatwave - Boogie Nights
Heatwave - The Groove Line
Heatwave - Central Heating
Heatwave- Ain't No Half Steppin'
Kare Carpenter - If We Try
Karen Carpenter- Lovelines
Quincy Jones - Razzamatazz
Manhattan Transfer - Spice Of Life
Brothers Johnson - Stomp
Donna Summer - Love Is In Control
I love Rod, but he did not write "Stomp." That song was written by Louis Johnson and others. Check on this, I'm sure I'm right
well, my record bag says "stomp" has been written by: louis johnson, george johnson, valerie johnson & rod temperton!
it also has the temperton touch in it , jus listen to the bridge...I'm sure he worked on this song as well
my hat goes off to you,you are clearly the BADDEST PRODUCER that the world has ever heard of PERIOD.You are a true inspiration to myself and others who really understand good music.I love Quincy Jones also, but i think you were really the back bone of those songs you guys did and you didn`t recieve all the praise that you should have.I never heard of you until i started reading the credits off of Michaels album and there was no face with the name. The internet is incredible because ni can find any information that i need.I`m glad i found yours and i will contiue to be inspired by your timeless master peices and try to make the best music that i can.Peace-TINK THOMAS
