Bernie: I sure wish I'd been at THAT DYAO party, and I did go to several. But DJs at these parties VERY rarely played any R & B as I recall. For R & B, we used to go to the Frisco Disco and the 181 Club (both clubs were in one of the worst drug-infested neighborhoods in San Francisco). You frequently had to step around dealers and prostitutes to get into those places and it was hard to get loose inside because you wondered if your car would still be there when you left. We finally resorted to parking in a different area and taking taxicabs to the bad neighborhood.
